Would say this is more restaurant than pub, however that is not a dig as the food was pretty bloody amazing and loved every mouthful.

Staff were all really lovely indeed and helpful and if it were summer months, setting would be amazing. I went on a miserable Sunday in November, however still lovely. Huge garden and good array of your typical beers, nice wine list too though.

Lovely, and look forward to seeing it again in summer months!

Have been to this pub twice in 2 weeks and have to say that the food is very good, average priced and the staff are very polite and friendly, the ales are minimal but at least a good pint of the Adnams makes up for it. The setting of the pub is nice although it rained on both occasions so did not eat outside ( and this was in August ) Inside is warm and cosy and even though busy was not too noisy.
It makes a change to walk out of a pub having had a good evening/afternoon food and drink. Would recommend.

Look at all the red Ferrari's in the car park which tells you its a big hit at the week-end with the In crowd.

Nice looking pub in a great setting, the garden is nice on a hot day.
The Adnams beer was very well served, I won't be going back because it's the most expensive bitter shandy I've had anywhere.
The beer is advertised on the chalk board as 3 a pint....a shandy costs 3.50, that makes the lemonade 4 a pint.
No wonder most of the cars in the car park were 50k+

A fine old country pub in a really tranquil setting. Go on a sunny weekday to avoid the crowds and sit out front with a pint of Fullers - you'd never believe Brentwood is just down the road.

This is another restaurant posing as a pub with expensive drinks and very poor service at the bar. The food is hit and miss and the decor looks like your grannies cottage, which is ok if you like that sort of thing.

I went with some friends and we all had a steak sandwich. This was the worst steak I have ever had. It had so much gristle in it me and my two other friends could not actually eat it. One of my friends was physically sick whilst eating the sandwich. Now surley any chef worth his sort would see some bad meat a mile away, I just cant beleive it was served to us.
To make matters worse we asked for tomato sauce and the lady waited whilst we put it on our dinner. She then commented that "this is the only sauce platter we have for the pub".

This leads me to beleive that some cost cutting has been put in place hence the cheap steak!

Wouldnt recommend this to anyone however, maybe it was a one off?

I must say that this Pub supplements extraordinary customer service and courtesy. The food was great, and the atmosphere was superior. This pub is great for when you've been biking in Thorndon Country Park.

Reasonable prices also.

Populare with the IN crowd over the weekend but expensive drinks best to avoid.

I would say that the quality of the food on offer is fairly reasonable, and the surroundings ? well average if not looking a little tired in some areas, however the one thing that is beyond belief is the ridiculous price of the drinks!! how about 9.75 for 2 average sized glasses of wine! thats more expensive than london prices ashamedly but why?? there is very little on offer in this pub to justify such expense ? this equates to 4.75 a glass and because they have a bizzare habit of storing their wines (once opened) in some kind of old butler sink filled with cold water which soon reaches room temperature this can sometimes be tepid ! if they are charging that kind of money for a glass of wine then please lets have it cold ! Halfway House 5 minutes drive away is such better value.

I have to disagree with the above reviews. I've been to the Greyhound many times both in large groups, but more frequently just with my girlfriend. We have never been asked to move from tables, even during the (very busy) Sunday Lunch period.

The food is very good here and the service is always acceptable. The portions are generous and the ingredients seem fresh. I really like the Cheesy Mash that they serve, their burgers are good too.

Well worth a visit, and the numbers during weekend lunch service are a testament to the quality of the food.

We were disappointed to be given a dark table for two by the wall when the place was empty. The manager told us that certain tables were allocated to couples, families, and that we would have to stay at our table & not allowed to sit at table for 4 by the bright window. We left and watched many other couples enter the pub - what tables were they allocated to?

Very disappointed with discriminating service. My partner and I arrived early forlunch. The pub was empty. We were given a dark two seater table by the wall. We moved to a bright 4 seater table by the window. The manager said we could not sit there as he would soon be busy, and we had to sit at the allocated table. We decided to leave since the place was empty and remained virtually empty an hour later. We will not be recommneding this pub to other couples since they only seem to accomodate families. Discriminating and disappointing.
