user reviews of TP's, Bromley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Thankfully it's currently closed down....who knows if it will open and again, fingers crossed it won't.
lezford - 2 Jan 2017 12:22
Absolute stab shop. Changes name every couple of years when license it taken away after another incident. Avoid.
marky_mark1970 - 20 Jan 2016 16:16
Walkabout has indeed been replaced by another rather dubious looking 'establishment'.
trottis - 15 Aug 2010 20:45
Not any more. As of today it appears Bromley is a Walkabout free zone. Couldn't help noticing when passing in the car this morning. The frontage was in the process of being revamped. Will be Interesting to see what happens.
trottis - 16 Mar 2010 17:02
It is now February and Walkabout is still here. From what I hear in the press is that it is definitely going to become Wahoo as will Walkabouts in Swindon and Brighton.

I did try it a few weeks ago thinking it would be rubbish and would be the last time before it closed. We were pleasantly surprised how good it was and at the end of the night we agreed it was the best place we could have gone.
TheDaleks - 6 Feb 2010 18:08
From January Walkabout will be no more. It will be rebranded as Wahoo. I have looked at the website for the 3 venues that are open and it looks like a cheap and cheerful American style bar. a very bright colour scheme from what I can see from the photos. cyan and purple walls with a lot of blue and purple neon. I am sure it will be fun but it wont be classy by any means. Bromley needs a new pub lets hope this offers something different and worth going to. I can imagine it being very popular for the first few months until a fight breaks out and then its starts its journey downhill.
TheDaleks - 18 Dec 2009 21:18
What a shite hole, full of toss pots. If you want to get stabed this is
for you! Full of teens.
Dopemonger - 15 Dec 2009 14:33
Can hardly wait.. Still, it may just be what is needed there. I doubt it - but you never know.
trottis - 1 Nov 2009 13:57
it looks like Walkabout Bromley will be rebranded as Wahoo. So far Cavendish bars has refitted Walkabouts in Oldham, Southampton and Putney. from first impressions from Wahoo's website it will become an American version of Walkabout complete with buckets of buffalo wings and grilled food. if anything it will be more tacky than Walkabout. this will be funny to see. it will probably be a McDonalds with booze that has a tacky wild west interior. i can imagine just what sort of people are going to go there.
TheDaleks - 30 Oct 2009 09:11
One of Bromley's finest shite holes without doubt. A veritable Aladdin's Cave for the Chav element!
trottis - 27 Oct 2009 00:46
Walkabout Bromley has been purchased by Cavendish Bars ltd. They will re-brand the bar in the next 2 to 3 months. I am curious to see what direction Cavendish Bars will take it in. I hope they bring something to Bromley that it has been missing for years. We don't need a poncy bar like Sky again. Look what happened to that! I hope it doesn't become one of those places with too many bouncers and too many drunk teenagers. Oh it will probably have that 90's 'no trainers' dresscode. If it does let hope it doesn't last. I wear what I like when I go to the pub. It's my money I am spending and those types of establishments should welcome there customers.

I think the reason that I haven't been to Walkabout recently is that the entry policy seems so so strict. I think they scan a picture of you into the computer that is on the wall in the entrance. Why would anyone put them self though that just to get a pint. No Joke, it was easier getting through passport control at Heathrow the other week.
TheDaleks - 25 Jul 2009 21:18
I haven't been to Walkabout for a while. I had a drink in there one afternoon at the weekend. it's good when you get the window seat as you get the best of both worlds. It was full of ex-con style men and a few lone male drinkers. the weird thing was that a lot of the lone drinkers seemed to know each other even though they each had tables to themselves (with Sainsburys bags)

The bar staff are always really nice. One bar made even (with smile) asked us 'how are you'. you don't get that often.

I don't go in the evening as the florescent Jacketed door guys put me off. Apparently you have to show some sort of ID whatever your age and they scan it in on a machine by the door. Why would someone put them self through all that just to enjoy a pint.

