Clearly now has better management.Same price for two roasts and two drinks as the White Swan but 100% better food and service
Very presentable pub in decor and cleanliness and the two bar staff despite being very busy were polite and attentive
Other pubs in the area could follow this pubs example

In much need of good management.

Good beer and friendly service, but let down by some aggressive locals...

Ii is in the middle of the town but has a rather austere interior - bare floorboards etc. The lounge is long and wide but the seating is very basic - hard wooden seats. They had 3 real ales on the bar and the food is rather expensive for a scruffy pub. However the roast beef on Sunday was excellent value at £6.95.

Absolutely awful pub full of benefit bandits and alkies. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

TSW, thee Roger Brown famous for blocking pub loos. Thin old man with beard and hair everywhere.

swannyman - 6 Jun 2012 08:19
swannyman what Roger Brown are you talking about?
TSW - 28 Dec 2011 22:36
God, sounds awful, maybe Roger Brown had just visited the loo.

was in here briefly last week, we were considering eating here as all the other pubs were rammed and this one was quiet, should have known better, the last review said they clean the pipes on a Wednesday, well I can only assume it's the last Wednesday in April because my pint of Hobgoblin was awful, my wifes visit to the loo left her heaving so we left rather quickly, this was easily the worst pub we visited in the area, and probably why this pub was so empty while all the others were heaving

First time we have been in this pub. As we went in the bar was full of pints of all kinds. We asked for one of the real ales, and was told to take one off the bar, they are all free said the bar person! Said it was pipe cleaning day, which it was. All the beers were very good and the locals were chatty and friendly. Seems like a decent place, and busy during the week. food looked very good and reasonably priced, toilets clean seating ok, no beer garden but so what. A clean and tidy place and not too posh. Well worth a visit, enjoy the friendly atmosphere. Recommended. Town centre location. Pipe cleaning on wednesday.

It will do, food's OK. Pity there's no outside, because then we get the smokers congregating outside the main front door as is the norm now for many pubs.

Visited this pub tonight. Despite reading reviews on here had a meal which was very nice. Large portions, freshly cooked and hot. Pub was busier than most for s Friday night.

Opened out shambling sort of place, very quiet when we visited, where everywhere else was busy. Just a rather dull Ringwood Bitter on, I know, thats how its meant to be!. I didn't really take to the place, it was as though no one wanted to be in there. Hard to describe really. Seems to serve a big plateful of food though, judging by the one other occupied table.

Good pub with good atmosphere.
Friendly staff with a good sense of humour.
Well kept pint of Jurassic.

Visited the pub after an absence of many years. It's incredible what a change of management can do. The pub is superb with good beer. Keep up the good work.

Excellent news about the change of management. Let's hope the place has improved.

The management of this pub has now changed (thankfully!) so it can only improve.
Too early to say what the pub will develop into though.

I visit Swanage about half-a-dozen times a year and used to go into the Anchor and found it a great pub which served good beer. However, I wouldn't go into the pub now due to the management.

Reminded me of Fawlty Towers - only not funny.

Great looking pub as alot of them are here in the High St. Among draughts was 'Titanic' bitter which pulled well. Enjoyed the lunch time menu.
