The pub is set in beautiful Devon countryside way off the tourist trail.

We walked up from Bickleigh (and back) and were in need of some refreshment.

Pub is pleasant and cosy, however the beer was a little iffy (I think my otter bitter may have been a little off) and the Sunday roast a disappointment .

Maybe they were just having a bad day.

Would go back and give it another bash a the pub and area are really quite charming.

6/10

After a quick visit to the Rose & Crown in Calverleigh (not listed on here), I moved onto the Cadeleigh Arms. I was the only customer in this village pub. But the landlady was friendly and we soon established that she had run a few pubs in my local area. Exeter Avocet Ale, Otter Bright & St Austell Tribute were the 3 ales on offer.

Re-opened late last year as a community-owned pub rather than its previous incarnation as a gastro-pub (someone else's description as this was my first visit). Upon entering you walk into a flagstoned bar with settles and pine furniture with two dining areas to the left and rear (both with more pine furniture and inexpensive-looking plain carpets). There is also a pool table in a back room. Quiet on Sunday lunchtime with a few people in the sloped beer garden (nice flower beds and views). Ales on offer were Gales Seafarer, Dartmoor Legend and St Austell Tribute but my choice this time was a good pint of Sunnybrook from the village cidery. Great care was taken over a Pimms which was excellent. Under £10 for most main courses but we were only stopping for a quick drink. Friendly welcome. Pubs in Bickleigh were too busy so this was a perfectly acceptable alternative and we would re-visit if nearby.

I have eaten here on serveral occassions over the last 4 years and have always found the food to be of a really good quality, using fresh local ingredients which change on a daily basis.

The manageress referred to in vdavison's review has since left, but I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful, yes they do employ local students to waitress who cannot serve behind the bar, but there is always someone of legal age on hand to serve drinks.

Cosy atmosphere with proper wood fire burning all year, changing wine list written on the board, and a variety of local ales and ciders.

Not a pub for people who like cheap food served in a cheap enviroment or who don't appreciate where their food comes from!

My husband took me here for a Valentines dinner. He had phoned before hand to discuss the menu and general theme of the evening. A fixed 3 course dinner with a glass of fizz on arrival. So far so good!

As soon as we arrived we felt like we had been transported into a farce with a double act of scary headmistress meets worst mother in law - 'Bossy & Stroppy".

The evening was clearly not going to be the lovely relaxed romantic dinner we were hoping.

So, on to the food and service. Freezing cold dinning room and a waitress who couldn't serve us drinks because of her age - very Tesco's! The service was brisling and you soon felt like you were to be in and out quick.

I had pate to start which was OK but rather surprised at the mean portion of shop bought sliced wholemeal.

The pork belly and dauphinoise main was fabulous, melt in the mouth but why a side dish of unseasonal veg?

Pudding OK blah blah.

Oh but the wine! There was no wine list, it was all in Stroppy or was that Bossy's head and no prices. I don't know about you but I like to peruse a wine list and as it was not part of the fixed price meal I couldn't understand why we were not allowed choice and I don't like being dictated to either.
So we gambled on a Shiraz which was a brand you can find in your local Spar!!!! Extraordinary!

So in the 'Come dine with me' way I give this evening a 2.

No surprise to see that this pub is now up for sale.

Surgical removal of character to create some Londoner's idea of what a trendy country-yet-contemporary pub should be. Incredible aura of smugness, yet food and service are well below par. A tragic waste of a good building - the locals must be crying into their beer (in another pub somewhere).

Could be a great pub, but service is unfriendly, the bar and restaurant for a friday night were empty, the locals don't use it anymore and I now see why. Food was good but no ambience, I won't be going again.

Visited this pub with friends had a beautiful meal sat near the open inglenock fire. Fall of locals and people who live of the local area. Venison stew a must. Beer prices good, believe they do real ales although I don't drink it myself. The road up to this pub is very steep would not like to walk it. Car takes its self home down hill. need to watch on very sharp bends.

A great little pub with pool table.
Food is served at lunch time, and 7-9 evenings except Sunday.
