The staff are rude. The food is terrible and the Carling tastes like dish water. I'd recommend anyone to stay away from this god awful place

Improved beer quality in recent times. Had a very nice pint of Peerless "Peninsula IPA" yesterday.

Staff morale and ale/food quality seem to be on the slide since the arrival of a new manageress from Liverpool. The usual suspects - Greene King IPA and Ruddles seem to be available but other more interesting brews are either "Available Soon" or not worth drinking. Made the mistake of ordering a "Manager's Special" turkey dinner which was neither special and would make me think twice before I offered it to the manager's cat. The John Masefield in nearby New Ferry shines like a beacon of excellence in comparison to this soulless barn.

Was in here yesterday morning, as we waited for Gallaghers to open. It was my second visit and I can't say it has improved greatly. It's a fairly standard Wetherspoons with a range of mainly Christmas Ales - Batemans Rosey Nosey, Mauldons Bah Humbug, Greene King IPA & Abbot, Phoenix Black Bee, Robinsons Mr Scrooge, Caledonian Santa's Little Helper & Peerless In the Balance. Cider was Westons Old Rosie. However, be careful when ordering Old Rosie as you may well end up with Rosey Nosey which was practically undrinkable. We also had the misfortune to try a breakfast. It's fairly difficult to go wrong with a full English breakfast, but this place certainly managed it!

Five ales available last night but they were all 'dark' beers, not to my liking.
Less than half full but a good range of ages drinking and eating. Certainly better than the other Wetherspoons, the John Laird, not far away.

Used this place for years and at one time they served the best pint of Cains in town but like always with Wetherspoons they soon took that off! They cant seem to leave things alone sometimes.

Staff are usually friendly but very often not enough of them; Friday lunches, 2 staff serving 10 or 12 punter!
Lately the range of beers has been poor. The other week 8 handpulls but only 3 beers on. Not good enough frankly and sometimes I just turn around and walk out.
With just a bit more care this place could be improved.

Have to say that this is a great wetherspoons the staff are friendly and there are quite a few characters in here . Have drank in here for many years and have never really had any problems.

I met a mate in here at 7:30 last night prior to going to the Birkenhead Beer Festival at Pacific Road Arts Centre.
The pub was crowded with punters of all ages and was lively and noisy.
There appeared to be a small Wetherspoons beer festival taking place, however most of the brews were 'sold out' or 'coming soon'.
I was forced to have a pint of Greene King Abbot Ale. I was pleasantly surprised, it was a well presented, nice pint.
Nice to see that this pub is thriving.

Hate is far too strong a word, Fat Badger. As paying punters we are entitled to comment as we see fit. Saying that this Spoons is full of bagheads is out of order but remarking on the perennial understaffing, the up and down nature of beer quality and the merry-go-round of management changeovers is fair enough. The reasons why some people think that the barpeople are "terrible" is mainly because there is simply not enough of them and those that are there seem sullen and disinterested as a result. This outlet is one of a few that gained entry to the Good Beer Guide for 2009. It won't be in the 2010 edition. Cheaper than average prices are simply not enough.

Oh look another page of "wetherspoon haters", admittedly not the best JDW offering in the country but the best of the two in Birkenhead.Friendly service and a comfy pub with a good atmosphere, 7/10

I don't know where you got the "ripped and tatty" bit from. All seems in order to me. However, the beer availablity and quality is too up and down for a pub in the latest Good Beer Guide. Last Friday I went in and had several pints of Burton Bridge "Golden Delicious" which was in really top notch condition and great value at 1.79 a pint. Yesterday, the only available guest ale was Spitting Feathers "Farmhouse Ale" which was as flat as a fart and not what you should expect.

This Wetherspoons pub is beginning to look a bit tired & tatty with ripped seats & wallpaper. Service is generally OK with the usual choice of beers you would find from this pub chain. Large beer terrace at the rear which is an excellent sun trap.

Staff are terrible like most Weatherspoons

To be fair, most of the smackheads have migrated to the wretched "Sonnys on the Square" since the BB went no smoking. BB is now in the 2007 Good Beer Guide and deservedly so, although a few more barstaff at peak times wouldn't go amiss.

full of smack heads very dodgy area - its a spoons cheep but nothing home about or hear!

No smoking Wetherspoon outlet with a range of cheap, well kept beer. Well worth a go.
