Decent honest to goodness boozer. Down to earth and decent service. Very good Guinness as well.

I liked the feel of this pub, and the look of it. Must go back.

Is the Orchard under new management ?

Always had the potential to be a good pub this, but previous owners weren't up to much.

Happily this is no longer the case. I nipped in on Sunday, had a lovely Sunday Roast. The barmaid was friendly, recommending the beef when I was undecided what to have. (It didn't hurt that both women working there were very easy on the eye.)

Just what I need. More reasons to go to the pub.

Just moved into the surrounding area, this is my new local. Popped in there on Sunday, the Roast Dinners they served were beautiful, good traditional plate, will definitely go for a return trip to see what the atmosphere is like!

Quite a livley scene in here back in the late 70's when we lived over the way. Neil was the manager - great varied crowd of regulars. Been back since, not quite the same.

Popped in mid-afternoon on Tuesday after hearing there were a couple of cask beers being served a week or so ago.

The place is comfortable enough, and the mid-afternoon punters - several senior citizens and a couple of lads in paint-spattered working gear - were ordering lager and Guinness from a good-natured barman. A lone female sat at the bar with a Bacardi Breezer, the last of several judging from her co-ordination...

There was one cask beer available Shepherd Neame Spitfire which was served thro' a sparkler which I didn't notice until the glass was full. However, it tasted cared-for if unnaturally "smooth" but it cost an eye-watering 2.90. I'd probably have stayed for another if the price had been 30 or 40p cheaper...

The place is decorated inside as it is outside, with mock half-timbering in dark wood, and amazingly it is not as naff as it sounds. Posters advertising various karaoke events line the walls. Not my cup of tea, but if you like that sort of thing then check this place out. All in all the place had, at the time of my visit, the general air of a rather superior working mens' club.

A quibble: an annoyingly random juke box clicked into play at odd intervals despite no-one seeming to feed it. The volume was set just loud enough to be intrusive & the distorted booming bass was definitely irritating. Sort it out landlord!

Food was available and looked like the traditional sort of pub offerings. I'd already eaten otherwise I might have been tempted. I'll return and follow up by trying the food, and checking if the beer range varies, and report again. When I'm feeling rich.

Cheers,

No, Clarabel, what we need is a good MIXTURE of drinking places, some smart, and some more basic.

I ONLY come here if I am sh1tfaced and I am never let down by my expectations, divey and chavvy. and thank GOD I do not need to go on the pull. I know that the manager at the Glamorgan aims for the opposite type of clientele that is attracted over the road. The Karaoke is a jokey :) why spend money on a refit when it was still decorated as a chavvy pub - they ain't gonna bring money to the area, we need more SMART drinking places, decent drinks and menu and I would be willing to pay a bit more.

This is a very old haunt of mine and I must admit I did used to enjoy going here years back but then after it had the Refit it all went downhill. They do still have entertainment here but 9 Times Out Of Ten it is Shite Shame as years back they had a great Karaoke and Disco Here and it used to be a fantastic Night.

Its a dive bar. Sometimes its fun to go to a dive bar. Most of the time it isn't. Don't go here if you want to enjoy a beer.
carsonspost - 12 Apr 2007 14:43
I should point out that it was a customer, not the staff, who asked the offensive question.
stevet37 - 27 Mar 2007 10:02
When you are asked "Who the **** are you?" when you have innocently popped in to watch the football, you know that this is a place to avoid. There are several vastly better pubs nearby.

The worst pub in this area, by a long way. Unfriendly, even threatening at times, and I wonder if the sign promising "a fine selection of real ales" breaches any trading laws, as there is only London Pride on sale, and this is generally of poor quality.
sgt37 - 2 Dec 2006 12:04
This bar has not improved under the new management and the locals seem to be running the pub now instead of the management. Could be a great pub with the right manager

Ultimately very friendly although intimidating on entry. Disappointing real ale selection (only Pride). Juke box, pool and darts - good fun in a run down place.
richiewright - 9 Oct 2006 18:35
Despite the sign promising a "selection of real ales" only London Pride (in relatively poor condition) is available.
Somewhat threatening atmosphere at times, especially in the public bar.

We stumbled upon this place one saturday night after watching the GB v Aus rugby match in the pub accross the road (The Grouse & Claret) and if I am honest had The Grouse not had an awful band torturing our ears with their renditions of queen etc we would not have even visited The Orchard due to the fact that half of the customers/Staff telling us how rough it was but after plucking up the courage to have a looksy for ourselves we're glad to say we were surprised by how much we enjoyed ourselves the place was a badly in need of a refit and the toilets were awful but to be fair the beer was great and the disco was great so I would mark this place as

Decor/Toilets 3/10 - Badly Needs Re-Fit
Customers/Staff 10/10 - Very Friendly,Did Not Get Any Hassle Whatsoever.

Atmosphere 10/10 - Great Music

Beer 8/10 - Not The Best Pint But Not The Worst Either
