please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This pub near to Plumstead Common is a predominantly locals' boozer. But it has a nice interior spread over 3 rooms. The only real ale was Landlord, as most people here appear to be lager drinkers. There are TVs showing sport and the middle room has a pool table in the corner. Serves a purpose. But not worth making a special visit.

Loads of politics and bun fighting going on between the manager and the locals. What started off good with the refurb seems to have turned a bit sour. Shame as it is a good pub, decent beer (now), good food, and rather pleasant. Hopefully the silly arguments will go away and things will settle down.

Visited for Sunday lunch which was very, very good. The portions were huge, the child size portion was bigger than you would normally expect at most pubs, the adult one was massive. There was also lots of meat. The vegetables were leek, red cabbage, mashed carrot and swede and roast spuds topped off with a homemade Yorkshire pud. Absolutely delicious. Good selection of drinks, nice garden, family friendly. Highly recommend.

Wow what a welcome surprise this pub is. After walking from Plumstead High St the last thing I expected was a throughally decent trendy pub...to be honest Plumstead is not a very attractive place!

I happened to visit on the day the new landlord was throwing a party for the re-opening.

An old style pub with separate public bar and lounge bar areas that have been opened up but still retaining all the old charm, very well done in my opinion.

There's a dart board and pool table in the front bar.

Now to the drinks. A couple of cask pumps that were serving Wells Bombardier and my choice the very local Hop Stuff Pale Ale @ 4.5%. A very good pint served in perfect condition.

As it was the opening day the place was pretty packed, the garden was also busy as that's where the food was being served plus with the weather being cracking it was the place to be.

For my first visit I obviously timed it right and may have got the best possible service and ale selection, but i'll take this and I shall return again.

To be more precise, that's three new members all praising the place to the high heavens, after one new member slagged the place off !

Don't you just love these flame wars ?

The Star Inn is a great establishment!!

Since the refurbishment and opening in June 2015, I can honestly say that the new owners Rob & Melissa are a great couple who have put all their hard work and finances into the Star and what a great job they have done!!

They are very welcoming, children and dog friendly which is great as many pubs do not like having dogs in their pubs nowadays.

I have never seen the Star so busy as it is today (Sunday – Saturday) as it has been recently. Whether that’s due to the pub opening recently or not. With the various upgrades in the pub now I can honestly say it has a even better environment and people friendly vibe in the Star.

To finally have a garden is great as well!! What more can you ask for in decent weather (when we get it).

With the various alcoholic beverages now on offer, I have never seen such a wide option to choose from now. Whether that’s Beer, Cider, Ale or Spirits considering I have been drinking the Star for over 10 years!!

The food menu at present is great and will only get better once the final bits are complete (gas problems). The selection at present of meat boards, burgers and more is great and cant complain about this whatsoever. I look forward to the bigger menu.

Not being biased but I have lived in Plumstead for 30 years, I have drank all around Plumstead for over 10 years, I can honestly say that The Star is a great pub and I will return on a weekly basis.

Great refurbishment! The new landlord and lady have done a fantastic job with this pub, its modern yet comfortable, has a great atmosphere, lovely beer garden, very welcoming staff, fantastic high quality food, great selection of beers and cider and excellent wine. What more can you ask for! We will be visiting again!

We've moved to Plumstead recently from the Royal Arsenal and were really pleased to see that options for going out in the area are on the increase!

The Star has been lovingly refurbished and the new Landlord / Lady Rob & Melissa are a lovely couple. We were made very welcome, including our cocker spaniel, and as they have a young son, its very child friendly too.

The pub has only recently reopened so they're still finding their feet - they are awaiting gas upgrades so only a limited menu on offer but the meat boards we had at the weekend were lovely - really good quality meat and delicious bread.

There is a good range of beer on offer - I'm biased but always like to see local offerings - as well as some really lovely wines and a great spirit selection - I'm a gin fan so to see something outside of the usual Gordons is a massive win for me.

With this, music at the Mill and the Plumstead Pantry...its all going on in Plumstead!

I went there for the first time since Brian gave it over to the new manager this evening. I was there from about 6.30 until closing time with my partner.
We drank about 5 pints each. At the end of the evening we were joined at our table by someone we didn't know. He introduced himself to us and then began to drink out of a can he brought in.
The staff came over and told him and us off.
As we left the owner came up to us and was verbally abusive to me as I had earrings and was thus a sad case and then racially abused my Irish partner. His behaviour was deranged.
He told us in no uncertain terms he didn't want the types who used to drink there anymore. Apparently we are losers and not good enough to be in his pub.
[lease if you are drinking around Plumstead Common go to the Mill or the Ship, he has no concept of customer cared or how to grow a business.
And he doesn't like Charlton.

Currently closed for renovation. Shame, because it was lovely, though very dated. That's what I like about it. New people have taken over and will concentrate on good food, I heard. Will be a great addition to the area if that's the case, as dining options are pretty limited there.

Very attractive Victorian pub, very much a drinkers pub and the Courage was, as often, very good indeed. Only paid a lightning visit but lots of great architectural visits and a good place to watch TV football.

Nice pub split into public bar and salon. Fun quiz on Tuesdays is popular. Beer is ok Pride and Broadside are regulars. Pleasant place to watch football. No food that I can think of.

popped in last Sunday thought I'd give it a try on my way to the old mill, was a lot busier than I expected, and was pleasant enough, but the bombadier wasn't as good as it could have been, but other wise not to bad

Has been done up very nicely on the outside (last year I think), lovely flowers and looks very smart & clean. A bit dated on the inside though and could also do with some new seating in places. Friendly enough and a good atmosphere, decent prices and the lager tasted good. Well placed for jumping on the 53 for a night out in Blackheath but only until places like this realise they're missing out on a lot of new money and give themselves a facelift for all the new people to Plumstead Common :o)

Traditional type of pub. Very Friendly with good selection of beers, especially real ales (always a good guest ale or two). Food at lunchtime only.
