If you like being treated like dirt then this is the place for you!

I visited the pub on a Saturday night after having been out for a meal on a
friends birthday. Nothing was said to us by the staff on the door regarding the
coat policy, and they were certainly not "checked" prior to entering. Yet after
buying a round of drinks we were confronted by an overly aggressive member
of the security staff asking us to take off our coats and put them in the cloak
room.

I refused to do so and what a big mistake that was! I wasn't asked to leave,
instead I was physically taken hold of and marched outside. My remaining
friends inside were then told I was barred, and not too surprisingly they left also
before they got the same treatment.

We were never anything other than polite to the staff, even after being thrown
out, so to be treated in that way was completely unacceptable.

Neither me, my friends or my girlfriend have ever been in a venue which
enforces this kind of coat policy. So in my opinion it's just a ruse to get
an extra few quid out of people.

I had also never been asked to leave, or thrown out of a venue before.
So hopefully by avoiding The Bell, I never will again.

RE: last post by Mason25

Hi, we have just purchased this business and thank all for the valued comments on this page. It is a little disturbing to rad the last post. Despite Mason25 being asked to leave last night for -*sensored*- (Admin.). However we do value the comments and will address them immediately.

We would like to point ot the following:

- The cloakroom costs 1, hardly a beefeaters salary! It is policy for all outdoor coats to be checked into the cloakroom as in all professional late venues. This falls in line with police guidelines and security against coat and content theft as is very common in poorly run venues that do not adopt such a sensible policy. Coats are asked to be checked in prior to any guest even entering the venue, thus giving our guests a choice. I sure that any sensible person would understand and agree with this widely adopted policy.

Terrible place smelling of wet dog and if you stand still too long your feet stick to the floor. Hygiene definately a foreign word there. wishy woshy overpriced beer.
Free entry at weekends when it becomes a club/pub however the clockroom seems to be compulsory which is charged at a rate closer to a beefeaters salary to guard the crown jewels.
The agressive overbearing doormen like to force the coat thing on people once they are inside and have bought a drink giving you around 5 seconds to do as they say or removing your drink and evicting you.
So if you are a decent folk dont bother going in unless you are used to being treated like some kind of scumbag.
Not bad for supposedly Haverhills premier spot ! lmfao
Good buisness for green king, pack in the kids fleece em quick n turf em out.

Its a disco bar that serves microwaved meals.

Not one for serious beer lovers.

In fact, unless your under 21 and like head pounding music its one to avoid.

in my opinion - ignore the 2 posts below..

The food is always freshly prepared, and always comes out piping hot, so you know its not been sitting on a hot plate for 20 mins like u will find in many places. The chef oftern comes out to check how the meal was and oftern helps deliver the food on busy lunches, which to me shows that the staff will help each other out - unlike in some pubs where the chef does nothing but cook, and to me it adds the "personal" touch that many places miss out on.

the beer is good, the pipes seem to be cleaned regularly which helps maintain a good pint, and i do mean "pint" as i have been to many pubs where u get more then an inch of head on your beer, so u are actually getting your moneys worth, a good selection of beers/largers/bitters/spirits and obviously soft drinks, reasonably priced.

The staff, are always very freindly and always enjoy a chat if you talk to them, mostly female staff but being male i cant really say anything bad about that, its always nice to see a good looking woman behind the bar u can attempt to chat up in a drunken mess :) she will probably laugh but hey its all part of the pub scene :) young and old.

Over the weekends the night life is very busy as the bell is a pub/club at weekends.
This is one pub where ID is oftern checked so you dont find yourself drinking next to 16yr old children like you find in most pubs, the security guys operate a strict 1 in 1 out when the pub is full, and these guys are oftern able to contain any outbreaks and evict the trouble makers rather quickly.

they have won the Greene king awards a few times i forget which ones exactly but it shows that they know how to run a pub.

Mason25 - 20 Dec 2006 11:28
ok, best to go in if you know people. Very clicky not particuly welcoming
THFC - 28 Nov 2006 20:13
Absolute hole. typical Greene King Pub that wants to take your money, offer you frozen "fresh cooked" food. The only savibg grace here was the DJ some months back. Great bloke but he was a premiership DJ in a coca cola league pub
