Don’t go in here if you have health problems that require you to watch what or how much you have to drink. Be careful if you’re a type-1 diabetic or potentially getting screened for cancer - you may need to drink till you die!

Don’t go in here if you have health problems that require you to watch what or how much you have to drink. Landlord swung at a Crohn’s sufferer because it wanted them to drink more. Be careful if you’re a type-1 diabetic or potentially getting screened for cancer - you may need to drink till you die!

Dear general public and live music fans i dare not repeat the reason but please avoid this hole its a tucking killing machine !

I went to this pub last night, me and my party arrived and sat down. We was waiting for everyone to get in before get drinks (two were outside smoking). We were chilling out, enjoying the music, then suddenly the landlord comes up and says "you need to buy a drink or get out". I was shocked, we had been in there not 5 minutes.

I understand he expects people to buy drinks, it is a pub after all. But, we had literally just arrived and was nearly immediately asked to buy drinks. So, we got a few drinks, but one of my friends wasn't drinking; she wasn't feeling too good. He comes over and tells her to 'buy a drink or fuck off'. I said to him "hey mate, she's not feeling too good" and he replies to me "get out, fuck off".

I feel this is because we weren't locals, it looks like a local pub. But, that's no excuse for the landlord to be a complete bastard.

I have been using this pub for many years and I know the owner very well. What he achieves in this pub is nothing short of miraculous. It's free to get in and has the top bands in London at cheap pub prices. I have read all the previous reviews people bitching about being asked to leave because they didn't have a drink!! What do they expect....... It's a pub and the only way it can survive if people come in and buy a few drinks! It's not rocket science is it. Ask yourself this question...... Why would he throw out someone that had a drink from his business??? That's what he strives to do, get people into the pub and have a drink. It's obvious that the ones he throws out DO NOT have a drink or are making no attempt to buy one. He is one of the best managers I've ever witnessed but he does not suffer fools gladly. He will tell you to Fekking get out if you are seen to be not playing the game. I for one will continue to drink in here till my dying day and snigger when I see him remove people that are drinkless. Keep up the good work dude!

This pub is a dive but does have great music. I went twice a week to see bands but never again. I had just finished my first pint when the landlord came over and aggressively said 'buy a drink this is a pub' I indignantly replied alright mate when he then threateningly said (close to my face) "get out my pub fuck off '. I have never been spoken to like that before so I was happy to leave. His loss four of us used to go there regularly and spent money.

Good music, reasonable as a pub - London Pride and Doom Bar plus Wimbledon Common Pale Ale. Mostly a music venue I suppose and the more important now the Grey Horse and the Peel are gone.

Went to this pub last night expecting a chilled out gig in a music-friendly venue, one that I've previously enjoyed. First up, I was charged 80p for a pint of soda water (fair enough, some pubs charge, some don't, I don't mind either way) but had to point out to the barman that he'd delivered me a half pint. "I suppose you can have a pint if you want," he said reluctantly, and replaced it (no additional charge!), but the rude shock was still to come. My friend and I were chatting, waiting for the band to come on, when the publican swung by and informed her that she had to buy a drink to stay and watch the band. She said friendily that she was going to do that when the band started, as we were still busy chatting, and we took it as a bit of light banter. He came back a little later, peered over her shoulder to see she still wasn't holding a drink, and then informed her loudly that she had to buy a drink to watch the band. "Where does it say that?" she asked reasonably, and he went and swung open the pub door. We were expecting him to point out a sign we'd both missed, but instead he began shouting, "Get out! Leave!" As she went out onto the pavement he abused her and used language completely inappropriate for ANY situation. She was understandably shaken and upset, so we adjourned to another pub further down the road which was far more welcoming, comfortable AND cheaper. We missed out on the evening's entertainment, but I had no intention of remaining in a pub where patrons are abused and ejected for no good reason whatsoever. AVOID.

Visited last night, Doom bar on and kept well, live music which was soft rock, friendly and efficient bar staff. Locals all friendly and enjoyed evening.
dariogirl - 24 Jan 2015 18:31
I strongly agree with the previous user's comments about this pub. On a recent visit with my family we were practically verbally assaulted by the landlord after engaging in what we considered to be light banter. I was absolutely shocked by his demeanour and we left without finishing our drinks, promising never to return. If you are in the area I recommend you try any of the other drinking establishments within walking distance or buy a can of special brew, sit naked on a pile of nettles and down the can in one - I guarantee that would be a more comfortable drinking experience than the one I had to endure.
Canelafina - 5 Aug 2014 18:46
I would strongly recommend that you give seruious consideration to whether you really want to visit this pub. On a recent visit the bar man was fine, amusing and helpful but when the guvenor arrived the whole atmosphere changed. He was brusque to the point of rudeness, and seemed to have a massive sense of humour failure. I would recommend either of the other two pubs in Raynes park miles ahead of this one.
raynesparkdave - 22 Apr 2014 12:05
Visited this pub last night, they had London Pride and Doom Bar both well kept. This is a music pub and they had a live band on, JP and the Crossroads, a blues band and very entertaining too, If you are in the area and enjoy an evening of live music give it a go.
Scotsaledrinker - 23 Jun 2013 16:04
Very expensive pint of Pepsi Cola 3.
basil2009 - 16 Jul 2010 08:39
As the name suggests there is a Beatles theme throughout this pub along with other music memorabilia. I think that it has been done really well and the two barmaids that served me were extremely friendly, but unfortunately the music was far too loud for my liking. I can understand it on a weekend night or for a party, but not on a Tuesday night when there are only four customers.

