user reviews of the Earth and Stars, Brighton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A low key and central option, imaginatively chosen beer choices and an interesting food menu elevate this well above average - if it were in Milton Keynes, it would be a revelatory experience but in Brighton, it's probably an also-ran when it comes to the best places to grab a beer.

It's expensive if you are just drinking (even for Brighton) but the Hepworth Prospect was very nice. Dark Star Revelation also available. Rustic wooden furniture and floors. The food looked like a step up from ordinary pub grub but we did not try it.

The Earth and Stars is an impressive outfit.

We went after the Brighton Half Marathon and were impressed by how cosy the interior was, very welcome after the exertions of the morning.

The food was, by pub standards, top notch, and for once I didn't resent paying for a roast. Also impressed by the staff who were affable but on the ball. The waitress said she had spent the previous night worrying about how busy the day would be, I think that's a good sign.

There also seemed to be a reasonable selection of beers although i didn;t get stuck in due to being completely knackered...but all in all a real example of how great a good pub can be.

The earth and stars seems to have changed direction somewhat, and I like it. I haven't heard anything negative said about it for months now. The menu has had an overhaul and has some great choices on it, for lunch and dinner I believe.

I have been out of Brighton for a while and just visited the Earth and Stars again, for the first time in a while. Oh my god! It's so much better... it's always been a lovely little pub but some factors were questionable. But now, I couldn't recommend it more. The selection of drinks is great, the staff are lovely and friendly, the place feels welcoming and homely, and the food, THE FOOD! It is open for lunch and dinner every day, with an exquisite new menu, and Sunday Roasts (which I must say are ridiculously nice). I've eaten here three times in the last fortnight :-) gorgeous.

Was on a bit of a crawl a couple of weeks ago and we popped into this pub. The barman was a friendly character - good bit of banter and suggested an alternative cider shandy for my friend which hit the spot!
The pint of Hepworths that I had was very nice and the pub had a good atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Finally have a pub near me that has hepworth blonde on tap if nothing else thats a good enough reason to drink here. Very strange smoking area completly walled in and for some reason you can take your drink out with you, very off

The wooden seats make it a not very comfortable-feeling pub. Despite its reputation for good organic food, the menu is a bit disappointing.

Hepworth's Prospect is a regular with a guest beer usually from a Sussex brewery such as Dark Star. Last night it was another Hepworth's beer Dark Horse which was excellent, if a tad pricey at 3.10 for a 3.8% beer. The cider is rather on the expensive side too. That said the beer was in very good condition and there are plenty of dearer pubs around in Brighton.

Not bad but the chubby bearded bloke behind the bar was abit of a misery guts.

Recently popped in for the first time in years, don't know why I've been avoiding it! Good beer, beautiful staff, what more can you want?

good produce, but sadly extremely small portions to the extent value goes out the window. The staff don't seem to know/care what they're doing, but nice decor.

For sunday roast, get there B4 1pm, as it does get busy, we got there after and had to wait a long time, and the staff seemed a bit confused to what food went where, so food was left on the bar getting cold while they worked it out! They need to sort this out, as our food came slightly cold, and didn't feel like complaining, as didn't want to wait any longer!
But it was good food, and the pub has a nice feel to it, and as mentioned, it's very eco friendly...

Went on a friday night as well, and it was packed, but still good. recommended - 7/10.

We went to the Earth and Stars last Saturday. What a great pub - really relaxed, very friendly staff and amazing food. Highly recommend.

New chef has made this one of the best pubs for food in Brighton. The pizzas are to die for - organic wholewheat bases, and I challenge anyone to find a better Sunday roast in Sussex - the lamb was cooked overnight for 16 hours they said! My girlfriend's organic vegbox pie was brilliant. Sorry to rave - but I'm so sick of disappointing pub fod in Brighton these guys deserve support. really eco friendly too.

I really like this pub, nice environment, friendly staff and good selection of organic drinks. The fly infestation in the toilet really lets it down. Lets hope they sort it quickly and I'll be back in there very soon.

I'm 33 and I'd say its perfect for my age. Friendly staff, good food, eco-conscious.

Generally a good bar, nice to see English wine on the wine list & good range of organic wines. Could do to improve it's ales though, only stocks Bombardier & Youngs, neither particularly well kept.

Good pub but I did feel a bit old in this one. OK for people about 30 years younger than me but the beer was nice if a little pricey.

Wonderful eco-themed bar with real ale, organic wine and a varied, healthy menu. Definitely worth hunting this place down.
