Lamb Hotel, Axbridgeback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The Lamb can be found in Axbridge's square, directly opposite King John's Hunting Lodge. It seems a fairly old building, with a dark interior. Most people appeared to be there for Sunday roasts. But, there were a couple of drinkers. The real ale was Butcombe Original, with the ciders being Thatcher's Traditional & Ashton Press. Bar skittles takes pride of place in the centre of the front bar. Needless to say, we had to indulge.

As the previous reviewer said, the pub is on a picturesque square. Lovely place to sit outside and watch the world go by, especially with a pint of well kept Butcombe IPA (£3.60) as I did. That was one of three ales on tap, which was a pleasant surprise for a hotel.

A popular Butcombe pub located in the picturesque village square. Once you�re through the throng of smokers congregating outside, it�s suitably �olde worlde� inside as befits the area, with a sagging, beamed ceiling, plenty of exposed stonework and lots of old fireplaces around, some no longer in use but others with wood burners in.
The front bar seems to be the one that�s popular with the locals and was pretty rammed early on a recent Friday evening. The bar counter itself is an L-shape, but the layout is not ideal and service can be tricky. The bottom leg of the �L� is in the aforementioned public bar, but quite close to the tables and chairs, so there�s only a limited amount of room to squeeze in to. That combined with many of the locals who seem to like taking up space at the bar can make it difficult to get yourself noticed. The upright leg of the �L� is pretty much in a corridor, so this too is not ideally positioned to get your drinks in.
The front bar also has a table skittles game which you don�t see too often these days, and the bar counter itself is an interesting feature, the base being made out of dozens of bottles set in to the plaster. Above the bar is more old timber, with plenty of horse brasses around and glass tankards hanging from the ceiling. Staff all seemed pleasant and helpful.
At the back you�ve got a couple of rooms that are again laid out with tables and chairs, but although the food seems popular it doesn�t dominate. Only the small snug at the very back had tables laid up for eating. The menu was a decent selection of pub grub, with your usual chilli, lasagne, ham egg & chips, etc, plus a few more adventurous dishes and a few specials chalked up on a board, along with an appetising selection of deserts. Most of the mains were around the �9 mark and this seemed reasonable value with our Butcombe Pie and �curry of the day� being pleasant enough (although nothing spectacular) and generous portions.
Beers on tap were predominantly Butcombe, with their bitter, Gold and Blond. There was also Fuller�s London Pride. Ciders were Ashton Press and Thatcher�s Dry.
All in all, well worth a visit. Note that parking in the square is very limited, and most of the nearby streets have double yellow lines. There are however a couple of public car parks within about two minutes walk, and these are free after 6:00pm.

Reasonably good pub serving Butcombes Beer. Food good value, though woman serving a tad rude, particularly to an old lady sat opposite me.

Sorry to disapoint the Final arbiter,but my impression to day Sat 1st Aug not so good.Yes ok? olde worlde place,the Butcombe was very nice indeed, but as for the friendly welcome,were was it,the Barmaid/Man looked as though they were attending a funeral,i dropped a couple of jovial quips,to no avail,the waitress was the nearest person i saw and spoke to with anything like welcoming..And the varied couples of wine drinking locals,with there pretentious hats on was something else..I tried the famous pie meal nice and substantial but at �10 quid it should be and wasn,t anything to write home about, And on leaving, a couple of the pretentious said oh good we can have our seats now..I know were my friend and i can spend the next �35 quid,and it won,t be here, enough said.........

Another visit, with sons' in-laws from New Zealand. They were most impressed, although they don't seem to be drinkers, but I made up for it(!) Food and service spot on, and beer almost as good as last time.

Friendly, welcoming, approachable staff. Excellent food, and the best pint of Butcombe I have ever tasted. Perfect!

Owned by Butcombe Brewery this is an impressive large Pub with an emphasis on good food and drink. The building itself stands right in the centre of axbridge, opposite the Historic King John's Hunting Lodge, and is full of old beams etc. Watch your head! Beer on offer s the full Butcombe range plus two guests; on the day these were Fullers London Pride and Dorset Brewery's JD 1742. Stuck to Butcombe which was superb and has the Beef and Butcombe Pie whilst my Wife had a huge filled Jacket Potato. Can not praise the food or drink highly enough. A must do if you are in the area

A cracking good local pub. Always has a welcome. Beer is good, cider is better and the food perfect. Excellent all round.

A lovely pub. Great location on Axbridge's medieval square, it is owned by the local Butcombe Brewery, and has their three delicuous beers on tap.
An unusual layout leads through the comfy bar and into the pleasent back-garden. On a recent trip on a Friday I had a whitebait starter and a damn fine steak for a tenner, which can't be bad either!
Highly reccomended.