I didnt spot any hand pumps, but there was a standard draught selection along with Staropramen and the Guinness was good.

I would revisit this place if I was more local and planning a decent night out with friends that I didnt really want to talk to all evening.
Strongers - 8 Jan 2010 13:23
Only L Pride on draught, Olde English available @ 3.00 a pint, went down very well I have 2 say sitting in the nice beer patio in the sun, 6.5/10
fat_beer_badger - 17 Jun 2009 12:40
brilliant pub. amazing jukebox which creates a great atmosphere along with the memorabilia on the walls. the bar staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. enjoy spending many an evening in here.
nokindwords - 23 May 2009 20:17
What a difference the staff make - this pub was going down hill at a rate of knots - but is now heading back to great pub it once was. Forget your cheap beer in the chain pub, this is a free house and you pay a bit extra. The prices are reasonable for SW London. The juke box has been updated with some newer rock stuff, but still retains the old anthems. Aerosmith to ZZ top via the Pogues, Sex Pistols, AC/DC, Zepplin, Radiohead - you name it it's here. Yes it's load - it's f**kin rock! If it's to load - you're too old. And you are going to have to be with some of the customers of the old rock school and pushing into their 60's. You may even get a visit from Ronnie Wood (the Rolling Stones) who is known to drop in on occasion. Go for it Noel.
bikerbob - 15 Feb 2008 18:03
We used your site to pick The Cavern. However I walked in and straight back out again. Only London Pride and a gassy beer (John Smiths?) available. We went down the road to the new Edward Rayne, which is right across from the station and, being a JD Wetherspoon, had a great choice of ales. I'm not suggesting any improvement in atmosphere, but we had a choice of beers (the Speckled Hen was good) and could definitely find somewhere to sit
doddsy - 5 Feb 2007 12:21
Like Karloff I like the layout of this pub, but for me the music is too loud and it is too smoky. But that's just my subjective opinion - enjoy sitting outside in the late afternoon sun watching the world go by though. Not sure about the London Pride - suspect it is not the real ale version, but I could be wrong. Prefer the beer in the Raynes Park Tavern, which has a much larger range.
RexRattus - 30 Dec 2006 12:19
Good atmosphere, good music (lots of 70s rock) and London Pride in good condition: in all, a pretty decent Friday night out. This appears to be a recently-built pub converted from two adjoining shops I guess around ten years ago. Two slightly raised areas at either side help to break up the layout and add to the cosiness. Tables with heavy wrought-iron bases must have been bought from an old Victorian boozer and help to give the place an authentic pub feel. Rock music photos and memorabilia all round the walls. I would definitely go back.
karloff - 15 Nov 2006 15:47
Cracking Pub! Best Jukebox in Britain, assuming you like good music and not pop/dance/r'n'b crap.

Could do with a few more Ales but thats just me.

