I was on a 390 bus around 3 months ago with two nutters.

We're going to the MONKEY they said over and over again.

Not having been there, I have no idea what it's like.

Should be called the Drum & Dog Basket as it's like sitting in one. The place stinks of a wet dog. Wipe your feet on the way out.

As a young Northern Irish man visiting an uncle in Archway London i did feel a bit scared of going out at night. But that all changed when i walked through the doors of Drum and Monkey. This year was the second year running that i have been in this pub i will recomend this pub to everyone nomatter what creed u may r it is a special Irish pub: Friendly, Homely,Warm and Welcoming. This is by far the best pub in london Prices are cheap, service is fantastic and the landlord is one of the nicest person i have ever met in my life. He remembered me from the previous year and straight away set me and my mates a drink up and talked the night away to us and also the other customers.

For sports this but is also unreal i was looking to watch the Gaelic and my mate was looking to watch the Man Utd match and some others were watching the Golf all within a small pub.

As a drinks rep for a distribution company i have seen a lot of pubs and some very good ones and it is unbelievable how good this pub really is.

Cya St. Paddys day lol

Not many can say that they spent some of their honeymoon in the Drum and Monkey. Forty years ago, when Maurice and Bridie ran it. Good atmosphere then, even at a time when paddies were keeping a little on the quiet side because of the troubles.
Called in ten years ago, no customers and a too loud jukebox. Sad!
Do the 'Buffs' still meet upstairs?
With a bit of luck I will visit the old ghosts in the near future and drink a toast to the Kelly family who did us proud.

This is the best pub in Archway, although thats not the greatest accolade that one could bestow!

The barman/gov was pleasant and was keeping everyone happy even though he was the only one behind the bar and it was reasonably busy. There is not a greatest selection on draught with Staropramen, Guinness and some standard lagers.

Plenty of plasma screens make the sport watching a good experience and the other punters happened to be choosing some of my favourite songs from the juke box, which is always a good sign.

I wouldnt make a special trip to drink here, but next time Im in Archway this will be my pub of choice.

Been here twice three times for the comedy nights.
Saw Simon Munnery the last time. Which was brilliant.
For those who are not knowledgeable of British comedies more out-there comic greats this is the equivalent of going for a quiet night out on a Thursday, going down your local and finding that you have been magically transported to a magically magic place and Richard Pryor, Eddie Izzard and Bill Hicks are doing a gig upstairs and it only costs a fiver to get in.
Also saw an Irish woman bare her bum on stage.
P.s as for its "Pubness" it does its job.

The drum's a quality pub, The bar staff are excellent, the drum have a brilliant comedy night on the first thursday of every month which is hilarious.
The GOVNER Niall is a top fella and a man u fan his a diamond but best of all the drum has its vey own manchester united supporters room i rate this pub 10/10
gmanhartley - 6 May 2007 11:40
Went in there last night for the first time to book a party for my mates girlfriend (we only planned to be in there for 5 minutes) but ended up going and watching the comedy night upstairs which was very funny. Niall the Govenor of the pub is a top bloke he brought me and my mate a pint and a shot and we ended up sitting and chatting and drinking with him until half 1 this morning having a top laugh. I now have a severe hangover at work but it was well worth it one of the best nights out in a long time. Im going to make a point of going up there more . Its a little gem in Archways crown.

Terrible design - the barstaff have more room behind the bar than the customers have in the pub.

There's a gambling machine in there, which is labelled "For Amusement Only." Gee, nothing more amusing than winning a gambling game and receiving no money for it.

Besides that, it's a reasonable pub. No TV when I was last there, on a Saturday night to catch the football. Felt a bit like walking into somebodies living room. Service was good, the barman was friendly enough.