It's funny to see the 2m square smoking pit full of smokers snarling and grunting when passing in the evening.
TheDaleks - 27 Mar 2009 17:05
Yes, It really is too bad that decent proper pubs are closing everywhere at an alarming rate. Yet awful crud holes like this still appear to be thriving. No justice at all. Yikes!
trottis - 13 Mar 2009 17:20
Awful place, just awful. Full of chavs, terrible beer, but at least keeps the chavs out of some of the better pubs in Bromley. One to avoid, unless you like tacky themed pubs, and a punch up.
enjoy_a_pint - 7 Mar 2009 17:15
who would want to come here anyway?
igocollege - 13 Jan 2009 19:15
This pub has started scanning and storing your ID as a condition of entry. If you think agree this is ridiculously Draconian when all you want is a beer, you should consider boycotting the place and send Walkabout an email through their website letting them know. Maybe if enough people stand up to this crap they might stop doing it, who knows!
daveslanted - 29 Dec 2008 16:45
A notice in the window says it has been closed down owing to a 'criminal investigation'. All looks very fishy indeed! Really doesn't come as a huge surprise though, with this particular watering hole (emphasis being on HOLE)
- Good riddance!! Hopefully it will be replaced with a more civilized hostelry.
trottis - 16 Nov 2008 20:41
i walked passed Walkabout last night, Friday 14 or November and Walkabout has now closed down. it looks like it is the latest victim of general decline in pubs and of the credit crunch. i am surprised as it was one of the busiest pubs around. Bromley Town Centre can't get any more quiet can it?

Farewell Walkabout!
TheDaleks - 15 Nov 2008 09:21
I often pop in here after work as the Carlsberg is cheap during the week but that's about the only thing it's got going for it. The staff are friendly enough when you can catch their attention but as I'm usually there when it's quiet they are often chatting among themselves and take a bit of interrupting. The beer is nothing to write home about at the best of times and it's the only pub I've been to in recent months where I've had an off pint.

Later in the evenings (particularly when there's sport on) or at weekends the place does get busy and the bar staff admittedly work hard when required but don't seem to have mastered the knack of serving people in the order they arrive at the bar.
killerschick - 27 Aug 2008 13:03
I have only been a couple of times but it's always been busy, but not too busy. I have always found the staff really friendly and the lovely Aussie accent makes it even better!
willowsong - 11 Jun 2008 15:40
i think Walkabout Bromley is having something of a revival. it seems to be getting more popular and busier every month. it looked packed from the outside and a queue to get in gather on many occasions.

very friendly bar staff the last time i visited. quit surprising.
TheDaleks - 16 May 2008 21:34
On not having been there for a while we decided to try it on Good Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised.

The pub was vary busy but not busy enough to be annoying. the bar staff were very quick to serve us and were very friendly. i was actually asked a number of times if i had been served, by different staff.

overall we had a great night in there. the music was good but not horridly loud. we got seats and the drinks were pretty cheap. well worth a go.
TheDaleks - 24 Mar 2008 19:58
I think these guys must have been refused before as Walkabout would have to be the most strict venue in bromley for ID as I am 23 and get checked ever time I go in there. Sour grapes guys.
Rock on Walkabout
anonymous - 16 Aug 2007 16:40
I agree with "Get_me_mome_Old_Tom". Why are acurate reviews of this dismal place being pulled? Such censorship is bang out of order,

Luke
balletfeet - 16 Jul 2007 13:17
Reasonable during the week for a pint, as it's quiet and quite cheap with a survival card, but I'd not even dream of visiting on a weekend.
man_of_kent - 30 Jun 2007 20:02
Dire - unless you wear tracksuits and like a fight!

Careful with the girls as they're probably under 18 and will have slept with at least one member of doorstaff!
john_john - 14 May 2007 17:35
I don't like this venue anymore mainly due to the security changing and all the friendly, approachable door staff have gone only to be replaced by ignorant grunting bouncers. For years walkabout had the best doormen in Bromley but no longer. I think the manager changed last year and the pub hasn't been the same since. Shame, i miss the old walkabout.
anonymous - 3 Mar 2007 03:20
Why have all but one of the reviews accurately portraying the clientele as young thugs, cheap tarts or paedophiles got pulled? A temporary technical fault I hope - people need to know to avoid this place unless you fall into one of the three aforementioned categories.
Get_me_some_Old_Tom - 8 Jan 2007 13:54
Enjoy watching grown men prey on young girls? Then go here - a truly awful pub where the ability to have your head shoved up your own arse is a must. There isn't any stand out features, and if your in here after about 6pm you can sense the agression brewing (normally from the hormonal "men" with their "funky" hair). Police always on call and waiting outside - they've learnt from previous experience.
easyskip - 24 Sep 2006 10:13
Okay - so some nights you may not get in - maybe its because its too busy, you have had 1 too many at your local, or sometimes, its because you dont haveany 34DD!!!
but at the end of the day, after for sum reason not wanting our custom, you do not want 4 old bill following you half way down the high street to pull a section 60 stop and search on you....there were swarms of old bill outside anyway, i reckon 15. (section 60 is the blades act, so its obviously after the poor soul got stabbed in the head that they have finally pulled some stops out and decided to make the pub at least slightly clean of blades)

but anyway - my mate went in there - 3 notes for a cider and black, which is far too much nearly a whole note went on the black currant - FAR TOO MUCH. for a better pub, go to Lloyds
arnold - 3 Jun 2006 01:22
Agree with most... end of the day where else are you gonna go in bromley??! Its a big place, good music, hardly a que at the bar, prices are reasonable to most places now days and there's usually talent in there for single people!!

