user reviews of the Walkabout, Wolverhampton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This place hasnt been reviewed for nearly 2 years and contrary to the last reviews I can think of lots of bad things to say about it. It is undergoing a refurbishment in one room at the moment so it may well change but. Its a tatty, sticky floor(even on a Wednesday) place with a mixture of comfortable seating at the back of the main room and high tables with bar stools in the front part. Everywhere looks dated and would be seriously improved by turning the bright lights off. Cheap and nasty decorations on the wall dont help. It does have loads of TV screens and was probably heaving later on when the Chelsea vs Barca game started. Nothing of any interest on the bar with Carling being 2.75 which is a bit steep for the worst lager in the world. Its a bit of a dump to be honest, in fact its the worst Walkabout that Ive ever been in and that takes some doing for a chain of poor bars.

staff always great, decent prices and a massive projector screen for sports. they always have loads of different channels on to. nice outdoor area for the summer, currently they seem to be re-doing the floor which was looking a bit worn.

Walkabout Wolves is looking very tired and worn now and does not seem as busy But please do not let me detract you. I really cannot think of a bad thing about this bar apart from the cramped toilets and worn drabness, the staff appear to be well trained and polite and to whom i belive is the manager is very customer aware, A small refurbish and sort out the tvs and this place can be a force again. Well beens as I seem to be doing the rounds at the minute I'll make a 3rd post. I've not been in Wolverhampton for long and to be honest I've been in even less of the pubs but of the 4/5 I have been in this is by far the best. So much so in fact that I've been here 3 times now. Of the other's I've been in the RL the V the HH and the WS.

I first came in for food which when looking at the menu I thought was a bit pricey, but I ordered anyway because I was hungry.... well what a delight that was not only was it extremely well presented but it tasted superb. The staff were friendly and polite and even took the time to come and check to see if I needed more sauces bringing over what a refreshing change from all these help yourself to sauces type of venues which I seem to always gravitate too.

My beer was cold the pub was at a nice temperature and there was a beer garden, although a little smaller than the country pubs that I grew up around but it was well laid out and maintained.

My next visit was on an a Saturday night, I got held up in the queueueueueue (hehhe never get that one right) we got held up for a couple of minutes whilst the doorteam and a manager (i assume) removed a gentleman from the premises, I've never seen someone remain so calm when someone is shouting and bawling at you the manager guy just stood there and calmly explained to this guy over and over again why he had been thrown out and when the guy wouldn't move away from the door he just turned around called on a radio and about 40 seconds later the police pulled up. How sweet is that.

Inside it was rammed on 2 floors and the beer garden was open, it took a while to get served but hey you expect that sometimes but when I got there I was served quickly and correctly and again the staff were polite.

For me although it's not perfect I do like it here and as I said above in my opinion it is the best I've been in so far.

i have been going to walkabout for some years now in fact i even worked there for a while. never have i seen the door staff "kick off on an innocent bystander" if the person was becoming violent then it it is right that they should be restrained so as to prevent any harm to other innocent parties. how would you feel if the door staff stood there and did nothing whilst you were punched because you happened to be in the wrong place when that person was lashing out?

The door staff in walkabout are a disgrace! They ruin what is probabaly one of the best late night venues in Wolverhampton, drinks are cheap, music is good but the atmosphere it drastically ruined by the fact that it is very likely the doorstaff will all of a suddden decide to kick off on an innocent by stander. It has happened to myself and numerous people have told me of issues they have had. Apparently it has been the same door company for over 15 years and they have some sort of hold over the place almost sounds like a racket to me. It ruins the repututaion of the bar and the repuatation of Wolves. Not everyone in Wolves is a scumbag in fact very few are however it is almost like a self forfilling prophecy. Wolves is a great city that people should be proud of and people like this who's business operates from Birmingham shouldn't be allowed to cause so much detrement.

Awful, I got thrown out last on my friends leaving party for throwing a bottle in the bin, which was next to me, I missed it, it was an accident I went to pick it up and put it in the bin but before I got chance I was grabbed around the neck and thrown out, not asked to leave just grabbed and strangled. Disgraceful.

I was not grabbed by a bouncer but a random person, who apparenlty was a manager, I aksed to speak to him but I was refused and told to call "999", is this how you treat customers?

I was by no means drunk, I was sober, I had been drinking but not excessively, like I say it was a friends leaving do. I was trying to have a good last night.

Awful service, poorly maintained and cleaned, avoid.

walkabout in wolves is fantastic, friendly bar staff, door staff and dj's. Filled with students due to great drinks offers. The Tuesday alternative night has come a long way in just over a year, the most popular night of the week with great varied music from dj gav with a fun atmosphere. This night is never a disappointment. Great pub.

Best place to go in wolverhampton- full of students during the week and cheap wine!

walk in, walkabout, walk right out.
mrBean - 24 Jan 2005 14:05
this is most definitely the worst pub that i have ever been to. My food was served after 1 hr 30mins, incorrectly, it was brough back burnt, and so i asked for another, which also was revolting. Walkabout in general are fantastic clubs, inparticular Temple and Leicester Square, Wolverhampton leaves a lot to be desired.

Tis okay. An Australian theme bar but their idea of Aussie beer was Fosters and VB. Worth a drop in while passing thru.

Good pub with specials allday and surprisingly nice eats ...

great atmosphere on a friday nite but closes disappointingly early for my tastes
boffall - 30 May 2004 00:10
it's by far the best pub in Wolverhampton and definitely one of the best Walkabouts in the country.
anonymous - 19 May 2004 23:08
staff are friendly, helpful and good looking people who work really hard. the atmosphere is fabulous and everyone i see in there is having a really good time
Crystal - 25 Apr 2004 14:13
this pub is ace, it has a great atmosphere. nice one!
kayl - 5 Dec 2003 18:36
I have to agree. Staff are unhelpful and real jobsworths. A badly run pub that really is a disappointment to a chain with quite a good reputation.
anonymous - 29 Oct 2003 16:07
Usually a good atmosphere at the weekend once it gets kicking. Beware of the dodgy live music midweek!
