I do like this pub. It's pricey but the beer is good and the pub itself has a lot of character. The staff tend to be young ladies, some of whom seem to be chosen for their loveliness rather than their knowledge of how to pull a pint, but it is usually a pleasant atmosphere and the landlord always say 'hello'.

Walked in over the weekend to met by a very drunk young 'un who proceeded to wipe his bogey on me. A rather tipsy landlord couldn't give a badger so needless to say I won't be welcome back...hopefully along with said young 'un who now has a few bruises.

Having read the reviews before visiting North Curry for a week, I rather cautiously visited The Bird in Hand. There was nowhere else to dine out so it was worth a go. The prices seemed OK, Main meals started at about 7.50, Ham Egg and Chips, all the way up to 18 for fillet steak. The quality of the food we had was probably a little above average for pub fare.

Again reading other reviews, I was wary of the reception we would receive as outsiders, we have all visited the pub where the darts stop mid air, but this was also unfounded, the bar staff, waiting staff and other customers were all very pleasant and welcoming.

I would recommend this pub, a very lovely find in a pretty village.

Previous reviews are mixed and that just about sums this pub up. Should be a perfect looking village local, but disappoints. Only one beer on between Christmas and new Year which was Otter best and was not in good order, therefore low score held up by the pleasant ambience

Appauling! Nice pub in pretty village but the food is overpriced, for what is obviously not fresh and whilst the bar staff are friendly, the restuarant staff are slow and rude. Everything you ask for seems to be too much trouble. Would NEVER eat there again.

What a wonderful atmosphere this pub holds, beautiful country pub, delicious food and excellent staff, a pub I will most definately come back to!

Believe me Dr.Pangloss they really haven't. If like me and most others in there, you want to wait and be ignored by the barmaids and not get served for hours please come again. As Little Britain catchphrased "Computer says no!!!"

Impressed with this place - a real village pub that non-locals will enjoy visiting. Restaurant at back, the food was excellent with a good vegetarian choice. Popular place on a Saturday evenings. Three well-kept real ales. Well worth a visit, we'll be coming here again when we're next this way.

Cosy and comfortable. Visited on easter sunday- absolutely rammed but still very good and prompt service, with the waitress's smiling. Very exciting and varied menu, but our party all settled for the 'Roast' top notch. Desserts- the sticky toffe was divine. One slight fault- although plenty of meat and veg a little short on potatoes. Great atmosphere.

beer is good, kept well, served with enthusiasm..a very nice 'Proper Job' 4.3% light refreshing hoppy number from St Austell..
service is however still a tad on the slow side even when pub is relatively empty.

food is dire tho.......

Just re-opened again after fire damage. Too expensive and although the bar staff were a slight improvement on my last visit there was still people waiting to be served with no one in sight for ages behind the bar or with the 4 or so people thinking there conversation was more important.

Closed due to fire, hopefully will re-open.

Food is overpriced but good most of the time, beer is expensive but well kept. the staff are slow with the exception of the barman who always seems to be there & the bald one behind the bar, most of the girls are talking when customers are waiting.
All in all it's a good pub with a good atmosphere.

I had good service, I enjoyed the selection of cask ales, and appreciated the low beamed ceilings, wood floors, etc. I agree with the previous comments about the food being good, but overpriced. It is certainly worth checking out for a drink or two.

Nice pub in a nice village.
All I can say is that I can confirm what others have said. The food is good, but pricey and not really great value for money, and the sevice is poor and slow.
Pity really, could be much better

Stopped here for a quick pint and something to eat and thought it really nice. Upmarket and quiet though, but a good stop nevertheless. Perhaps a bit expensive.

Good local pub attracting a broad mix of customers and serving a range of well kept real ales, lager and keg bitters. A successful blend of a restaurant and pub.

Set in the lovely village of north curry, although not living up up to expectations. Food is ok, overpriced for what it is and poor service, seating cramped as you have move for waiting staff and other customers to get past.

Although yes, if I was writing this say 10 years ago, I would agree with a previous reviewer. I trust his judgement on the food having never tried it in the last 9 years I have to disagree over it's current rating. The service is generally poor with most bar people not noticing what's going on at the bar by staring into space or talking amongst themselves/with customers and looking at you obnoxiously/rudely if you dare attract their attention. Having to wait 10-15 minutes sometimes with little or no customers waiting to get served is not good to say the least. Also it has become most expensive of late compared to other pubs in the area and nearest town (2.50p for a pint lager is a little OTT) and really has been turned into a restaurant/eating place pushing aside it's drinking/pub roots.

Fanastic pub. Huge bar, plenty of different beers/lagers on tap, great food, though not the kind of place you stop for a quick bite, and great service. *****
