Boat Inn, Catherine De Barnesback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
A Chef & Brewer establishment so you know what you are going to get - very middle of the range, a good choice of decent but unexciting food and a surprisingly good couple of ales on when we visited - Bath Ales' Dark Side went down well. Absoutely packed to the gills of an early Spring sunday and welcome as we negotiated the distance between Olton and Lapworth on the Grand Union Canal.

It's okay. The beer is average, the food's alright (but not much lunchtime choice), the service is standard, it's clean, it's reasonably priced if not great value. It's every mid-range chain pub you've ever been in.

I've always enjoyed my many visits to The Boat. OK, so it's a Chef & Brewer but it's better than most others and I've always enjoyed what I've had there. It's a quite impressive old building (a former coaching Inn?) staffed by friendly and helpful people in my experience. Although they obviously concentrate on the food side of the business, there are plenty of places to enjoy a drink. Can't remember what I drank during my last visit (London Pride?) but I remember enjoying it. 8/10

The pub has a fantastic atmosphere and unlike many pubs i go to the staff actually seem like they enjoy working here!
I would reccomend to anyone!!!!
Fantastic food and brilliant tasting beer. We visited on friday and it was packed out, obviously very popular. The managers were gently mingling with the customers making sure the visit was enjoyable.
Obviously and very cared for pub by the management and the community.
Should be visited by all.

Visited here on Boxing Day. Despite being busy, the service was quick and pleasant. A nice range of beers and excellent food.
I was particularly impressed by the fact that the majority of the pub is a no smoking area - smokers are catered for in a smaller, comfortable, area next to the log fire.
I was intending to rate this pub with a score of 7, but after reading the last anonymous post dated 25/4/05, I've decided to give it an 8. The menu is extensive enough for a pub of its size and already caters sufficiently well for vegetarians. The "flexibility" which the previous poster demands would come at a cost for which the rest of us would have to pay. As for the gripe that a little precious child had to eat new potatoes rather than chips, words fail me! Might I suggest that the child in question be taught good manners and eating habits, or alternatively that in future it is fed in "Little Chef" type establishments. (And before you ask, yes, I do have children of my own.).

A wholly unsatisfactory experience, not because the food is bad, simply the place is completely inflexible and have no desire to provide the customer with what they want. The place refused point blank to provide a meal off the menu without the meat to suit one of our party who is vegetarian and refused to substitute chips for new potatoes for one of my children - pathetic