Unfortunately it has literally no competition anymore so everyone crams in which means you have to be there by 7.30 otherwise you que to get in!!
Vinny100 - 31 May 2006 14:42
I used to go here quite a bit, but havent visited for quite a while now. The prices are okay, it's always a laugh when your there with mates etc. The music is okay and the bands are okay after you've had "a few". However, I've witnessed a couple of fights in the past and got sneered at and started once for absolutely no good reason whatsoever. Still, despite these flaws, I've always enjoyed myself here.
HTM69 - 26 May 2006 22:25
Like most Walkabouts, fine for daytime drinking, but avoid in the evenings. It is a considerable improvement on the bell opposite the road though.
McDrunk - 4 Mar 2006 11:53
A lot of morons frequent this place. The idea is good but the punters let it down. Girls dressed like streetwalkers flood this place and often have my eye poked with the outrageously bad, long hair of little chavs with 6 foot high hair. Not a bad place if you want to pick up a fat little chook called "Kell" or "Shazza". Boucers are pleasant and very professional...
anonymous - 13 Sep 2005 14:20
sorry forgot to mention there ARE NO CHAVS in walkies, its the bell that attracts the druggie 12 year olds with their caps and trackies on......
law69 - 26 Aug 2005 13:07
walkabout is wicked!!!i've been going there every friday and most saturdays since it opened last June. You get to know everyone in there so theres always loads of us having a laugh. the podiums are the best place to get noticed, i guarantee me and my mates take over the podiums bout 8 and dont get off til the pub closes(or if we are pulling) which you always do in there.Much better class of blokes compared to everywhere else in bromley.Walkabout is the only place thats half decent round that here, the queue is a mile long by 7:30(which is why you need to get in with the bouncers) they are lovely by the way, bit pervy but hey thats what they're meant to be like, right!!the drinks have gone up to double the price at weekends but its still by far the best place to spend your fridays, get a late lisence walkabout!!!!!!!!!!!
law69 - 26 Aug 2005 13:02
Unbelievably popular plastic Australian bar attracting the worst elements of Bromley's chav culture. Packed to the point of discomfort on Fri/Sat nights as evidenced by the astonishing queues. Not one for the adults amongst you.
juliatheakston - 31 Jul 2005 17:20
Good place to go to start a night out. Get there no later than 8 to aviod the huge queue, which is rediculious. only decent place in bromley with good music, good atmosphere and doesn't look like a dump.
sam_05 - 6 Jun 2005 18:58
Cheap drinks.... fit birds.... quality music.... no long que for bar!! -> wha more do u want!!

-> Get there for about 7.15-7.30 latest to avoid queing on a friday!!
Vinny100 - 3 Jun 2005 09:45
The Walky is Ledge! The least chaviest place in bromley so don't no what you lot are talking about. Music is wicked your guaranteed a good laugh. The Walkabout is the only decent bar/pub in bromley and the long ques are proof of this.
anonymous - 25 May 2005 14:13
RIGHT,.. WALKABOUT, like all pubs has its fair share of truble, BUT, it is the ONE desent place to go in bromley till about 10.15 at night then i recomend going to the greyhound opersit the odean.(if u go greyhound b there b4 10.30 as the doors get shut)
I love this PUB(walkabout) it has wicked atmosphere and the booze is cheeper then the bell. They have a good D.J(which is hard for me to say when im dateing the greyhounds D.J) but it is true. lol. THE Q is abit long, so get there at about 7 for garenteed entry! overall, WICKED PUB!!!!
Lem - 23 May 2005 19:39
Interesting
Antipodean bar in a nice area full of scum from the surrounding area and no Southern Hempisphere people to be seen
Was this a joke or is the walkabout chain stupid
Chav city central
darken - 16 May 2005 16:48
too many chavs in here. music is good, drink is ch4eap. nice atmosphere though. but the queue needs to be sorted out!
ashleyc - 5 Apr 2005 14:04
What on earth has happened to this place? Walkabouts are normally fun places. This dump is a war zone, full of Chavs. If you want to pull Vicky Pollard types. This is the place for you.
halfbee - 7 Mar 2005 13:49
I've heard good things about walkabout, but each time I turn up the queue is too big & I end up going to the bell accross the road!!!

