user reviews of Fox and Grapes, Hawarden

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Fox & Grapes is one of two pubs I tried in Hawarden. Neither were brilliant. But the Glynne Arms had the better atmosphere and a far better ale selection. I will request for that to be added to the site. The Fox & Grapes was very quiet. Only two other customers were present. Ales were also fairly standard - Weetwood Cheshire Cat, Tetley's Cask & Sharp's Doom Bar.

A NOTE FROM THE NEW FOX & GRAPES:

All comments posted on this page are from several years ago: long before the new owners took over at the pub.

The pub has three new chefs who prepare quality food daily which is served by competent and professional staff. The menu remains varied and reasonable priced as do bar prices.

We urge you to come along and try us out again, and if you had a bad experience in previous times, we are certain you will have a different view upon leaving.

What the hell happend here? just moved back to hawarden after traveling hoping to come back to a nice crispy pint of carling when all i got was a flat and dirty pint. Was busy at the time, food was not bad but nothing like it use to be.

Fully agree with ruffloverz, the most pricey pub I've been to in a while. You can tell it's run by business minded people, not proper landlords as the portions keep getting smaller whilst the prices keep getting higher!!

Not one to recommend.

Thought this to be an excellent pub, beers were in good condition but the guest expensive at 2.50 a pint, staff very friendly and helpful, would call again.

Food excellent, beer just as good. Very friendly staff. All in all, not much to fault.

Visited here last friday at 8pm, for an last minute meal. Food and service was excellent, lively atmosphere, and very busy, but hey, i'd of been worried if it was empty wouldn't I...!!!.
Reccomend the aberdeen angus steak burger topped with stilton. Great

My local, great cask marque beers and weekly guest ale.

I do not like this pub. Always too crowded and no one seems to know why? Never anywhere to sit, no music, lots of spikey haired Busted-types and i have never had or met anyone who has had a "crisp and fresh" pint in there. Ever. Obscenely overpriced - How much for Stella? I wouldn't recommend this to place to anyone.

Good pub with a quality quiz held monday evenings. Get there early mondays as after 8.30pm ish you've got no chance of getting a seat! Apart from that... food menu is excellent but a bit pricey. No juke box but they have random digital radio songs playing which are good. Staff are very helpfull. Recommend the guest ale which changes approx every week. Watch the entrance to the car park as it is very narrow. Bar from that... setting and interior are nice.

The best pub going in the Chester region! The beer and lager is always crisp and fresh. The staff are always happy to help. The food is excellent. Be sure to check the weekly special board as certain special meals come and go. The Fox has numerous awards and is always clean. The interior has lots of artifacts and history about Hawarden spanning from all over the years. The landlord won publican of the year award last year so I can definatley recommend it to a friend!!!
