The last review of this pub was in 2014. We went there with friends last Friday - what a revelation! Pub was crowded with diners and drinkers - Butty Bach and HPA on the pumps for starters. Great food, good price and very pleasant staff. Looked like the place is really thriving - great! Will definitely revisit!

How long has the B&B been closed? I drove past, this morning, and it was boarded up. I used to drink here, regularly, 20 years ago, but a visit a few years ago was disappointing and we didn't go back.

The Bell & Bear was better than the Lighthouse down the hill. Like the Lighthouse, there was only one other customer, other than the bar staff. The pub is set below the road and you feel like you're in a village pub in a quiet village, until you take in the urban/industrial landscape from the window at the rear. The pub is quaint inside and out and was serving 3 ales - Timothy Taylor Landlord, Enville Ale & Adnams Broadside. More importantly for me, they also had Thatchers Heritage cider. We didn't try the food, apart from a bag of Pork Crunch and some spicy pretzels. Worth a visit.

I'd go here often to have a pint but recognising that its not all about the beer it is worth mentioning that the place has problems. This used to be a great pub but it's going down hill, becoming dingy and in need of a good clean up.
The place had a good reputation for food and unfortunately a lot of infrequent visitors are in for a shock. The food is terrible - possibly the worst pub food I've ever had. The menu choice is good and the pricing is ok to high but the food quality is very very poor and often badly cooked. Frankly my advice is to avoid the food here and get some chips either the olympia or the our plaice. The chinese takeaway down the hill is also ok.
The beer selection remains very good and there's a good crowd of drinkers with a safe and friendly atmosphere. Still the best pub in the area for a pint of ale.
The Thursday night quiz gets a good attendance (starts about 8pm) which is good if you like quizzes and terrible if you like to chat over a pint.

We regulary visit the Bell and Bear and we Recently held a 50th birthday at this pub and would like to say how fantastic the whole afternoon and evening was. The staff were very friendly and willing to help making sure that the whole afternoon/evening ran smoothly. Thebuffet we chose was lovely and there was plenty for all. We woud recommend this pub to people and we will def be recommending to our friends and family.

I have visited The Bell and Bear several times with family. The food is always really enjoyable with plenty to choose from on the menu. This is a 'proper' pub with plenty of character and a nice atmosphere with nice friendly staff. The garden is second to none and I am yet to find another pub in the area with such a large, well kept garden with views for miles. Will definately be returning in the future.

WE WENT HERE WED/ 10 2010 IT'S QUITE SMELLY AND IN VERY DESPERATE NEED OF REPAINTING AND CLEANING. MY STEAK AND ALE PIE WAS GRISSLY AND TOPPED WITH A VERY COLD PUFF PASTRY THAT HAD BEEN COOKED SEPERATELY AND PLONKED ON TOP BUT THE GRAVY WAS NICE, MY FRIEND'S LASAGNE HA HA HA! WAS VERY DRY COOKED MINCED MEAT TOPPED WITH CHEESE , NOT A BIT OF PASTA OR TOMATO IN SIGHT.ON THE PLUS SIDE THE YOUNG GIRLS SERVING WERE FRIENDLY ONE ASKED HOW OUR FOOD WAS BUT WALKED OFF BEFORE WE COULD ANSWER, MY ADVICE --THERE'S LOADS OF EATING PLACES OUT THERE GO TO ONE OFF THEM INSTEAD

I am a frequent visitor to the Bell and Bear along with a lot of my family and friends, i have always been impressed with the quality of the food. There is always a good choice of menu and special offers. I normally go for either a steak or homemade meal and have never been disappointed. The food has always been of excellant quality and well presented. The staff have always been very welcoming polite and friendly, both bar staff and waitresses are very good.
Excellent food, excellent quality ales as well, welcoming, pleasant atmosphere, and its a traditional old fashioned pub, the way they should be, are the main reasons i keep returning to this wonderful pub.
I highly recommend a visit and am sure you wont be disappointed.

We have eaten at the Bell and Bear on numerous occasions and have never had a bad meal. There was a good range of food on the menu catering for all people in our party - Traditional Meals, Vegetarian, Steak Lovers etc. The service we received throughout our meal was warm and welcoming. I find the pub traditional, warm and cosy. Would recommend the pub to all.

Have visited this pub twice and both times been unimpressed flat beer dark damp rooms with dirty carpets and rude management was heard whispering about customers would not recomend this place unless you want to feel depressed.

Ate there this lunchtime which was a big mistake. I had the mixed grill and most of the meat was rancid and the salad brown. I told who I presume was the landlady and she ofered no apology whatsoever. She said the meat was fresh in every day. I walked out in disgust but I wish I had made her try some of it and watch her gag.
Thankfully environmental health had more sympathy and will be visiting their premises soon.
She could have prevented this comment been posted by at least offering some apology. I didnt expect a refund but I did expect her to take my comments seriously.
Avid this place if you dont want food poisoning!

Nice atmosphere. 7 differant Cask Ales on, and very tasty. The meal we enjoyed was well cooked well presented and the manageress and staff were very helpful and friendly. Recommend to anyone who wants a decent pint, meal and value for money.

Must say I disagree with the previous post...you do not have to be 'one of the in crowd' I work at the Bell and Bear and have done for 4 1/2 years and although we have alot of regulars we also have alot of non-regulars who overall seem impressed with the extensive menu, 7 cask ales and huge garden we have to offer.

Nice pub, good range of beers and seems popular for food. Problem is the witch that runs it. You have to be one of the in crowd to be accepted there.
