please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Ember Inns pub near the station in Walton. On a day where I struggled to find any real cider, this did at least have a mulled cider - Orchard Pig Juggler. The bar manager insisted on putting it in the microwaved. It was a cold night. So I didn't moan too much. Ales were Sharp's Doom Bar, Fuller's London Pride, Shepherd Neame No. 18 Yard Rudolph's Reward, Reunion Opening Gambit, Hogs Back TEA, Timothy Taylor Landlord & Black Sheep Ember Pale Ale. Plenty of people were dining and I recall a live Arsenal match on the televisions. One of the better pubs on this night.

Large pub and restaurant right opposite Walton on Thames station. I have been here both of the times I have been to watch a football match at Walton & Hersham FC.

I've never eaten here so I cannot comment on the food, but the beer selection was fine.

Both visits there was 3 good ales on draught, on my last visit I had 2 very good pints of St Peter's, Mild.

Good clean interior, outside seating area to the front as you enter and the dining area is to the rear of the pub.

The Ashley Park has just started a Monday Night Ale Club.
Visited the first night-several real ales including excellent Doom Bar,London Pride and Timothy Taylors all at 2.50 a pint-I can easily pay 3.50 for the same brew not very far away from Walton-well done shley Park-keep up the good eork!

Civilised place to eat and drink. No children under 14 allowed, so good adult atmosphere. Excellent selection of cask ales and lagers. Food is good quality and good value. Staff friendly.
Facilities: Fruit Machines: 3. Quiz machine. No jukebox - background music. Partly air conditioned. 3 gas log effect fires. Linked to a Travelodge.
jim255 - 6 Mar 2011 12:50
Good point: Excellent wide choice of ales and lagers. Wine is well priced too atonly 8-94 a bottle ! Food is good with excellent usual Ember Inns menu. Be aware though - no kids allowed and you cannot book a table. So can be a matter of luck of you get table for large parties. ( esp. Friday nghts ! )

Bad points - Have had cold food served up but no fuss or problem retuning it. Too brightly lit makes it seem slightly sterile. Agree with other reviews which say lights should be dimmer.

Overall - would give 8 / 10 marks.

Nice boozer with nice beer, especially the Pride. Quiz night on Sunday gets really busy and Friday nights tend to get fairly busy as well. Otherwise it's quiet and a nice place to go and read the paper or just have a pint alone with your thoughts of an afternoon.

Atmosphere is a bit dull but this is because it is run by a national chain and the interior is a bit sterile. Aside from this it is always busy with a good flow of commuters and passing trade heading to/from the station. 21+ policy and the affluent housing nearby means it is chve free and you won't get stared at if you walk in with suit and tie etc. Very cheap and reaonable quality food. Lots of real ale and always well kept - no fuss exhange policy - and decent staff.

Is a bit boring but close to where I live so cannot complain.

Have to agree with previous posting - this pub lacks "something". Beer range is usually excellent though and the staff are friendly enough.

Eaten here a few times and the food is fine if not spectacular

Not a bad place all in all

I'm not sure what the anon on 21 August 2007 is talking about. I've drunk in here many times and never had a problem with change or measures.

There is something a bit soulless about this pub. I don't know what particular, since the staff are cheerful enough. It's possibly because its a bit too light and airy; somewhere to go for a coffee or a sandwich as much as a drink. I like it but couldn't love it.
Mobey - 11 Mar 2008 15:44
Dull & boring inside & out, but a real beer surprise. Definitely a good way to kill a few minutes before the train.
Wilson_MacDonald - 16 Feb 2008 22:32
watch your change, one or two of the staff are well doddgy don't ask for a double they don't let the optic refill, ask for a single then say make that a double that way the optic has had time to refill

Hotel bar-cum-pub, plenty of space with modern light and airy decor. Three well-kept ales including Young's and London Pride. Not really my type of pub but worth a pitstop if you're waiting for a train from Walton-on-Themes station which is directly across the road.

Love this place. Stunning people and beautiful admosphere.

Very pleasant. Nice food, friendly and attentive staff, especially the american lady, who;s name escapes me. Not sure if she even works there any more. Nice little regular if you fancy a swift one before going home.
j_watts - 20 Apr 2006 12:52
The lime with whisky is quite annoying, but at least it gives you something to throw at Ken if he annoys you.

Aint seen the place for a few months, hoping the recent refurb is as good as it looked on the plans. Should hopefully be showing my face sometime soon, hopefully all the same eccentric regulars will be there... I'm sick of them all dying on us.

The best place I know for an impromptu A-ha karaoke session. Great staff, I am not going to comment on the food as I am a vampire, and subsequently have not the need for such things.

A few points to note though :-

1. Ember Inns appear to think that the general public are all suffering from vitamin deficiency. I have not noticed an outbreak of skirvy in the area since the old king died, so there is no real need to insist on putting lime in EVERYTHING. Lime with whiskey? any takers?

2. What happened to the hairy bloke with the cough?

3. Can they do away with the "wipeout" round in the quiz as I am a bit Joey at it.

4. Why do I always end up with tab 10?

5. The 2nd space on the first row on the left in the car park is reserved for my Mondeo. Can people please refrain from parking there. Thanks.

PS - "Well young Rob, when I owned the Jazz shop in Walton, Errrrrk!, errrr" etc.
please_now_talk_to_me - 23 Feb 2006 11:26
I love this place. It's chock full with legendary locals (too many to list here):

Brian (eerrrrkkk! When I had the jazz shop.....)
Dave & Sam (a-ha !)
Terry (Keep trying with all those young girls!)
Barry and Houda (2 Stella's, then 2 more, then 2 more, then 1 and a half, ad infinitum)

Guess who?? !! :)
Rob_19 - 3 Feb 2006 14:59
I'd complain to Mitchell & Butlers (Ember Inns) about that if I were you.
graley - 1 Aug 2005 14:07
The building, and beer and a majority of the staff was top notch.

