Walked past a few times but first time I have timed it when open.
Lovely country pub. You know the sort of thing, stone floors, ancient furniture, low ceilings.
Excellent Hooky was one of four ales available.
Food looked popular.

Not very busy today but not unsurprising for the first Sunday of the year. I think they wondered why we were there out of caravanning season - perhaps they only usually get holidaymakers or locals from the village. Anyway the pub was perfectly friendly and served very good Black Sheep and Bass. Cider was Thatchers Gold. We weren't there to eat but they serve traditional pub food with most main courses around £8-9 and 3 courses for £9.95 on a Sunday! Open all day every day from noon.

Popular enough on Wednesday night with both diners and drinkers. Low beemed ceilinged pub with whitwashed walls and built in bench seating round the walls and flagged floor. There is a stripped stone walled, carpeted and low beemed ceilinged dining room down a step to the right, but food also seemed to be served in the room off the bar to the left. The central room around the bar with inglenook fireplace thankfully more for drinkers.
Hobgoblin and Black Sheep both very good and the atmosphere was very friendly and chatty. Nice pub.
Stayed at the campsite behind and there is a good walk from there along the river into Bidford on Avon.

Great little old fashioned pub - the way all pubs should be (in my opinion). I have family in the area and they all swear by this place and therefore I have been there 15-20 times now.
Beer selection isn't the greatest I must admit, and the pub can get unbelievably cramped on a busy summer night, but it's the sort of place where you dont mind these things - also if you are over 6ft, as I am, expect to have to duck a fair bit with the very low ceilings and beams!
You'll end up having conversations with everyone in the pub - all the locals I have encountered have been more than friendly and welcoming, as have the landlord and lady and you'll wish you never had to leave after an evening of good food and good conversation.

Went there with my girlfriend on the say-so of a friendly gentleman in the Royal Oak at Whatcote, which incidentally served me a very decent pint of Hook Norton's Inspired.
Food was excellent. We enjoyed a 20 oz Sea Bass ( my first taste of it! ) on the first night and Beef Wellington ( which was also very tasty for someone who's not keen on beef )on our second visit.
The Hook Norton Bitter was a bit insipid, though well kept but the Spitfire was first-class.
I would advise anyone in the area to pay a visit.It's a small place but it appears to be having a burgeoning reputation with the locals. It has a campsite behind it too, which, I have no doubt, will add to the congestion.
Oh, and they also do a bar menu where most of the items are under a tenner.
Finally, beware Dean! He's liable to talk you into a sweet you have no room for (delicious and competitively priced though they are at �3.40 a shot )
On a final note, a local family bade us goodnight and a " see you next week" ! If only!!!

Friendly local pub with great beer with long heritage, bur recently run down by bad health of two successive tenants.
Now run by Dean & Liz with great enthusiasm, and, provided they are given the support by Punch Taverns that they deserve, will match or exceed past glories of food, drink and welcome.
Draft Hook Norton Bitter & Shepherd Neame Spitfire, and food when Punch Taverns finish the kitchens!
