user reviews of the Angel Inn, Shoeburyness

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

6 of us had a meal at the Angel recently and this is just my review as the others all had a lot better food and more of it than me. However we all agreed that the service was really slow. I ordered scallops and when they finally arrived there were only 3 tiny overcooked gritty scallops on the plate, one was just like gristle and I couldn't even chew it, My main course was salmon which I was really looking forward to, however compared with my fellow diners, my portion was minuscule and the salmon was overcooked and really dry. I must admit that the rest of my party did enjoy their meals I was just unlucky in my choices but not being a meat eater there was little else to choose from. I won't be returning here as it was really disappointing.

We only stopped for a quick pint on our way home from the beach, but we were favourably impressed. We couldn't make up our minds between the beers on offer, so the barmaid offered a taste. That always impresses me.

And it was good stuff, too. We sat outside where it was nicer than you'd think given that it's on a roundabout. Definitely worth a return visit

Nearest pub to the inlaws so I invariably get in there whenever we are visiting.........Beer always reliable and the food is excellent as well

I rarely give anything more than a 8/10 and never give 10/10 so this 9 means it's one hell of a place. Clean, tidy, smart, refreshing with great service from the bar right through to the food service and the restaurant. The ales are great and well presented, it's just a bit more expensive than the down town Southend pubs. Otherwise, it's excellent.

nice looking pub. very clicky customers. strangers are frowned upon. meals nice but very expensive for what you get. staff are miserable and asking for their recomendation well forget it!! had an average pint of ipa was warm and the glass dirty. will try again when everyone learns to smile

what a poncy pub, regulars are extremely snobby and the staff are rude, overpriced, not for a revisit, ever

I haven't been to the Angel very recently but I really rate this pub as one of my favourites in the area. My friends and I used to frequent every Friday night and it was always packed - food is also great - traditional pub grub that you would expect along with some added specials but all done very well.
I would recommend this pub to anyone who has never been before.

Sadly the Angel has fallen from grace. Still good beer, food & table staff, but the management is now terrible. There are now lots of hidden extras, that really add up and can ruin a good meal. Beware, you can be charged for 'free' complimentary items. If you do dine here, get the full costs in writing, in advance.
