Bland and disappointing. The Adnams I had was hardly recognisable as a pint from that fine brewer. One bar maid on who seemed more interested in watching a group of young suits than serving me or the other person waiting. The pool table must be a real moneyspinner - either the balls are smaller than standard or the pockets are larger. Either way a game tends to be over very quickly. A good table to impress someone with your pool skills as it was hard to miss a shot! Even my cue challenged friend was potting them like Alex Higgins.

What a welcome relief to find a friendly bar that can rely on it's staff and drinks to do all the talking.... No gimmicks or chrome and neon, just a warm welcoming place just a few streets away from Petticoat Lane and Liverpool Street that I'd be happy to drink a few more pints of London Pride in.....

What a pretensious name. What has this pub/bar got to do with poets for godsake? .A bust of The Bard doesn't count..

No price list for its beers, I feared the worst so I walked out. It was too noisy anyway. FIlled with suits in anycase.

Plastic leather couches.

This could be so much better if: 1) they had more real ale on sale; 2) they didn't run out of the real ale they have; 3) it stayed open later.

The pop quiz is great but, as mentioned in another post, could do with being better served by the venue.

Moorland Original and Greene King IPA normally served. You will have to get up very early in the morning to find both on at the same time. Bare floorboards as far as the eye can see. This pub gives the impression of space. Pool table by the front window. Often over-intrusive televisions, particularly on European football nights. All pints seem to be edging the 3.00 mark. Most clientele wear suits, so change out of your tracksuit at the door, if you were thinking of leaving the house wearing one. Food served, and it has to be admitted, is quite good. The Tuesday music quiz is well run in spite of a clear lack of support from the venue.

Really more a 'bar' than a pub. If you are looking for the latter, go to the Shooting Star nearby.

Nice place and good for watching sport as it's reasonably quiet, good food too.

The lease is for sale, late June 07. 75k and free of tie. Makes you wonder why there was so little real ale if free of tie.

It was okay. Only one ale on, which was Morland Bitter but that was quite nice and well-priced.

Although there certainly are All Bar One/Pitcher & Piano undercurrents, the staff were friendly and it had a little bit more charm to drag it out of that lowly level.

Sadly the patrons were definitely from the ABO/P&P sub-species. As a result, plenty of plebs drinking Magners.

Apologies, idiot moment, date visted 17 Aug.

Visited 19 Aug 06. The exterior view of this pub promised an old-fashioned London boozer, a step inside seemed to confirm this view. The pub is has several compartments to it, and I was intrigued to see a chap chilling out to his i-pod.

Then came the down sides, very little in the way of real ale. The Flowers Original was just passable. Then 5pm arrived and so did all the chinless wonders and hooray Henriettas. Is it really necessary to shout borishly and shriek like a five year-old?

Best to drink somewhere else.

An EXCELLENT Bar atmosphere with personnel both front and back of house that I can recommend highly. From what I saw; Whether you are in a group after work looking for that celebrational drink, or just looking for a quiet drink at lunchtime; it caters for all that you require. I recommend anyone in the area of Shoreditch visit The Poet to understand what I mean.

Went there most friday lunch times over the summer - the courtyard out the back traps the sun and it's pretty nice to smell your steak sizzling away on the BBQ. Drinks are averagly priced for the area though lacking in choice for bitter drinkers. The wine is also limited. The interior is... well.. I supose contemporary but could do with a little attention - most of the staff are great and work hard. The managers customer service is a bit of a let down and quite confrontational.
Great in summer - Drab in winter

Trendy - but not quite wine - bar. Very close to Liverpool Street. Wide range of beverages.