Archwaster - 29 Jan 2007 18:57

drumandmonkeyfan - 23 Jan 2007 11:24

musicking_ddd - 14 Apr 2006 12:41
Almost got mugged outside sitting on the benches. From what I found, not a nice atmosphere. Rather grim.
Birdoman - 18 Feb 2006 02:24
A cracking pub with a genial landlord in the traditional mould, drinks from 2.50. Sure to always be warmly welcomed whether established local or first time customer. New late license also makes this a must for late reveller.
anonymous - 19 Dec 2005 13:42
this pub is on its way out, weekend in there are so dead, its not like it was the magic has gone... pop in 2 week`s ....will be some time befor i go back .... steve
anonymous - 12 Jul 2005 19:42
Very expensive at 2.65 a pint
Hamhead - 16 May 2005 16:42
I used to drink here in the late 90s when i was a bus driver from the garage across the road in pemberton gdns. Entertaining pub full of friendly locals who like to have a sing along when the karaoke is on. The pub is on Junction Road, Archway, which is a bit of a rough area but you'll always feel safe and welcome here. It's a shame that when the gentrification spreads to this area from Kentish town, this pub might not last for too long and be replaced by a chain pub. So get down there now before "The Drum" dissapears forever.
P.S, myself and all bus drivers only drink after finishing our shifts..
ganger - 11 Mar 2005 09:44
been going to the drum and money on and off for 5rys now and its one great pub, the manager niall is one allround funny and good man, hat`s off to him, the football can be good fun, whene the gooners and man u are playing, great weekend`s starts off some weeks with a karaoke not to bad,get some good singers in there all 9 of them, all good fun... just started a live mic night on the fridays to, that was very good looking forwould to more of them, dont no if that was a one off?.. then on the saturday night is a disco night, some great music played and on a good night that pub can buzz me and the wife love it,very good dj.. and on the sunday night was a jazz night, not to bad but i think after the friday and a saturday night`s sunday not got much pepol left to party ,,,,all in all we love this pub keep up the great work niall.. steve+pat
musicking_ddd - 8 Mar 2005 20:19
A little gem of a pub, good sevice and all round v.friendly. Landlord Niall is good for laugh, (even if he supports ManU). If you fancy a quite pint on occasion, then this is the place to go. Well worth dropping into for a drink if u r passing, probable end up there all night!!!
wmon - 24 Feb 2005 13:26
The drum is a fantastic pub. The dj on a friday night is brilliant. i have been going there now for 15 years well since i was a kid and i wouldn't change one thing about the pub.
drumandmonkeyfan - 21 Feb 2005 12:26
Not a bad boozer considering where it is. If you wany a quiet pint during the week and watch the football in peace then go here.Prices are reasonable and the bar staff friendly.
gerry - 26 Oct 2004 16:46
great pub, brilliant dj,i have so much fun with my friends 2,you just have 2 go and see 4 yourself.dont like the hangovers though, thanks niall.x
beverley - 8 Apr 2004 17:07
The "Drum", is a fine all round, good pub. In the week a good family pub, with a large plasma screen for the best football matches. The manager has great taste in football, for despite being on the doorstep of the Arsenal, with many of his punters being"Gooners",he is loyal to Man Utd.The real champs of British football. At the week-ends,there is one of the best pub discos in town. Though not a large pub,the week-end disco sees much dancing. All in all a good natured pub, good for a laugh, with no risk of trouble . Do yourself a favour, go down "The Drum", chill to the good music with a resonably priced pint or three!!
Mike - 25 Mar 2004 19:25
me and my wife pop in one night 6 weeks ago, it was a very odd pub not like any pub we have ever been in,we loved it and we will be going back. fab night

danny - 25 Mar 2004 00:22
Just keeps getting better! Music, lots of football, nice people, Niall- possibly the greatest landlord in London, and not a single new-wave mullet or retro American baseball cap to be seen!
anyonebutmanu - 12 Mar 2004 09:36
this pub is so much fun wow!
dave - 11 Mar 2004 23:43
I spent 5 months in london in 2003, and the Drum was the best part. Good folks, great Guinness, and more Irish jokes than I can remember. I just wish there was a Drum & Monkey in the States.
Johnny America - 22 Feb 2004 23:27
i dont think i cant say anything bad about the drum and monkey, the weekends there are just the best and the music will will have you right on the floor,i love the 70s spot very good just takes me back ,the beer is very good, you just have to try out the atmosphere there on a saturday night you will go back
tony - 19 Feb 2004 20:46
it a great pub love the sat nights 60s 70s 80s wow great fun just love it
jean tupper - 19 Feb 2004 01:30
I won't beat about the bush, I was absolutely terrified when I walked into this place. It looks exactly how a pub should look, threatening and gloomy. However, decent beer, decent prices, good bar staff and not even a shred of false pretence means that this pub just keeps getting better. It's how pubs should be.
Slipperduke - 11 Feb 2004 15:57
Good pub for meeting up with friends and watching the football. friendly bar staff and actually has a character of its own, rather than being part of a soulless chain!
anyonebutmanu - 13 Jan 2004 15:16
great! good friendly atmosphere
anonymous - 15 Jun 2003 10:02
provides beer and a seat, unlike gastro 'pub' opposite. certainly has character.
mickey - 8 Apr 2003 15:40
You can't knock it. No way. Last years local and lock in pub for thirsty stoodents just over the road. Tremendous
Toby - 27 Jan 2003 23:53
its alive an well, i'll be there tonight
monkey boy - 23 Oct 2002 16:51
it was involved in a gas explosion once. It really does have an interesting history, an ark.
anonymous - 20 Oct 2002 02:01
Don't know where that rumour started, but I was in there last night!
Alison McDougall - 11 Jul 2002 14:48
Apparently this has been pulled down and now no longer exists as the Drum and Monkey (unconfirmed)
Francis - 13 May 2002 09:50
