Glasgowboy - 2 Aug 2013 07:08
The pub had all its windows smashed last night by Lewisham scumbag "rioters".
Trinker - 9 Aug 2011 14:49
Live music venue, it's quite unique to the area and for that I like it - if you want live Rock music and your in SE London this the only place to go -
sir_adam_of_downham - 17 May 2010 16:18
Heavey Metal type pub. They have various bands on at the weekend.
birdnhandroger - 22 Apr 2009 12:55
WE WENT THERE AND DIDN'T FEEL WELCOMED! WE DIDNT STAY! WE WAS TOO EMBARASSED
mariloup - 6 Aug 2008 17:44
The pub is the right place for fans of real punk rock and oi! music! The sound is great, there is a nice stage for live bands, the balcony of the bar is far from the stage, which is very good indeed! Dylan is the nicest host I've ever met in London or any other city in the world! He extended me and my wife all the possible courtesies and help, and even arranged us a taxi for us to go back to Central London as it was 2 am when we left the pub. I travelled all the way from Sao Paulo, Brazil with my wife, just to see the 30 years anniversary gig of the band Peter and The Test Tube Babies, and it was great!!! Highly recommended place for real punk rockers, moonstompers, etc. Cheers!
thefaveris - 30 Apr 2008 21:49
I heard The Pub Spy visted here and was not at all surprised to see he/she told the truth still dirty by name and by nature I see!Loved the bit about the brothel ha
blackheathbabe - 18 Apr 2008 19:44

blackheathbabe - 29 Mar 2008 10:23

If you like expensive disgusting to taste lager bad mouthed dirty peple this will do you. otherwise I wouldnt recommend it to adog its that bad. any one who says to the contrary must be just as bad
millwallandy1 - 29 Mar 2008 10:19
i've been there, and i thought the bands were wicked!! run by two top class promoters mark and jamie, however, one of the bar staff, i believe crystal, was sitting in a box! however, the bar manager, dylan, had long hair and i saw him use straighteners!! his dj set was superb ,however, it was fantastic! nice one dylan and nice one brixton mark and jamie jamm!
luke_the_man - 22 Mar 2008 08:37
Uuuuuuuurgh!!!! Disgusting establishment avoid, avoid, avoid!Worse bar in south London by all accounts Just wish i was told before going uuuuuuuuurgh!!!Awful. Dylan is so grossssssssss!Uuuuurgh!!!!Should be shut down on health grounds alone do not go !!
samanthaL - 30 Jan 2008 19:44
Absolutely dirty by name and by nature, The ale is out of date, the pipes need cleaning like 40 years ago, staff are rude unwelcoming and the manager Dylan looks like Ossie Osbourne but 40 years older!Truly a pub to stay clear of. The locals are young and high! They must be intoxicated to come here at the end of the night as anyone who can taste a drink will know that the beer here is bad ....reaL BAD!Has to be one of the worse pubs I have ever had the misfortune to judge!A real dissapointment! Why the brewery has employed this manager is beyond me. This manager should be running a brothel somewhere in estonia for transvestites not a lewisham pub! Honestly!
ThePubSpy - 28 Jan 2008 19:33
Seriously run down. I was in here about 3 months ago and now theres another manager called dylan. What a freak, i mean seriously the guys like Duh!!Wears leathers and is about 55 years old and dies his hair black. More at home in the adams family. Beer is really crap, music is ok,ish...Dirty floors, dirty glasses would not want to go back ever!
samanthaL - 11 Dec 2007 19:14

colint56 - 26 Oct 2007 23:12
Decent music venue. Place is fairly spacious though pub itself is a bit run-down
aleman - 31 Aug 2007 11:39
nice place to grow veg in the dirty floors and whats with the 14 year old gangsters rappers hanging out all the time? don't just don't
anonymous - 1 Jun 2007 20:30
Marky Ramone & Mani are DJing next month.
Glasgowboy - 30 May 2007 14:32
This pub has a long history, involving many name changes.
This reincarnation is very much same old same old except I reckon the music has got a lot better. The sound system was always good (6K in a small room will do that) The weekends when Alabama 3 are playing their residency are brilliant. Other nights feel very forced and under attended but that's usually midweek. If you fancy having a go they let you plug in on a Wednesday and the regulars are very welcoming.
The beer's nothing to write home about but some great nights to be had.
crampsfan - 14 Feb 2007 15:37
Terry Hall (ex Specials frontman) is apparently DJing here once a month for the next 3 months, starting with this Saturday. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
topdog_andy - 28 Mar 2006 09:15

anonymous - 2 Jul 2005 19:05
Cassie (and everyone else who got in touch), thankyou for you kind words and support. We are in discussions with Colin about future events and hope to make a regular thing of it.

We do need your support - the more people talk about our RockStock events them more word gets around and the busier and more enjoyable the gigs get.

I may even bring my own band "Antidote" next time - that'll teach you !

