Not often I disagree with the Good Beer Guide but I genuinely dont know how this made it in.

Ignoring the clientelle - all prosecco and wine glasses left on the dirty tables - this had three cask pumps with only one operational. That beer was from Shrewsbury - not a crime in itself - but you would have expected something more LocALE.

The rest was draft - served from a backboard - too far for my elderly eyes to make out what was on offer. I stopped the landlady at Stout - and a serviceable O'haras was dispensed in a funky pint glass.

Then I was charged £6 for the priviledge.

I headed back to Shrewsbury as fast as the train would carry me.

I broke my vow not to return to the Tap Tavern on Friday. This visit was a far cry from my last one. It was absolutely rammed inside. Getting to the bar was a challenge in itself. Just the 2 ales were on again. These were Turning Point Zeus & Charnwood Carousel. Craft beer options included beers from Work Shy, Weird Beard, Wiper & True, Wild Beer, Siren, Bone Machine, London Beer Factory, Moncada, Wild Horse, Belleville & Buxton. I opted for the Moncada Big Ole Beer, a double imperial stout. At 8.5%, it was delicious. But, at £4.80 a half, I made sure to savour every last drop. I'll upgrade my score to a 6/10 and I may still be back as the craft beer quality and choice is good. But, I could never have a session in here, with these prices.

Now called the Tap Tavern, this place is tucked away from the main street Richmond. I was the only customer in during my lunchtime visit. 2 ales were on - Twickenham Naked Ladies & Roosters The Wanderer. There are far more craft beers. I opted for the Siren Sweet Dream, which was £3.20 for a half. There were other craft beers from Siren, Wiper & True, Anspach & Hobday, Twickenham, Steam Machine, Siphon, South Lakes, Big Smoke, Salopian, Wild Weather & Roosters. Not sure I'll be back due to the excessive prices.

The Richmond Arms was closed for well over a year and has just reopened as The Richmond Tap Tavern selling craft beers and gin with an American craft beer bad vibe. As might be expected it very much aims to attract the local hipsters. The staff were friendly and efficient, the real ale (Kew Brew Pagoda No 5) was excellent - perhaps the best pint I've had this year. There are three real ales and sixteen craft beers There is also food, which I did not try, but it looks rather pricey.
It might give some of the other local pubs, which have become rather complacent, a run for their money.

A great little pub that always seems to have something going on. Prices are actually fairly cheap by Richmond standards and they have regular cheap drinks promotions. Great place to go at the weekend, open late with regular entertainment/DJ.
It's a gay bar with a friendly attitude towoards everyone and pulls a mixed crowd in terms of male/female, gay/straight, and everything of all ages inbetween.
Well worth a visit in my opinion! 😃

Stumbled across this pub on a night out in richmond...was the latest open pub in the town which is always a plus. The staff were very friendly as were the customers.
I had a chat with the manager who told us about there happy hour that they run every day, they also have a karaoke on Thursdays and a dj on Friday nights.....will be popping in again on our next night out in richmond

A very nice Gay bar on the back streets by Waitrose. Has lots going on Poker on Tuesdays, Karaoke Thursdays and a DJ on Fridays and is the latest bar open on the weekends. They are also bringing back more drag acts and have Drag Bingo on the last Sunday of every month.
They have lots of great drinks deals such as 2 cocktails for £6.95, house bottle of wine for £10.50. They have also just started Super Savers which is on every day between 7pm and 9pm and ALL day Sunday, in this you can get a pint of Carling for £2.55 or a bottle of wine for £8.75 plus so much more.
They have one ale on which at the moment is Reverent James which is a really nice pint and is kept well, they have a Cask Marque to prove it.
The Richmond Arms is well worth a visit :)

Walked in here after the Rugby to get away from the plastic cup serving pubs. Not great range but I did drink my pint in a glass. Quickly realised it was a gay friendly pub thus, the lack of ales. Nice enough place though

Gay-friendly pub that attracts slightly older gay guys early in the evening and a younger mixed gay/straight crowd later on. Gets a lot noisier as the night progresses - disco music after 9pm towards the end of the week & at weekends. It's unique in Richmond so worth supporting but I wish the manager would improve the quality of the bar staff. They are invariably young males who are definitely not picked for their customer service abilities - some are ok but some have no idea how to work behind a bar. Actually it would be nice to see the manager around more - he might get more out of his staff if he was more involved. Oh yes and it's expensive too - West End prices.

I dont understand how people can call this pub friendly. Went here for a quiet after dinner drink tonight. Looked like a nice place from the outside but we were treated in a very aggressive and hostile way by staff on entering for daring to voice an opinion (quietly to each other) that it wasnt nice to have your bag searched on entering a pub. They may well have their reasons for searching women's handbags but there's ways of talking to people!

A nice place to hang out, especially in the evening. The staff and customers are all laid-back and friendly, and they make you feel like one of the gang.

Sadly it looks much nicer from the outside than it actually is once inside. Pretty poor.

Cute spot. You'll always have the craic in here. Very friendly.

Richmond's best-kept secret. A gem of a backstreet pub, it welcomes gay and straight people and a great time can often be had.
No real ale but the friendly welcome and atmos more than make up for it.

the rather dark interior is decked out like a club rather than a pub and the lack of real ales a turn off for me. In this central location it could be so much nicer ...........

The Richmond Arms, a small tradional gay/straight friendly pub. One of the best in London.
Recently had a refurb, and the staff and Manager Freddie make the place welcoming to everyone. The clientel and regulars are all nice, and charming. You don't get any trouble, as the pub has great links with the community and the police safety team. Definately worth checking out, you will definately make new friends.....

Oh I love love love this pub! Went there after work one night and I had the best night! We treid all the shots on the menu, the two guys behind the bar (one called Martin I think...) were fantastic and the people in there were such a laugh! You don't have to be gay to go there at all and best of all? They sell Tequila Rose! Wicked little pub!

No real ale but not a bad little (gay) bar.

First Class venue! The manager, Freddy is the guy who makes the Richmond what it is - a fab pub, with great people and an atmosphere to match.

Weird drinks prices, but generally friendly atmosphere and pleasant staff.

Quite gay, but not visibly so from outside. Mixed crowd of queens and straight-acting. Mostly guys, although females more than welcome. Bar staff are friendly, but it gets crowded and seating is very limited, owing to a dancefloor and stage area which takes up some space at the back. Have an amusing karaoke night on Thursdays with a huge song collection, when occasional trannies do rather good renditions of ABBA songs. :) A nice pub, but if you're not interested in the same sex, there are probably better places to go to.

Gay pub - I am not, but have been in here for a pint and it was OK - I am possibly not the target customer though...
