user reviews of the Embassy, Islington

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I liked it in here and thought that the chill out music went well with the dcor, although it was a little dark. The barman was extremely friendly and there was a selection of standard and premium lagers available.

There is some limited outside seating next to the main road and a few covered standing places for smokers if it is raining.

I visited on a week night so cannot comment on what it is like here during a busy weekend, but I really liked it and wouldnt hesitate in returning.

I used to like the Embassy, but my has it changed. during my last two visits there were issues with our drinks. One the first occasion, they had clearly put something cheaper in to the bottle they were serving from. Last time, they served me a vodka and cranberry sans vodka, and a whisky sour that somehow managed to be clear. When I confronted the bartender, she insisted that nothing was amiss. Either they pulled a fast one, or the owners are watering down the stock in the bottles.

5.50 for a 175 ml glass of wine?
Having a laugh or what....

So someone does the courtesy of calling you back on an enquiry, you refuse to find a quiet corner to take their call, and they're at fault for your rudeness? Franke Lambe got one fact right at least, sheesh.

Not been in a while, my girlfriend won't allow it as we first hooked up there and she was the last in a lucky streak I only ever seemed to enjoy inside this place. Must be the low lighting. Glad it's still going strong as it was one venue where even the bouncers took the time to treat you as an individual not a cash cow.

Went there for the first time in about 3 years, and all I can say is its still one of the best places in Islington by a mile. The bar has had a lick of paint and theres a downstairs which I cant remember from before. The music was good and the beer price was average. The next time Im in north London I see you there.

I visited the embassy on Saturday night and had one of the best nights out for a long time. It was a friends birthday and the staff couldn't have been more helpful!!

Everything from the drinks, the atmosphere, the friendly staff - special mention to Frank who was fantastic - and even the DJ was superb, and really made for a good night out!!!

Without doubt, if you visit this venue, you won't be disapointed

I have not had the misfortune of visitng this establishment but would like to let you know how I got on when attempting to reserve an area. I sent an email to Embassy (along with several other bars) to check availability for my birthday. I received a phone call from the "Director" Franke Lambe who I could barely understand / hear on the telephone because of the volume of noise in my office. I had to ask a couple of times where he was calling from, obviously having enquired at a few venues I wanted to be sure who I was speaking with! Anyway, after tiring of his aggresive tone and general rudeness I said "Don't worry about the enquiry thank you" to which he responded "Get your facts straight you stupid b1tch" and hung up. Nice! Wonderful customer service... I certainly won't be visiting this bar and will be telling everyone I know not to either.

Very posuer-ish crowd. A little bit too-cool-for-school.

Excellent tunes normally though.

Friday night was bloody freezing out but glad we faced the cold and went to the embassy. it was cosy upstairs and funky and happening night downstairs, whoever's birthday it was - thanks for the free shots! good vibe, cosy and funky - excellent. Does anyone know what they're doing for News Years Eve?? I reckon it will be a good night!

Had a v.good night there last Friday. Great music, great crowd and stays open later than it used to!

I know this to be a great bar but unfortunatly their choice of over vealous bouncers detracts somewhat from its loveliness.
It seems an interesting choice to fill the place to the rafters with happy drunk folk and then refuse entry to a lone female and the basis that she was a health and saftey risk. Given it's location and late opening, perhaps a little bit more of a responsible attitude would be nice.

Great quirky cool bar that gets better every time I go! Sound barstaff. Good choice of DG's that can rock downstairs and up at the weekend. Last Thursday night was a real treat there too, with the cocktails following, (you have to try the chocolate mudslide!) great music

Had a wicked couple of nights in here recently! Not only have they started doing 2 for 1 cocktails between 5-8 (check out the millennium) but there is live music on a Wednesday night to chill out to, too!!! Good vibe and the weekends are still busy but well worth the effort

Excellent pub, been drinking here on and off for the last 2 - 3 years. Fridays are perhaps a bit too packed for my liking but great atmoshphere, music, crowd and staff. Certainly one of the best pubs in the area.

Away from the obvious chain bars of Upper Street, the Embassy is a great find in Islington!! Chilled out but upbeat atmosphere, drink selection great and not too pricey, good crowd of people. Get there early.

Far too overcrowded! When are London going to limit the number of people allowed in a bar. Take a tip from New York and have the fire brigade doing the rounds checking on numbers. More bars, more room, less trouble.
