Visited here one Saturday afternoon, it''s only a short walk from the city centre near the Lace Market tram stop . It''s a restored church with fabulous décor set over two floors with a combination of open plan seating and table booths as well. They had two ales on which were Boondoggle and Blue Monkey Brewery BG Tips, of which I had the latter. I also had the duck leg to eat which was quite nicely prepared.

Overall, it was an enjoyable visit as the service was reasonably good and the staff friendly. It was nice to find a spare table in a bar/pub in Nottingham on a Saturday afternoon on a Forest match day. It''s worth going just for the impressive interior.

lovely decor but Ridiculously over priced even for a P+P

This is not a boozer, its a bar, a disgrace turning such a lovely old building into a Pitcher & Piano. They should feel ashamed of themselves. 0/10.

lovely building. a very party fuelled atmosphere on a weekend as opposed to 'smooth, cool, moody' (etc etc). food could be better, but what the hell - it's not about the food midnight on a saturday!! i like this bar, yes yes!

its amazing....

what a beautiful building, although it seems a bit offensive turning a holy place into a bar lol. is very nice though, a nice bar :D

This place has to be seen....Visited this place quite a few times-and it still feels weird to be sat on an altar drinking a pint...victorian church, lots of light, plenty of stained glass in (Lincoln?)green.Excellent woirk by the refurb team
EdgarBriggsMI5 - 26 Feb 2007 23:10
Impressive building and they are happy to accommodate decent sized parties given notice which is good.
Toilets are a bit of a mission though and the crowd you get in there can be pretentious.

This is the best pub I have been in, in my life.

What a great use for a former disused church. They have not distoried the inside by removing stained windows. The upstair sitting area has been designed so it look as if they were built when the church was built.

An brilliant pub.

A must.

Too poncey by far. Full of stuck up tw#ts!
BoozeBear - 6 Oct 2006 23:15
I was there on said night with Brucie & can vouch for:
1) The delightful & classy conversion
2) His cringeworthy loutish behaviour
3) The sweet charm of the doorstaff
4) The Marston's Pedigree (not cask)
5) The gauntlet that is answering a call of nature

Suggest ordering a pitcher & sitting outside on a summer evening with the church all lit up. Like throwing a party while the vicar's on holiday.
young_camra_collectiv - 21 Aug 2006 23:42
Been to the pitcher and piano a couple of times, and i adore the place. Both visits have gone on for far longer than they should have done, and you'll be glad to hear that the management don't stand for any nonense as i almost got thrown out on a saturday night as we were being to loud, which we were.

Fantastic conversion from an old church into a drinking establishment, cocktails are lethal and delicious, can't comment on the beer unfortunately, can't remember, but the atmosphere was terrific, the staff friendly, even the guy trying to throw us out and loads of room, though the toilets on the very top of the second floor can sometimes be an issue.

This is a lovely pub/bar in an area of extreme pretension and expense! A welcome relief. As its a converted church the area inside is huge and it has a big outside area to the front of the building, therefore accept on a saturday night its usually not too crowded. They having a cracking wine list and the beers are well kept. The food is good if a little faffy.

No not just you mate... I got distinct reminders of a church when I went to this pub. Strange
Simon28 - 3 Apr 2006 13:12
This pub somehow reminds me of a church. Must just be me. Oh well.

Can't fault it- not too expensive - good music - and has some classy christmas decorations up this time of year

A beautiful conversion of a church, keeping the stained glass windows and awe inspiring architecture but replacing the pews with seating areas. I tend to go during the week as on the weekend it can become packed. The place is beautiful and the height ceilings give it a sense of privacy with live bands in the week and a spectacular cocktail list the price of drinks is acceptable (cheaper then some dives in Nottingham Tantra and coco lounge being just two.)

My boyfriend and I had many apritifs and night caps here and it's always made the evening sparkle - if your girlfriend has never been before take her here mid week for drinks, her face alone will be worth paying slightly over the odds!

