Visited here many years ago and, as they are meant to be dog friendly, we paid a lunchtime visit when in the area recently. A nice pub with friendly staff. Youngs and Doom Bar on offer and I had the Youngs, which was in good condition. Food was very good and good value. We both had their excellent burger which was £10 but they had light lunches for £7. The menu looked good. Will definitely return.

Stayed at the nearby Petworth Old Station and this pub is just a hundred yards or so away. Very friendly staff and animals. Quite sophisticated pub food which I liked though my wife found her choice restricted - no simple stuff like fish n chips. Quality of the food was excellent though for once I did not opt for a beer so cannot pass comment. I would go to the Badgers again.

Stayed the night after a gap of many years. The room was lovely, the steak for dinner was brilliant, cooked breakfast great and, the beer and wine selection is good. (Doombar and Youngs ale) Not cheap but, good value for money and the place retains its old english pub feel. When summer comes there is a lovely outdoor area. The small bar area is congested and this is a problem with no easy answer.

Great place for a treat.

Moved to the Petworth area before Christmas, and been looking around for decent pubs. The Badgers is in a nice spot and looked nice from the outside. Inside was a bit crowded, with no easy access to the bar. The Landlady and bar staff were friendly, but the regulars were a noisy lot who showed no regard for other customers like us. Im afraid the beer wasn't upto much either. Will give it another chance soon.

Interesting collection of comments. Met with a very warm welcome by young staff but the atmosphere got noticeably cooler when the landlady arrived. Overall impression very good although we didnt eat.

Found a gem!.....Stopped for a meal on the way back from the Sussex coast and had my faith truly restored in the traditions of good old English pubs. The welcome was warm and friendly with a relaxed atmosphere, no fruit machines or juke box music. Good London Pride ale was closely followed buy a meal of Warm Smoked Salmon & Hazelnuts starter and then Venison, which claimed to have been locally produced and butchered, it tasted fantastic!

Would definitely recommend this lovely traditional pub.

The landlady is a thoroughly false and unpleasant individual. She pretended to be interested in a couple who were chatting with her and then promptly made cruel jokes at their expense as soon as they left the pub, unconcerned that other customers could hear her and that her staff were laughing along with her.

Like a nasty version of Audrey fforbes-Hamilton in To The Manor Born.

The food is also overpriced - most of the main courses should cost a fiver less.

This pub would have been fine (great even) if they had been more welcoming to new custom and the regulars had been less boorish and hadn't blocked the bar area, seeming affronted when politely asked to let us pass. I feel sorry for the bar staff dealing with that lot and trying to keep smiling.

as I tap, I am coming to the end of a great couple of days b&b here at Badgers. The rooms are excellent, the food is exceptional, but the beer is well kept. Jules, the landlady is wonderful and the service is just right. This fussy bugger cannot find fault.

Was wandering about the beautiful countryside when I bumped in to this charming pub. Went in and discovered the perfect company, G&T and food.

It was lovely being in The Badgers

The Badgers is an amazing pub.

The landlady is great, the food is excellent, the drinks are as they should be.

There is nowhere I'd rather be.

Kind regards,
Red

I and my girlfriend went for a little motorcycle ride from South-East London to Bognor Regis on Saturday. By the time we got to Petworth we got a bit peckish and saw this pleasant looking pub by the road. We parked our bike and were about to enter the pub when the landlady confronted us and adviced us that the pub has a strict "no motorcyclists" policy. I was utterly confused - this is the first time in my six years of motorcycle touring I have ever encountered anything like this anywhere in the world. Cannot say anything about the pub, as we were not allowed inside.

The Badgers: a great environment where excellent food is being served. The service is quick and friendly and the quality of the food is outstanding.

Stayed in the very charming 'old-railway hotel' next door for a weekend and never actually went into this pub. The reason - doesn't open until 6.30pm and shuts at 10.30pm - on a Saturday! Also, there's a brass plaque outside announcing that 'no motorcyclists' - that's a bit of a sweeping ban isn't it? Looked like a nice pub from the outside but clearly the landlord is a bit too far up his own ar5e. The food menu is well expensive too, from what we saw.

Rude owner, poor service - exceedingly slow and some of the food dreadful.