Also, a few seats have seen better days and could use new covers but don't touch the tables or walls.
Mr_Tyke - 15 Feb 2006 09:09
nice local pub with a bit of atmosphere.
silverside - 22 Jan 2006 22:17
this pub is great and genuinely 'a bit different'. Feels very friendly and although it is clearly very much a local crowd, you dont feel like yoyu shouldnt be there. If this pub was scooped up, put in the west end somewhere and given a late license, it would be packed to capacity every night. Great formula Mr Landlord - dont change it!
anonymous - 18 Dec 2005 20:19
Just had a brilliant night, live music supplied by the brilliant 'aerialdevice' who blew the place apart. Loads of money raised to send a sick child to America for treatment, an appearance by Noel (the owner, bar now opens late. Brilliant! What this pub is all about, good people good sounds and good beer!
bikerbob - 10 Dec 2005 23:39
Always a favourite for lunch at my old workplace, decent selection of beer, good food, nice, cozy atmosphere. The rock n' roll memorabilia was mostly genuinely interesting rather than tacky. Didn't have to deal with the landlord, though, so I guess my review's a bit incomplete...
AnotherYankeePoof13 - 10 Dec 2005 01:54
It's a real pub, so kids who like disco themed bland pubs stay away. Great booze, jukebox stopped being updated in 1985 (not a bad thing!!), staff friendly enough but at 2 mins past 11:00 you're out!!!! A pub for drinking - period!!
anonymous - 24 Oct 2005 22:35
Now this is a pub with atmoshere & attitude.
Great place....never tried the food, but just love to hang out here
anonymous - 12 Sep 2005 00:20
What a great place, although a bit strange with a wide cross section of clients. The best pub in Raynes Park and the surrounding area by far. The clients are really generous collecting for all sorts of good causes and look after each other. Highly recommend this place, especially on a Friday night when it's rammed.
anonymous - 4 Aug 2005 21:09
Used to be a good laugh. I used to work there when Noel ran it, then Sean his brother took over the running. S'ok there.. bit cliquey and there are far better pubs around with not so much attitude. One of the least nicest pubs i worked in come to mention it.
anonymous - 4 Aug 2005 15:53
Had many a laugh in this pub when it first opened many moons ago. Food does take a long time but that's because Sean's a lazy git and needs time in between moaning spats to cook the food. Pity that not so many of the old regulars can be spotted hanging out here any more. Bit of a head-bangers pub on a Friday night and really crowded. It's hard to spot who's in there cos of the dense cloud of smoke which hits you when you enter. Watch out for your drinks near closing - the bar staff swipe them quicker than you can say "has the bell gone yet?"
Crazy_Ange - 2 Mar 2005 13:18
This pub is a great place to go for wierd dudes and ladies! Yeah the landlord's a tad curt, but hey it's fun! The girls behind the bar are cool and pleasing to the eye. The food at lunchtimes (during the week only, shame) is brilliant and very good value, apart from the wait. Take a long lunch. Music's cool but could do with some additional new tracks. The toilets could do with a refurb, too. (Like locks on the doors and a seat that doesn't fall off!!). Go here and have a great night!
Bob the Nob - 8 May 2004 12:38
Small bar with lots of 60s/70s pop/rock memorabilia and matching juke box. Old red phone box next to door.

I used to go here regularly, but unfortunately as other posters testify, have found that the quality of service has dived in the last two years. Even when the the bar area is empty, be prepared to battle your way through the clique at the bar to receive the most miserable welcome imaginable - although you may be luckier if you get one of the barmaids rather that the landlord.

New owners and removal of the bar stools could do a world of good.

Martin - 11 Mar 2004 12:49
I would'nt say Sean is offensive. It's just that Saying"F**k off" is quicker & easier then "I'm afraid that's not on the menu sir" or "What do you mean you want a low alcohol shandy?" or "You really don't wish use your credit card to pay for these crisps do you madam?" Jukebox-while still v.good-could do with updating, but otherwise a great little local with lovely barstaff, genuine characters that are both fun & friendly & NO SCUM!!!
Peter - 17 Jan 2004 05:23
There was a time when i loved
this place to bits, but i hate to
report that it is slowly going
downhill,lot of former regulars
drink elsewhere,and the landlord
is truly offensive,even the
choice of beers is bad, come on
sean, lets see an improvement,
PLEASE?

After waiting 55 mins for my steak sandwich with extra chips, I enquired as to how much longer it would be ? " TELL HER ITS F*CKING COMING !!! " said the Irish voice from the kitchen....
Vicky W. - 23 Oct 2003 11:41
Dont go here too often as try to avoid the owner, but when he is not there it is worth a visit.Found that if you stand at the bar when the owner serves you he appears to believe that you are wasting his time by spending your money and often "accidentally" fires spittle at you and the odd expletive
Andy - 22 Oct 2003 16:41
Good pub, decent food, shame the landlord seems more drunk than all the regulars put together. Sean brings a whole new meaning to customer service. Offensive, pointless and totally irrelevant, sums him up quite nicely.
bob - 17 Oct 2003 14:42
The landlord threw his pen at me and told me to f*uck off when I ordered a cheese and bacon burger.
anonymous - 17 Oct 2003 14:33
How refreshing to escape all the chain pub shennanegans with this beautie of a local. Familiar faces and a juke box that kicks arse.
tim - 23 Sep 2003 13:34
This is a great pub. Only been in once!
Edward Milne - 5 Sep 2003 00:17
Top boozer!

Classis rock memerabilia, London Pride, phone in red phonebox.
Vindaloo - 13 Aug 2003 13:20
the best pub i have been to for a long time, great music great people! nothing like a quiet pint in The Cavern 10/10!
Richard - 2 Jun 2003 15:47
Best juke box I've found in a pub for years. Good atmosphere.
Guy who set up this pub also is responsible for the Cartoon in West Croydon (great rock venue).
Deborah - 15 Apr 2003 10:28
The Cavern is like Woodies in New Malden, in that it is a themed freehouse plastered with memorabilia. The theme of The Cavern is distinctly Rock & Roll, with stuff like old gig tickets, photos, instruments, a red phone box and other mad shit positioned around the walls and under the glass tabletops. The jukebox is brimming with cheesy and phat tunes from the last half century. I find this pub to be ideal for a school night, when I'm not up for tantric boozing but want to be eased gently into yet another meaningless, melancholy day.
