This is such a nice Pub and the Landlord and Landlady always give you a warm welcome !

I feel the 2.50 Menu is the best in value for miles ! And just go and see for yourself !

Just go in and see for yourself !!

As others have noted, this pub offers a polite welcome, bargain grub and well-kept Pride. Definitely Aldershot, not Aldershit.

We were Inverness fans on a tour of the south of england for a week. as you can imagine we seen a few pubs in that time. The Golden lion was/is the most welcoming pub we were in. In fact, for those ICT fans there, the Golden Lion is now favorite CaleyAway day. Joe and Kaye were brilliant hosts. The barmaid on Friday was good caic, funny and good with punters. Didn't have any food but seen it being served and looked awesome. Joe IS a Legend.

Like others, popped in on the way/to footy. Welcoming place, only Pride bitter but well kept. Was karaoke that evening and gets busy but worth the effort. Cheap and filling food. Better than others in the area.

A pleasant and welcoming pub with good bar staff.

Only one real ale (London Pride) but kept in good condition, the place to go if you want to watch darts on the TV.

When they have a local league darts match in the pub the price of a pint drops by 50 pence.

Very nice pub, always a favourite to go to before an Aldershot match at the rec, and also to watch sky sports in. The 2 meal when bought with a drink menu is absolutely superb, and the staff are very friendly.

I was passing through Aldershot when I stopped at the Golden Lion for a pint or two. I went in around lunchtime and saw they had a menu of meals for 2. In this time of hardship those prices were hard to beat, so I tucked into a lovely jacket potato and went on my merry. I have revisited the pub a couple of times since and they still do the menu, and the staff are always happy to please. Great pub, great food, and all the footy you could wish for.

Popped in before a game at Aldershot Town so only a brief visit. Just London Pride on in terms of real ale but it was kept well enough. Fairly small pub with large screens in the bar and a pool room out the back. Came across as a reasonably friendly little locals pub.

Hi anniemh,

Don't remember the team myself as I was only 10 at the time! But is the Ian you're referring to Ian Jopling, son of the landlord, Joe? If so, Joe still runs the place and Ian is there a fair bit.

hi can anyone remember the golden lion footy team 4 1988-89 called themselves the juice heads and went on hols to corfu. One in particular called ian, nicknamed curly,as wondered if he was still around and how he was. love anne-marie

I agree with hengist about the barmaid babe, who's still there! This is a very 'working class' pub: come in your overalls, smoke anywhere, eat sandwiches or cheap pub grub all with chips (but only until 2 Mon-Fri), watch Sky Sports. Not a place to go if you want something classy, or a wide selection of real ales. Despite the Courage sign, I could only see London Pride.

Excellent pub - good booze and the food is superb and very well priced. Shows all the football, including Prem Plus.

Went into this pub for the first time yesterday 13/08/2005 between 12:15 to about 5:30. I have always had a dislike of Aldershot as I am a Farnborough man!
I did however like this pub, good landlord, friendly staff and a babe of a barmaid with long black hair.
Good atmosphere and good food as well.
I liked this pub and will go again sometime.

The Golden is a popular watering hole and is also great for food the food is really reasonable and you get plenty of it for your money ,the landlord is an avid footy fan infact he used to play for Aldershot and Leicester ,so youll find every match shown on the 2 big screens as it has premiership plus
