Lively venue, decent pint of Bombardier, friendly staff. Live music on (seems to be scheduled for Fri and Sat nights). Worthwhile visit. 6/10

A good sized, U-shape pub prominently situated on the crossroads opposite St. Georges Park. The right had bar had a raised area that seems to get a lot of use by bands, and there was a ska/punk band setting up on a recent Saturday night visit. Quite a few TV screens about the place, with a plasma in the main bar, a projector off to the right behind the band area and a couple of LCDs up in the left hand bar. Fortunately these were all off on our visit. The walls are covered in pictures and drawings, and theres a dartboard.

Beers on tap were just Gem and Bombadier. A better choice of ciders with Thatchers Gold, Blackthorn and Cheddar Valley (plus Gaymers Pear, if you count that as a cider).

As I lived about 30 seconds down the road, I know I am not mistaken. I would say, however, that I had not visted the pub for about 3-4 months when I wrote my review, so the karaoke/DJ entertainment may have ceased by then. Still sticking to my guns about the age range though, although again this could have changed over the more recent months.

Think Fran may have mistaken this for the pub down the road as The Fire Engine does not have discos or karaoke. Also would like to say that there are quite a few younger than 40 aged customers and they do not get leared at. In actual fact the average age is around 30-35 but any age is welcomed by staff and owners alike.

Dislike. Anyone under 40 is leared at (although bar staff are always friendly). Have dj and karaoke nights, but otherwise dedicated to locals. Not the most welcoming place.

quite dear! the landlord has done loads to this pub though, the locals are very well looked after, fair play to him

Friendly locals, nice Bombardier and well poured, tasty Guinness. No feelings of being the "outsider" there and regulars appeared to be happy discussing the sport, playing bar games or chatting to anyone else. Very Bristolian pub with lots of local Redfield pictures and photos. Rumour has it that the local BNP meets there but no sign when I was drinking there. The seating could be improved but all in all a pleasant boozer.

Returned recently and had a pint if Gem in excellent condition and the place seemed to have calmed down a bit riff raff wise. Rejoice!

Been in the area a while and have now found this pub to be my local, always a freindly atmosphere, bar staff really helpfull, food is amazing all homecooked and made fresh to order, landlord/lady always about to help or answer and questions asked.

Recently moved to the area and in desperately hoping to find a decent local, gave this place a go. Intimidating mixture of loud sweary youngsters and other unsavouries. Bar staff unfriendly, beer (Bombardier) was average, pub plasticky and fake. A faintly depressing place, all in all. After this and the Pied Horse, considering a move back to Cotham

Not been in this pub for about 4 years in spite of its landmark position. Its had a "refurb" in that period-with crappy poems on the ceiling and every half comfortable seat ripped out and replaced by 4 stools around the table. Darts were showing on a big screen(2 Bristolians were playing and none of the natives were watching!) I was eyed suspiciously by staff and punters(I've become immune...). Pride and Gem(range was more adventurous a few yrs ago) were the ale,the Gem was passable. Kid(non shrieking model thank goodness) was going around the pub on a mini scooter, barwoman was munching crisps behind the bar. A lesser pub in the intervening years and no inclination to return.
