The Cask Marque sign on the door made me enter this place last Saturday early
afternoon. Six others are present. Wooden furniture with a wooden and stone floor.
Piped music is playing and the TV is switched off.
Very disapointing ale selection of TT Landlord and Sharps Doom Bar and Sharps
Atlantic which I tried and found to be pretty poor @ £3.60 a pint.

By far the best gastro pub for miles, well kept ales, good food and service thats second to none. We went here on the recomendation of a freind for their grill night and was not dissapointed. Steaks were cooked, seasoned and presented perfectly and to top it all off our wine was free as we had their grill deal. Thank you for such a lovely evening and see you again soon for those yummy chips.

Excellent real ale with 3 choices, 2 being local from saffron brewery and tring. I had a nice sausage and mash to go with it and some excellent onion gravy. Apparently the sausage are made in the butchers behind the pub, doesnt get more local than that. 3.20 a pint is good and 9 for the sausages. I will be returning again very soon.

The Vine was reviewed by Bucking Fastard in 2009. Two years have passed until my not so glowing report.
Now we have two reviews a month later praising it to the hilt and both by new BITE members.
Both are familiar with the pub - so why have they not reviewed it until now?
Let's see if they become regular reviewers.

I love this pub, lived in ware for years and is by far the best here. The food is clearly fresh and some well kept ales from local brewries. Im very partial to the grill night they have on wednesdays with a free bottle of wine so you cant go wrong there. It does get busy at times so would probably need to book in advance but is well worthit once you try there chips. Yummy

I visited the Vine on Monday evening to catch up with some friends and was pleasantly surprised by the new look. We sat and chatted over a few bottles of wine and was totally shocked when we received the bill 25.42 for 3 bottles of wine, they had clearly forgotten to charge us correctly, but was informed when we paid the bill that Monday's are half price wine night. Happy Monday's!!!!!!

It has been nearly forty years since my one and only visit to this pub. I could not remember why I had left it so long to return.
After ordering a vodka and tonic, a pint of beer, one small pepsi and two packets of crisps I handed the barman a tenner, but was told it comes to 13.50. Picking myself off the floor I remembered why I had not been in for a while.
I drank my pint quicker than I could earn it. We did not stop for another.
I'll call again in the year 2050!!

I can now confirm that the food is god awful after another visit.Unedible tuna and a solid mass of tastless risotto ,avoid The Vine if you care about food quality.Such a shame compared with past experiences.

I've been in the Vine on many occasions in the past and have enjoyed the food and the beer but I am very sad to say that standards have slipped alarmingly.Last Sunday there were insufficient waiting staff, the food was indifferent and sauces had been bulked up with flour rather than the correct ingedients. There are normally 2 real ales available, usually Abbott and a microbrewery ale. However my Champflower ale by Cottage Brewing was cloudy and none too crisp probably as they werent shifting it in any quantity.Very much a foodie pub but you can just go in for a few drinks,I can only hope this was a one off slip in standards and not a permanent degredation.

Recently had a wonderful meal with a couple of pals in this place. Had a wonderful steak and chips with some lovely wine. Will definitely be returning to The Vine!

Slightly trendy, but nevertheless welcoming pub. Friendly, efficient staff, good range of beers, with changing guests; food very good, although priced accordingly.
