The Bricklayers Arms was our second Joules pub in Shrewsbury. We preferred the Dolphin. The Bricklayers is a bigger pub with 2 or 3 different rooms. Pale, Blonde & Slumbering Monk were the 3 Joules ales. There were no guests available (one Springhead pumpclip was turned) and no real cider either. Although I understand that one had recently run out. Features an older crowd than the Dolphin. Many were here for their Sunday lunch.

Now fully open and well worth the wait,beer is great and the whole place just smacks of class,well worth a visit because you will want to return time and time again,if not for the atmospher,then for the prices,a lot less than the pubs in town.
been told that a basic food offer is about start and they are getting some trips out organised,to the brewery and a day at the races,etc.
Three Joules beers on handpull,all brewed in Market Drayton,so its not had to travel far,Slumbering monk 4.5,Joules pale ale 4.1 and Joules blond 3.8,all very tasty and have their own distinct flavours,well worth a try,my favourite is the pale ale

Please ignore all derogatory reviews regarding this pub from 2010 and earlier. It reopened a few months ago after it was sold by Punch taverns (nuff said) and acquired by Joules Brewery (just proving that there is a god). Low and behold, after years of decline and neglect, it has now opened as a proper pub. And what a great pub it is. Good beer, friendly atmosphere and lots of customers (all of whom appeared to be over 18). Well worth a visit. Long may it survive and prosper.

If you are thinking of going to The Bricklayers, don't bother. Went in this evening,wish I hadn't. Two roomed pub, one room all in darkness, the other with music so loud you couldn't think. Asked for the Black Sheep, told it was off. Then asked for the M&B Mild, guess what? Told it was off. This just left the Bombadier. Asked for a half, but the music being so loud, and the barmaid being so thick, was given a pint. Then just before she finished pulling it the barrel ran out and I had to wait 5 minutes while they changed it. Took it outside to the "beer garden" as it was a nice night, only to be confronted by a man who can only be called The Village Idiot, who harangued me for 5 minutes about the General Election, and Chelsea winning the Premiership. As I said at the start, don't bother.

This pub is on BITE twice, so I'll post a review on each. In total contrast to the Bull in the Barne nearby, this pub was empty when I called in at 7.30 last night. It's a two roomed pub, but one room was in darkness. The room I was in had a dartboard and some comfortable seating round the outside of the room along with tables and stools. Three handpumps but only Bombardier was actually on. It was a decent pint. The landlady told me that she also has Draught Bass on at busier times and used to have London Pride as well (how can you tell it's owned by Punch). Sadly trade now dictates that she can only support one beer at a time. It's a nice enough pub, but it looks to be struggling at the moment.

This has gone back to its original name of the Bricklayers Arms. The "jungle" paintings have disappeared so you can look at it without cringing, it's a normal local again.
