Lovely looking pub, food poor.

Visited here on a walk during a foggy day on the moors.
Place was cosy and fairly busy aimed mainly at the food market.
The beer garden looked good although it was too wet for that.
I would visit again for food or drink.

8/10

This was another extremely quiet Dartmoor pub on our Saturday evening visit, with just one other customer, the barmaid, landlord and landlady (plus their dog) around. It's a well kept pub, with an obvious elephant theme. It's also a typical country pub. Sharps Doom Bar, Dartmoor Jail Ale & Otter Bright were the beers. Winkleigh Autumn Devon Scrumpy was the cask cider. If it's peace and quiet you're after with your pint, this may just be the place for you. I recommend it either way.

Enjoyed it a lot, despite being food-dominated (e.g. service charge added automatically) - Palmers was good-ish, the pub has real multi-roomed character, and food was great.

went here for meal in may 2010. the view is magnificent and the garden beautiful. the food was perfect and well priced. it didnt take long and the desserts were a picture. there is a good range of beers and lagers, and wines. it made a very enjoyable occassion.

Wonderful weekend spent in the Nest. The menu was brilliant and the three meals we had were cooked and presented very well. The room was absolutely wonderful and PERFECTLY CLEAN. Great selection for breakfast - not often do you get offered scallops and bacon. The Landlord & Lady couldn't have been more pleasant, so I wouldn't take the previous reviews too seriously. I think it is probably fair to say the Landlord doesn't suffer fools gladly.

If you want a warm welcome DON'T BOTHER. If you want a clean room, DON'T BOTHER, mugs/glasses dirty, floor dirty, cobwebs and spiders in most corners! Sound proofing non-existent, mine hosts in and out all evening and night banging doors. Decided not to eat there as room so dirty, and landlord so unwelcoming went elsewhere to eat even though I was staying there. What a rude foul mouthed couple running it!! I'm sure they didn't intend me to hear what they were saying thinking I was arriving for breakfast 20 mins before the kitchen closed but I did! NEVER AGAIN there are plenty of good places avoid this one!

Visited yesterday. Not served by this apparent rude landlord but the Jail Ale and Sharp's doombar were well kept. Seems a 'foody' pub.

We used to love this place - but had a bad experience last time we went so it's a real shame... all down to the rude landlord. He is definitely NOT child friendly, actually come to that he didn't seem very adult friendly either! Such a shame as the food/pub is great.

Ummm...,agree that Landlord seems a little overbearing and rude.Feel it has lost the spirit, and now wants to sell upmarket tosh at upmarket prices, but you cant deny the food is pretty good, but it is really a Restaurant, and this site is for PUBS

Changed hands again I think and probably gone up market. Very popular and very busy but a bit more pricey than before.

Lovely old pub in a great location, but I suspect its not so much for locals these days!

The second nearest pub to me , the one i use the most , good beer , New Landlord who KNOWS how to treat people unlike the man he replaced!
The CHEAP alternative in the area as far as food is concerned , much more of a PUB, low beams log fire , slate floors .. LOVELY!
