Slithered precariously across the very slippery causeway (the Voss) a couple of times from Noss Mayo to visit this great little boozer. Food looked and smelled good, even though I never ate and the beer looked good, too, but I drank cider the times I went in. Doesn't look all that from the outside (my wife took some persuading to get her in the door!), but it has a warm and friendly interior.

New owners moved in May, a fresh lick of paint, a fire in the grate, laid back tunes have created a great atmosphere to enjoy this cracking little pub. Great ales on and fresh genuinely local food on the menu. This pub with its views of the Yealm is one of the best in the area.

I attend this pub twice a year (so a total of four weeks) as I have family that live here and over in Noss Mayo. The good points are great views, great locals and good food. The downside is Badger beer (be it well kept) I just do not like it. However they do sell a decent pint of Stowford Press cider!
I prefer this to the Ship (too pretentious) and the Swan (dead) and don't even ask about the Yealm yacht club!!!!!!

My husband and I visited this beautiful area for the first time at the weekend. Not only did we get glorious weather, stunning scenery, and an exceptionally warm welcome from the pub staff; we blissfully enjoyed an afternoon on the beer terrace being impeccably attended to, overlooking the sparkling river Yealm with a chilled glass or two of my favourite wine. Top marks from us.

Fabulous location, excellent staff and in my humble opinion, an outstanding selection of posh pub grub. Have to strongly disagree with Eddieed below as I think it's by far the best service and the best fish pie in the area! I've spent the last few days in town and always ended up at the Dolphin for the friendly atmosphere. The Ship was far too impersonal and commercially minded. I'm looking forward to sailing through Newton again in the summer!

Disappointing...Nice Location, good beer. Food was the issue, first time I have ever felt ripped off after eating in a pub. A dish described as a prawn platter (7)turned out to be a Prawn Cocktail, made with frozen prawns which according to the Landlady is how prawns come...when you can see the sea from the pub!!! Main course, a chicken dish at 11 when served turned out to be a leg, at this price I expect a Breast. In our opinion you are much better off at the far superior Ship over on the other side of the Harbour, the beer and views are just as good if not better and the service and food are miles ahead.

Got to agree with John, this pleasant boozer doesn't deserve to be overshadowed by the more famous Ship Inn across the way - they're both excellent, lookinf forward to trying the Swan next time I'm down that way

At least as good as the other two pubs in Noss that are already listed!! Is on "this" side of the river - the Swan and the Ship are on the other side.
Good food, good beer, relatively young crowd