Didn't seem to have a problem with the door men and i was in a stag night party of about 20. Amazing venue for a pub and it has been pretty well done, but at the end of the day it is STILL a Pitcher and Piano.
mike2004 - 2 Sep 2005 21:14
would have been nice to get in the door it looked fine but doormen would not listen to reason and would not let our mixed party of 13 people get in ......oh well there loss
MEDUSSA - 25 Jul 2005 08:10
What a fantastically refreshing bar! Nottingham P&P is a former church that still retains the original and unique architecture. I enjoyed one of the best Martini cocktails I've ever had, complimented by superb decor. Simply flawless.
andrew_uk - 21 Apr 2005 19:56
You need to know Pitcher & Piano rules when ordering drinks. They will ALWAYS give you doubles unless you specifically order a single measure. This can make it seem expensive and you can get a lot drunker than you thought you should be in a very short time! However, the food, atmosphere and setting are fabulous
jackstini - 3 Feb 2005 12:54
What an amazing venue. Unbelievable food a fine selection of wines and great service. Highly recommended

this pub is fantastic to look at is always heaving with fit boys on a saturday. the last time i went the bouncers even managed to get rid of all the people in the queue in front of us so we didn't have to wait. they play top music and the galleries are ace for spotting your prey!
Eleanor - 3 Jun 2004 12:41
It's great! I went there on a Sunday afternoon and the atmosphere was peaceful and just right. I never want to go when it's busy! I don't know if the drinks were expensive because I didn't pay, but if they were, then it doesn't matter. The place is way too nice to worry about things like that!
Nicky - 9 May 2004 20:11
Not even it's location can distract from the irrefutable truth of this being another Pitcher & Piano effort.
Good for: Examing the resulting dichotomy.
thenationofjames - 27 Jan 2004 13:35
This is an exceptional pub.
Exceptional because the layout inside is great. Because its inside a church, there is loads of space and the balconies inside give a great view (of the church architecture and for the talent!)
The drinks are very very expensive.
anonymous - 23 Nov 2003 02:03
Good place to start off the night. Arrive before 8:30 or you'll have to queue to get in.
this_lady_loves_beer - 2 Nov 2003 15:25
This place rocks. Like the idea that they have made use of the church. The living room opposite is also cool and very friendly staff and horny barmen
catherine - [email protected] - 11 Oct 2003 01:52
It's a lovely place to drink, worth a look even if you only stay for one (expensive) round...
Sarah - 10 Jul 2003 13:27
Grade II* listed building mainly due to the stained glass by Pre-Raphaelite Edward Burne-Jones. Can't fault the pub but I never thought I'd see that day that I would spend 10 for 2 drinks and a cigar in me home town. Okay it was a pint of Hoegaarden and a double baileys for the missus, and the cigar was some posh thing not your typical Hamlet but come on, ten quid?
Phil - 2 Jul 2003 12:01
Great atmosphere but can be a bit empty early evening which in such a huge building is strange. Great meeting place and no smoke problems thanks to the "high" ceilings.
Iain - 20 Jun 2003 12:29
This is the most amazing bar i have ever been in, the staff are all gorgeous and friendly, i had cod and it was lovely, and the barstaff and waitresses all seemed to be enjoying themselves whilst working. the only thing i found a bit strange was that it used to be a church.
jennifer brush - 6 Jun 2003 10:24
It is a lovely pub, and a chnage for it to be in a church but it is well pricey!!!

My mate loves the toilets there though! :-/
Sunny - 26 May 2003 13:15
hey loved it here! came for a friends b'day and had platform taped of 4 us! a bit over priced but is it actually legal 2 put booze in a cathedral!???
miss hargrave of uk - 22 Apr 2003 20:17
Really unusual - but quite smart pub. Had a great night there, would definatly go back if I visit Nottingham again.
Mike - 8 Apr 2003 12:51
Stylish, but over-priced.
I have to imagine that the recruitment process requires the manager to scour the whole land for his staff, as I cannot believe that such a even level of gross incompetence has been achieved by luck.
Don't eat here, unless you particularly like lotteries, as the ability to write down a few words and relay this information to the kitchen is beyond the scope of the employees
Clam - 24 Mar 2003 11:32
its a converted church. Nice enough to look at, but i never felt like getting pissed in the house of a wrathful God.
