Foods good but the managers are dreadful; rude and off hand purely because we were a party of yougsters even though we were very calm and quiet

Up in BSE for a long weekend with a wedding, we came here for lunch, the food was very good but my GK IPA wasn't

I was in a very good mood and so drank it, and ordered two more

The first was almost flat with just some suds and tasted not bad but not right, the second was fair as a pancake like it had been sat under the bar for an hour, the third was almost ok, proper head and altogether more like what I'd expect (I don't GK IPA much in London although it was a fav from my youngers days as an Essex boy)

in short I wouldn't drink there again, having three such different pints brought to says to me the bar service is rubbish

as others said, it crossed the line into being more of a restaurant than a pub

Fourteen of us visited the Fox, mainly for the food. As the previous comments it is really a restaurant, which serves a good pint of GK. The food is very good value and vegetarians are catered for with a good selection of different dishes. Excellent pub, staff very good, the waiter was quite a comedian, we will be back...........

Nice pub but more Costa Coffee than a beer establishment. Clearly been refurbished tastefully but the prices of the beer seem to be upped to cover the cost of paints. Usual range of GK beers, the H&H Olde Trippe was good but no Abbot - how can you not have Abbot in BSE. I would have preferred to go to the Old Cannon - better a poncy pint of OC than a poncy pint of GK.

I have been using The Fox Inn for just over four years now and have dined there on numerous occasions. The food is of a very high standard, so is the service by the staff and the beer on tap is excellent. The wine selection is excellent extremely varied and of good value for money. The menu changes regularly on the boards, so there is always a good choice of food, even if you are vegetarian. As the food is locally sourced, very fresh and high quality it may be that you have to wait slightly longer before it arrives at the table. None the less the wait is well worth it. The building is very oldie world with a charm all to its self. The interior is oak beamed, the lighting is good and the whole dining experience is delightful. The interior is also very tidy and clean, with no odour contributable to stale beer. I would recommend this venue to anyone that enjoys good food, wine, with a very gratifying atmosphere.

Arrived here on a busy Friday night, very pleasant pub with a good atmosphere. Good range of GK beers and usually a few guest ales too. The focus is more restaurant than pub. We were asked by the barman if we had a table booked (something that annoys me when all I have asked for is a beer!). Out of hunger and curiosity, we did take up the offer of a table. The food was, as mentioned by other posters on here, very good and also excellent value. Would certainly drop in here again when passing.

Once a pub of real individual character,The Fox has come to embody the classic scenario of how to rip the soul from a pub while going for the food-buck.'Diversification'...that's what they call it,right?
That said, the beer is indeed very good.
Not on my radar at all these days.

A good pub good food and a wide selection served by charming staff. Bags of parking with a municipal car park very near. Close to BSE Abbey gardens. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best pubs in Bury if you like a nice meal and a good pint to go with it. Food we had was great (particularly the puddings which were magnificent!), lovely beer (all GK based but some of their more interesting ones) and the service really is excellent. Very friendly and helpful service and well situated for a stroll in the Abbey gardens to work off that pudding afterwards. Highly recommended.

Almost become a restaurant that serves beer rather than a genuine pub. That said, the food is great, the service is excellent, and the beer is better than decent - a good pint of IPA or Speckled Hen, and a changing rota of specials or guests (Ale Fresco and Olde Trip on the night I visited).
Worth seeking out, but if intending to eat (especially in the evening) you'd be advised to book.

Food and beer at the Fox is superb. All drinks are served by friendly and attentive staff. Food is all freshly prepared and the cheese board and home made chips are a treat. There's a great selection including vegetarian, fish, pasta and organic options. It's totally smoke free so has a clean atmosphere. Everyone taking a trip to Bury St Edmunds should visit. Just a patio area to the rear.

Really good beer served by friendly staff. Good wine selection as well.

A really well kept pub, nice classic pub style but with a clean and fresh atmosphere

Now smoke free

Great atmosphere, wonderful food. Limited menu but there are always specials so you have a good selection. Food is freshly made and worth the little extra wait. Nice and friendly staff and good location next to the Abby.
Definatly worth going here for a good meal!

A really well decorated pub now. Better than it used to be with no idiots anymore.

Good beer, great food and five centuries of history wrapped around it. A very comfortable, welcoming pub.
