One of the better if not best pubs in Fowey.

It was only 1130 on a November weekday that we went in.
Fire was roaring and the Christmas decorations gave it a cosy feel.

No one else in here the whole time so we really managed to appreciate this lovely pub.

9/10

This is probably the main tourist pub in town although when we went (more than once) it was quite quiet with manly locals and a few discerning visitors. It is a lovely old building smack in the middle of town and has that nice warm feeling which comes from the olde-worlde interior and the open fire blazing away. Fishing and nautical theme as you would expect. There is a pool table in the side room but nobody played it during our visits and they have a restaurant area with a very interesting old decorative window. It's comfortable inside with little scatter cusions on the benches and a nice feel to the bar! Food was very good (their 5 spice belly pork was excellent and a huge portion of meat). Tribute; Dartmoor and Proper Job beers (I like the hoppy Proper Job as a change from Tribute - which is still a fine ale). Very enjoyable though I would imagine you would have to get their early at busy times if you wanted a seat! Recommended.

Fowey's most atmospheric boozer - the open fire's ideal in the winter - with proper history and welcoming staff. Food always good and there's Rattler cider on draught when all else fails. Visited last night for the Wednesday pub quiz, which was most excellent fun. Plan to return (a lot).

Good pub and the most characterful of the town pubs.
Normal range of St Austell beers with decent Proper Job.

My favourite of the Fowey pubs. A characterful interior that actually hints at it's history, Proper Job, Tribute and one other, maybe Tinners, were on. I stuck to the Proper Job, which was decent. There was a pool table located in a seperate room, and a dining room which again was seprate from the main bar. It was hard to choose from the menu which offered an attractive range of meals, but plumped for the Crab and Mussel soup, which was very good, and the mackerel bap which was superb, and highly reccommended. Only gripe was that there was no escaping the noise from the table of 3 children in the window seats.

Good food and well kept beer. What more can you want. Oh yes, the eastern european barmaid was nice eyecandy.

Ace pub- we love it, fab food and friendly service, the owner runs the place like clockwork especially during food service in the evenings. Lovely log fires and lots of snugs, landlord doesn't mind us getting quietly hammered in the corner with the papers and good ale available.

Nice historic pub, used to be lived in by one of Walter Raleighs mates, who fought with him against the Spanish Armada. Local lad done good, sort of thing. The pub has a nice sprinkling of locals and tourists alike, and the food looked wholesome. My pint of Tinners was fine too. On a slightly different note, the mens toilet must hold the record for the amount of blue toilet blocks per litrine, There must have been 20 or so in each one. Talk about excess!

This is a great cosy old pub. There are lots of nautical artefacts around the place as you might exepct, very friendly staff and a good range of decent pub grub. The downside is it seems a bit pricey (6.75 for two pints).
Three St. Austell's beers on tap, plus Blackthorn and Cornish Rattler ciders.

What a lovely discovery. The staff were very pleasant and the food looked good in passing, but what I noticed more than anything was the intimacy of the separate cubicle areas. And when I was short on my next round, rather than break into a fresh 20,a rather attractive young local lady dipped into her purse with the coppers to ease my embarrassment. However trying to find a seat here is like looking for a virgin in a maternity ward and it is only testimony to it's quality and success.

Best in town by a short head. Nice and comfortable, friendly staff, log fire. Separate eating areas. Gets crowded quickly and at spurious times due to people wandering around Fowey in large groups, so you need to pick your time to get a seat. Spot on St Austell.
