100% Better.
This pub has been under new management now for just under a year and the transformation is remarkable. The old reviews are no longer relevant as basically everything has changed. The previous conveyer belt of temporary managers has tarnished the reputation of this once great pub. As a regular, I am delighted to say the good times are back. The new manager seems to be someone who cares about the pub and goes the extra mile to give the customers what they want. This includes bringing in his own staff who are a million miles better than the lazy excuses we have had in the past. The kitchen I understand has had a refurb along with most of the pub, inside and out. The quality of the food is excellent and the Sunday roast was described by my mother in law as even better than her own! If you know my mother in law (and I wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy) then you will know that that is quite a statement! There is a greater selection of beers now than ever before and this clearly meets with the approval of the customers, judging by the visible increase of people coming into the pub.
I have seen many times over the last couple of years people walking in to the pub, looking around at the clientele, and walking straight out again. This doesnt seem to happen now as there is a distinct change to the amount of women and familys coming in.
The trouble with reading a review is some people may have preconceived ideas about a place judged on their own experience or what people have told them. What I would say is don't take my word for it about this pub or anyone elses word, pay the pub a visit yourself and see what you think. Whilst nowhere is perfect as we all have different tastes, I would fail to see how anyone who has been into this pub during the dark days of the temporary mangers, could fail to see the marked improvement.
The pool tables have gone, along with the kids who used to play on them making this a much friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Big screen TVs with live football and live music on Saturday nights make this pub even more appealing.
Clearly I am a little biased as I have been coming into this pub for a number of years but it is simply great to see the transformation from where it was to where it is now.
Well done to all concerned, you hard work is appreciated. Keep it up.

New to the area and thought we'd give this pub a go on Sunday as we wanted to catch the live football.

Sadly this was our first and definitely last visit.

Basically the beer was awful. Guinness was tasteless and the Fosters was nothing more than coloured water. Also tried the Amstel as an alternative to the Fosters but found this even worse. It's a shame because this pub is the closest to us and inside it's reasonably clean with a good standard of interior. When I complained to a barmaid, she looked at me like in stange fashion and said that no-one else had complained. Well I've been drinking pints for over twenty years and would fancy that by now I could judge a good pint from a bad one.

If you like 'football beer' (i.e. the watery substance they sell in pubs near stadiums on match days) at three quid a chuck , then this is the place for you. Alternatively I'd suggest you stick to bottled beers.

Fortunately we found a far tastier and cheaper pint just ten minutes walk up the road with much friendlier bar staff.

Not impressed with this pub at all , customers were very clicky and staff could just about ask us what we wanted !

The old hall tavern is under new management!!

Great homemade food, fantastic steak night on a wednesday!

Saturdays they have a mixture of singers and bands, all very talented.

In general a lovely spacious pub which serves good beer and spirits at reasonable prices.

Crap pub, crap clientele (several regulars look like a Chaz 'n' Dave appreciation society, the rest being 20-something Chingfordite chav scum)who are more likely to triple crown themselves than make you feel welcome. Also crap decor and food a la Lidl microwaveable donner kebabs. The beer is little more than average. Overall it's pretty crap.