However if you are under the age of 25 avoid the pub or the landlord specifically like the plague.

I went in with three old friends all of us between 20-25 and went to the bar. We were all ided which is acceptable, I understand the penalties involved to the servers these days. However it was the manager who on learning we were of age and were going to be drinking in his pub started to be very rude...

Halfway through pouring our round he told (not asked) one of my friends to remove his hat, my friend was in the process of getting the money out of his wallet to pay for the drinks and did not acknowledge the manager. As a result within two seconds of the first request, the manager was leaning over the bar poking my friends cap off WITH HIS PEN. At that point we told him that he could have easily blinded this guy

We drank up and left. If you don't like under 25's let us know before we enter and pay for drinks while avoiding assault.....

Clean, modern but characterless pub. Packed (no spare seats) on quiz nights but plenty of room other nights. 3 real ales guaranteed.
Trev - 1 Jul 2005 12:55
A friendly pub with friendly staff, you even get a little oriental man coming in and selling cheap dvd's
anonymous - 13 May 2005 17:05
One of the barmen seems to be under the impression i am related to him. He continually calls me brother and shakes my hand whenever i see him.
Its good to see a security conscious management team running this place. All the ornaments around the pub have been glued to their spot. Walton is rife with decoration theft, it seems they have found the only successful way to deal with it.
shussett - 12 May 2005 09:54
couple of nice bits of totty behind the bar.
anonymous - 29 Mar 2005 16:29
Had my wedding reception there many years ago, the refurb has ruined the place.
anonymous - 2 Mar 2005 22:22
Lovely, went as a couple and found it to be very relaxing. The beer was excellent and the food was good.
anonymous - 25 Feb 2005 13:18
Fun quiz night on a Sunday night, where the monies raised are given to local charity. Food is good and they will alter items from the set menu upon request. Staff are friendly and there seem to be lots of events being planned on the run up to Xmas.
Miss_D - 14 Dec 2004 16:50
Understaffed at moment. Can wait some time to be served and bar staff are not as friendly as they could be.
City - 1 Oct 2004 17:11
Typical chain pub, although decor is well above average.
For: Non-smoking area, very good beer, pretty good food.
Against: No garden, music far too loud at times.
Phil - 20 Aug 2004 15:10
Lacks real atmosphere? I don't think this place has a damn clue what that might be. You can eat well granted, but that's hardly good reason to go. I'd suggest another Walton pub instead, but they're all just as bad, except the Swan by the river.
Scotty boy - 8 Jul 2004 09:15
The food is great, but unfortunately this place lacks real atmosphere and warmth. They have tried so hard with the upmarket decor that it looks too artificial & lifeless.
Dawn - 1 Jun 2004 11:42
I think that this pub is amazing! Especially the managaress, Tracey, who is always chirpy! All the staff are great, the rooms are in excellent condition and the food is delicious!! I rate it 11/10!!

TheAshley Park is a great place to go and eat out although it was a bit expensive it was value for money, Congratulations to thehead chef Alex Piggott. Top quality bar service as well ecspecially Gemma Reed
Stevedn Neal - [email protected] - 4 Feb 2004 11:45
Great place. Comfortably decorated, good choice of beer (certainly not the cheapest in the area, but anywhere else is a step downmarket). The food is always up to scratch and very reasonably priced for what you get. The staff are always polite, efficient, warm and welcoming. An excellent bar for a quick drink or a relaxing night out.
Andrew - 18 Jan 2004 00:21
I have visited this pub a few times now, with mixed feelings. Last time (9 Jan 04) was good. When the food was being served, my friend asked for a bowl of chips. This was brought out immediately, with no red tape. Also, the staff were happy to discuss the quality if the food.
Only one previous problem, one day there was NO ALE available at all, and I ONLY drink ale!

yendisniaps - 11 Jan 2004 17:50
I enjoyed my meal at the ashley park. The service was great and the bar staff were very efficent
Bob Maccado - 15 Oct 2003 11:24
Expensive - but nonetheless - the service is excellent - and the beers are mainly well-kept. Toilets are in good condition. Real log fires during the colder months. The is also a plethora of seating choice.
If you're going there for an evening for a bite to eat and a few drinks, don't expect much change out of 40 - but do expect a hassle free, comfortable, good beered, well serviced evening.
Rob - 12 Sep 2003 08:19
OK pub for a quick pint if you are waiting for a train. Its chain pub clean and all very nice but a bit bland.
anonymous - 7 Aug 2003 16:44
Like the pub as somewhere to sit and drink (it's my local) but there is a poor choice of food for vegetarians. Basically - if you're veggie you probably won't be able to find anything to eat (there's not even a veggie jacket potato filling!)
Kim - 31 Jul 2003 13:14
my partner and I have eaten and drank in here at different times of the day and the food is exellent and contrary to Angus ther was now smell of stale smoke but it was brightlt lit but that is the concept and design
sandra - 9 Jul 2003 00:45

Average pub. The Guinness was good and the staff were friendly and polite. Only gripes would be that it smelt of stale smoke and was too brightly lit.
Angus - 11 Apr 2003 09:04
Pub come Restaurant. Part of six continents embe inns chain. Food is fine, beer is bass. Lacks Character though, as do all chain pubs.