Thanks again.
Gary & Dave (RockStock Promotions) - [email protected] - 1 Nov 2004 15:09
well done with the 'rockstock' night, it was fab!!!!! great to see real live rock music in pubs...I hope this will become a regular event?
cassie - 31 Oct 2004 10:00
I enjoy the festivities in the Rose of Lee at the weekend, I am looking forward to the Halloween bash on Sunday! The staff are very frindly and the music is great! Very frinedly and accepting atmosphere, and you're always greeted with a smile!
Pete - 26 Oct 2004 12:21
Great pub for live music and atmosphere, Unfinished Business are appearing here on Sat 9th October don't miss em - great covers band from 60s onwards they rock.

fenderbassman - 30 Sep 2004 12:17
we show most games at the rose of lee but only if on syk sports or normal tv channels! we decided against premiership plus because of the extremely high cost but as a rule we will show any game customers want if we have the channel required to do so!
Colin - 27 Sep 2004 16:00
Is the Rose showing the Millwall vs Fencvaros game on Thur 30th? (Setanta Sports PPV)
heathen - 27 Sep 2004 11:21
Just so you all know! the rose of lee has two pool tables, two eight foot video screens, leather sofas, polished wood floors,a dance floor, live music & Dj's that play a whole range of music (Notjust R'n'b) barsnacks during events & every sunday, frendly staff & we're always open to your sugestions! why would you not want to go there? Colin.
anonymous - 20 Sep 2004 17:46
A note to phillipa! please don't be put of by a broken window! it was caused by someone braking into the pub to help themself's to the contents of the fruit machines! In fact if you look they did two other windows at the same time!and just for the record there's only been one fight in here in the last year!We try our hardest to discourage that type of thing and have lot's of lady customers that come in on their own because they feel safe to do so!And yes it may well be the nicest pub in Lee Green so you ought to come in and try it for yourself.
Colin (Manager Rose of Lee)
COLIN - 20 Sep 2004 17:32
Hello Phillipa,

RockStock is all about something for everyone with simply enjoyable entertainment being the watchword.

There may be a tribute band or two, definately some rock covers bands and also plenty of cool originals bands.

No RockStock evening will be the same. We intend to help turn The Rose into a vibrant and, hopefully, well known music venue.

What we need from the you the paying public is loads of support to help build it. Please do come along on the 22nd Oct (first Rockstock, bring all your friends and tell everyone you know. Lets all have a great time and be in at the start of something worthwhile.

If you would like to go on an e-mailing list to be kept up to date then e-mail me at the RockStock e-address.

Thanks for looking in and I hope to see you on the night.
Gary - [email protected] - 20 Sep 2004 09:21
Is this for the "tribute band" ages? or is this a more camden affair?

I am still looking for a reason to drink in this pub, as i am still scared of the smashed windows everytime i walk past!

Is this the nicest pub in Hither Green?
Phillipa - 17 Sep 2004 15:37
Watch out everyone... RockStock is coming to The Rose of Lee !!!

Friday October 22nd looks like our starting date and with three cracking live bands every RockStock evening this really is going to be the place for a great night out. If you love live music this is for you. Talk to Colin for more info or use the e-mail to contact me. Hope to see full houses and loads of great music. Cheers for now.
Gary from RockStock - [email protected] - 13 Sep 2004 17:24
I have to say Colin, I didn't think of that!! Next time we come in I shall do, thankyou!
To Pip - How can you judge a pub you've never been in? Don't judge a book by its cover...give it a chance and you may be plesantly surprised.
Cassie - 27 May 2004 18:52
As a reply to Pip all i can say is you cant please all the people all the time! We do our best to make the rose of lee a nice place to come to but like any pub it's not the pub but the people that make it what it is! sometimes we do have unsavoury customers just like other pubs (including those in Blackheath)but on the whole we dont do so bad as others in the area! and we do try to control it. Just for the record i do value your comments good or bad.
With regard to cassie and the juke box i dont think customers should have to pay for background music in any pub! Did you think to ask the staff for the type of music you wanted to listen to? I'm sure if we had it in our collection of c.d.'s it would have been put on for you
Colin (Manager Rose of Lee)
roseoflee - 24 May 2004 13:14
I'm always totally put off by the presence of the big screens and there always seems to be a window smashed!

It looks like it should be a nice puib (cosy sofas, wooden floors etc) but unfortunately i think the reality is its like most pubs in the area - PIKEY!

Someone please get us a decent pub so i dont have to always take my friends out in Blackheath!
Pip - 24 May 2004 12:26
we only recently moved to the area and the first time we went in this pub the staff were SO friendly!! I think it has a great atmosphere..only drawback is the lack of a jukebox to play with!!
Cassie - 23 May 2004 16:57
Ah, the rose of lee. My lovely local.bloody brilliant stuff. It used to be a shit hole and can sometimes slip to it's foemer self but it's a comfortable and enjoyable way of spending my money. go there. it's a laff!!
pixxie mathews - [email protected] - 13 May 2004 15:16
pub strictly over 21's smart casual dress and no sports wear now so its a lot better for the grown ups! & i must admit there was some W*****s in the pub but try it now!
colin - 4 Dec 2003 00:02
i used to go to the rose of lee, the only problem i have with it that there were a load of local kids in there that try to act like waana be ganstars! "little eminems". yes those from northbrooke estate, nr manner park.
deep north - 29 Oct 2003 14:48
Live music coming soon (25th oct 03) kiddies nite's now on the way out so i hope this is gonna make way for the big people! lewisham needs a pub for older people what you all think?
colin taylor - 6 Oct 2003 19:39
An OK bar. Has besides fruit machines and two pool tables it has pinball. Beer is looked after properly. Normally fairly quiet except Thursday - Saturday nights when it tries to turn into some sort of night club.
