Local CAMRA City pub of the year and I was here to watch a live football game. Who'd have guessed that Oxford were competing in the Boat Race. Luckily, there are 3 TVs showing sport. So, when the rowing fans amongst the locals ordered the football off, I could crowd into the far room with the majority. Locals did seem a fairly friendly bunch though and the ale range was good - Oakham JHB, Timothy Taylor Boltmaker, Rebellion Smuggler, Pitchfork Puxton Cross & Titanic Chocolate & Vanilla Stout. Such a shame I was driving, as the stout would have been consumed in much greater quantity. Unfortunately, they do not serve a real cider. I'd be surprised if there aren't better pubs in Oxford. But, a good pub nonetheless.

The Masons is a small village that is a suburb of Oxford. The pub is a time capsule with a brewery in the Old Bogs (that's the name of the Brewery). One of their own beers was on plus Rebellion,Hophead etc. Unanimously voted the pub of the day.

Tucked away in the Headington Quarry area, this is a gem. Rebellion IPA, Dark Star Hophead and an old Hooky offering were all kept to perfection while crowds of people were in for a poker night - all ages were represented in what seems to be a real community pub. If they were to run a bus to Oxford United home games, it might be a good idea (not sure if they do).

Headington Quarry where the Masons is situated is like a village within a town albeit on the outskirts and the Masons has the feel of a village pub. It is invariably busy in the evenings with various pub games taking place, darts, bar billiards, aunt sally and cribbage and also a regular quiz night. Football is shown on TV but with the volume off. Currently their regular ales are Dark Star Hophead, West Berkshire Good Old Boy and Rebellion Mutiny with a guest ale often from lesser-known breweries. Looking forward to the annual beer festival in four weeks' time.

Decent old fashioned boozer with a selection of real ales, some from smaller breweries. Deservedly busy on a weekday evening. Tucked away on the edge of Oxford, but worth seeking out.

My third visit to this pub in about 18 months, beer quality was excellent, nice pub with a bit of 'life', footy on the telly and quite busy for the time of day. It's what an English pub should be like!

A lovely pub with a good range of handpumped beer including West Berkshire. I went to the 2009 beer festival and the beers were much improved from the 2008 effort where some of them were a little flat. Finally got to try the whole range of Old Bog beers and very nice they were too. Well worth a visit.

A very good pub indeed, and worth making an effort to visit. Good range of beer -Brains Rev James, Deuchars IPA and West Berkshire Good Old Boy are the regulars, which is a very nicely balanced lineup indeed. Add to this the guest beer, and the Pub's own efforts from their Microbrewery, and you get a very good real ale destination. Also scores highly for decor and atmosphere. Has something of the social club feel to it, and a good crowd of (mostly older) regulars. A fair way from the centre of town, but well worth the trek.

Went during a beer festival unfortunately the beers were somewhat out of condition, as I didn't try the beers on the handpump in the bar I can't comment on those, overall a great pub I'll return to.

Luckily for a midweek visit there was a firkin of Old Bog Dancing Morris available in splendid condition at 2.30/pint. Also available WBB GOB, Hook Norton Old Hooky and Brakspear Oxford Gold. Well worth a short detour from the A40.

If you read this tonight (Wed. 11th June) Old Bog Quarry Gold will be available tomorrow.

Rumour is that the brewery housed in the (ex)toilet block at the rear of the pub is to increase capacity from 1 barrel (36 galls) to 5 barrels......more Old Bog beer, more often!!

Friendly pub on the outskirts of Oxford, a bit of a treck to get there.
Occasionally has one of there own beer on which then tends to rush out of the pumps.
The TV screens tend to dominate with sport of all kinds, there is a decent sized garden if the weather is up to it.
No food that I could see.

Called in early doors on a Sunday-no home brew but a good half of Landlord-quite tricky to find but worth it. Nice locals pub

Nice little place, good range of real ale, has it's own microbrewery in the old toilets!

Clean and cosy.