Anyone know what time the queues start? might try & get there early one sat nite!!!!
ClaireD - 26 Jan 2005 15:59
Massive queues unless you get there ridiculously early. No, really. This is probably due to the fact that it is the only decent place to go in Bromley these days, with the exception of O'Neill's. Nice bar staff, good atmosphere.
Lucie_Lu - 18 Jan 2005 14:00
It can get too crowded and you have to queue for about half hour if you get there after 6! but the drink is reasonably cheap and the music is good! all aged people and good atmosphere! ;)
anonymous - 2 Dec 2004 13:58
allways way too crowded, good music sometimes... but thats about it.
mike - 5 Nov 2004 14:01
Too crowded, too hot and full of teenagers, especially leery young boys, but cheap drink, OK for the odd drink at the beginning of the night before moving on elsewhere.
Lara - 20 Oct 2004 14:04
No decent beers - just loads of lagers and Tetley smoothflow. Food good though.
Leslie - 23 Sep 2004 10:45
Was OK when it first opened. Now you have to get in there by 4pm or queue for an hour just to spend the night with a load of 17 year olds. Good cheap Aussie beer but is it worth the hassle...NO.
Alex - 15 Sep 2004 17:32
Superb! I wud highly recommend to everyone. Bouncers are strict on id keeping out the kids, and they also keep a strong presence about the place inside to prevent any trouble. Drink is cheap, loadsa TVs everywhere(even in toilets!) and they play a good mix of music to suit all. Best pub in Bromley by a mile. Tigers Head will surely go out of business soon judging by the ques for Walkabout, jus confirming its overall excellent appeal to all.
Tommy D - 30 Aug 2004 22:46
But is it really worth quing past the tomfooly for-i don't think so. Has little atmosphere as well because of its size.
Lucy - 28 Jul 2004 17:07
loving walkabout in bromley... not only is it cheap and strict as to not let in any "little kids" but great music enough seating and a wicked night out! shame it cant get a late night license til 1 though! check out the sports nights as atmosphere is fun and the live band nights too!
natalie - 12 Jul 2004 21:27
Went there last nyt, the best nyt out in a long time. Bouncers friendly, strict on id, loadsa space to dance, hundreds of tv screens it seems, gorjus toilets, no chavs, get served quickly, cannot be faulted apart from the queueing. And all of this witnessed while sober, must be heaven when drunk. Easily THE best pub/bar in bromley.
Jules - 19 Jun 2004 14:12
Was stopped by a giant kangaroo today who informed me Walkabout is opening on 10th June. Will keep everyone updated
Julesy - 1 Jun 2004 23:11
Anyone know when Walkabout is opening? Cant bloody wait
Jules - 26 May 2004 20:06
'Garys' was great for watching the footy, let's just hope they keep the big screens for Euro 2004, Meat pie sauage roll, come on England give us a goal.
The Wagger - 22 Apr 2004 13:27
completley run by rude boys in caps!! No way is this an over 21s bar either... Ive known 15 yr olds to get in here! But still quite a few fit birds dancing... shame you get the people who just want to stand on the stage and not bother dancing!! Have to be drunk to enter here
Dan - 6 Feb 2004 11:37
The comment above seems exactly *not* a great pub for me. I want good beer, relaxed atmosphere where I can talk to my friends without shouting. Suppose I'd better go to the Partridge then...
anonymous - 4 Jul 2003 13:51
True during the day its great but in the evenings soveriegn, rings, ralph lauren, Polo shirts, french crops etc. And its opposite the most Lary pub in the world....the Bell!
Adam F - 3 Mar 2003 17:52
If you are looking for cheap drink and a fun night out look no further. Hours of entertainment laughing at the Bromley boys (how do they manage to all wear matching shirts all on the same night?)
Debbie - 9 Aug 2002 15:40
Nice pub, great relaxed atmosphere during the day and good food. Tends to succumb to the kids of Bromley by Friday night. Nice big screen TV though.
Paul H - 29 Jul 2002 12:56
Its a great pub full of fit birds, good music, live dj's/bands, lots of quiz/arcade machines, foosball table and cheap cocktails!
Dave - 17 Jul 2002 16:23
Slags and Sluts with great music and cheap alcohol!!
