I really liked this place. Great atmosphere, with movie memorabilia everywhere, family friendly, and cheap food. Only drawback is the unexciting range of beers. However, they do have three casks, and one of those is Landlord, so it's not a complete beer disaster. Pub meals for around £6. Children's meals. Stage in the front corner for live bands. Great music even when there isn't band. Wacky old Eighties computer games in the back room. Hundreds of Star Wars figures, especially behind the bar (count them all!). Beer garden at the back, which is a back yard for smokers than a proper garden - but it's there. Bags of character. Pub sprawls around a central horseshoe bar. Odd shaped wooden tables. Very relaxed. Good vibe.

Awesome pub with Star Wars figures behind the bar and a selection of retro games consoles setup!

Beers are good, standard selection, has live music on occasion and other events.

Has live sport on also.

Southampton city centre's best pub. Good beers well kept. Reasonable beer garden. This pub is the best place to watch football matches on the big screens. You can sometimes get a quiet pint - but often very lively at the weekend in the evenings. Landlord is a film nut - so interesting movie memorabilia around the place.

Along with The Red Lion in Bedford Place, this is my favourite pub in Southampton. Ales kept immacultely, particularly Timothy Taylor Landlord. Quite pricey, but then again, I'm happy to pay good money for a better than good pint!

Good comfortable back street boozer, friendly staff and good beer. Ringwoods best.

Back-street local with two rooms and a dozen or so picnic tables in the paved yard out the back.

I popped in at school chucking-out time and was almost the only customer. A pint of Ringwood's Best Bitter cost 3, served in good condition. Food not sampled.

I have to say, this is probably the best pub in Southampton at the moment. Good selection of local and regional beer that is well looked after, warm and friendly landlord and staff, fantastic beer garden with a BBQ and the jukebox piping music out to you, good menu with tasty pub grub, decent customers too- never seen any trouble despite regular weekend visits. Not to be missed if you're in the area.

I've found precious few pubs in Southampton to get excited about but this one is definitely one of the better ones. London Pride, Landlord and other ales on draught (a tad expensive, but thats Southampton). Good staff and a good atmosphere. I'll be returning.

I come to the alex all the time and find it a really friendly place. the staff are always smiling and make u feel welcome, they have a great selection of drinks. tried sailor jerry rum the other nite. think i have found my new fave tipple!. i like the way it caters for all types of customers and the beer garden is amazing!. have been to lunch a few times and there is a nice selection and the chef obviously loves his job cuz the food tastes great. i always try to bring friends to the pub so they can sample everything, may try to drag them to the next quiz on a sunday!. great pub and great atmosphere. wooo!

I came in for the quiz night last week and was quite surprised, nicely surprised. It is all free and we ended up with 2 rounds of shots, tshirts, bottle openers, hip flasks, usb sticks. And we won and got 2 bottles of wine and a poker set. WOW comes to mind. I don't think i will miss anymore thats for sure. Also they are giving away free tickets to global gathering which will end my festival season quite nicely.

Great Pub. Went to try their homemade burger, wow now that was an experience. My partner had the special on, lamb and mint burger, with real mint sauce. It was a lovely meal and will be sure to mention this gem to all my friends. Oh and we ate in the huge beer garden they had, even had music out there, i love this pub.

Never been to this pub till the other night (Saturday), had a leaving do with some mates who drink there all the time. Impressed! Can't remember the last time I was able to enjoy myself as much in a PUB. Being served without waiting for ages was refreshing, even tho it seemed like they were packed. As a smoker, the huge beer garden is perfect. The juke box is piped out there and the bbq was still goin when we left about half 10. Great night. Be back for sure.

Whilst I agree this is a nice pub in terms of the offer and the setting, its somewhat spoilt by its appartent 'clickiness' In my opinion, the pub is very much geared to the needs of locals rather than new visitors. Not sure if its the Landlord or Manager, but he has a very odd approach to customer service, particularly towards middle aged women, he appeared to go out of his way to make them feel unwelcome!

We're frequent visitors to this pub - shows football on lots of screens, good atmosphere during a match. the bar staff are friendly (although one has personal hygiene issues)and there's a comprehensive selection of lager. It's a proper town drinking pub with wooden floors, good decor and atmosphere. NICE glasses, free table football, big beer garden, a pool table and good juke box. What more could you ask for.

Amazing fun. Went here on a friday night. Wow the barstaff are gorgeous. Great Jukebox. And they were playing films in the background, Fear and loathing if i am right in remembering. Brilliant. Amazing array of things to look at behind the bar, the landlord must be a huge star wars fan. Great shot selection, i had a few.... Also was so impressed went in to sample the food on the sunday and i had a roast and my girlfriend had a Homemade lasagne, safe to say i won't be drinking or eating in any other pub. Thank god and the Alex for true traditional pubs like this for still being around.

This is a fab place to drink! a little something to suit all preferences. nice quiet drink mid week or pre-club venue on the weekend. excellent juke box and wide selection of drinks. landlord Jo and manager Kris are very friendly and welcoming.

I have been going to the Alex only since the landlord has taken over and i have been very impressed. His new ideas including Film Nights are now being talked about all over Southampton, i have been to 2 of them, Sin City and Scarface and they really were great, projector and the atmosphere was incredible. I like the landlords ideas as he is not changing the general feel and traditional pub that the Alex is famous for.

The food is excellent since the menu has been updated, i ate a while ago and it wasn't up to much but now, very tasty and very fairly priced.

I will continue to frequent this pub as it really is the best traditional pub in town and the new landlord and staff REALLY make you feel welcome. Roll on the next film night.

Decent pub, plenty of signs up warning kids, and adults with kids that it's a no-go zone, which is always a good thing.

My local. Love this pub. Just sit at the bar with my mates and enjoy the good selection of beers and lager. Good Juke box and quiz machine. Darts board and table football, nice outside seating and very nice food. Sky Sports has returned to the pub after a short time away. And the barmaids are very nice.

Quiet pub, just off the main street. Has a big screen, beer garden and decent real ales. Good pub to go and have a mid-week chinwag with your mates.
