After a quick pint at the Kings Heads we headed along Southover High St to make my first ever visit to this attractive Harvey’s Brewery tied pub.

The public bar to the right as you enter has been converted over to a dining area with “all the drinking action” taking place in the private bar.

3 ales & 2 real cider both from Weston’s on the 5 hand pumps, I opted for a pint of Harvey’s Knotts of May, @ 3.0% it’s a perfect session mild. After commenting on the barmaid’s music choice that was playing on vinyl we took our drinks and headed out to the attractive patio that then leads onto the walled garden. Thinking the pub was empty was a mistake as all of the punters were in the garden enjoying food and the sun.

I’m not sure what I expected from this pub but I was genuinely surprised how lovely it is, being busier than the Kings Head it was easier to feel that theirs some atmosphere here, the bar staff were all fairly young and hip, which might not be to everyone choice’s but it works for me especially if they are enthusiastic and friendly.

Lovely pub, lots of character, good beer and a cracking garden and patio area.

Certainly worth the walk the “wrong way” from the station, scores 8/10 for me and yet another pub earmarked for a return visit.

Got to be the best Sunday lunch in Lewes... After a long walk over the downs we went to the Swan Inn, Lewes for a treat of hearty Sunday roast. A roaring open fire, welcoming bar staff , and a dog friendly environment settled us in. The fact that the music is vinyl and period features are preserved adds to the retro chic feel of this place. The food is to die for....The squid was perfectly cooked set off by chorizo and red cabbage, local lamb with man sized portions and pork shoulder with real crackling REALLY proper crackling. We thought we couldn't eat much more till we saw dessert menu and gave in to the inner child that was raspberry mousse with shortbread . We will be back!

Friendly service, lovely beer garden and good food. Not the best selection of lagers unfortunately, but they do have several ales and a real cider on tap.

Landlord John died earlier this year and his wife Glenys left a few months after. Terribly sad as John was one of a disappearing breed of classic landlords - he could appear curmudgeonly at first but he earned the respect and affection of his customers and looked after them very well in return. 100's turned out for his funeral. Harveys have put in a temporary team to manage it while they decide what to do with the place. Last time I visited it had that flat atmosphere you get during an inter-regnum. I hope Harveys do something imaginative and classy - this place is bursting with potential and big enough to have a great locals bar yet still offer a more extensive and ambitious menu.

What a gem The Swan is - a warm welcome, pleasant atmosphere, friendly locals and Harvey's in top form. A classic pub and well worth a visit.

out of the way pub with great beer , old school charm of times gone by ... saloon was closed but the public bar was empty and a step back in time ... nostalgia central .

A very pleasant pub just away from the town centre. The food seemed to be good and reasonably priced. The beer quality was excellent and I sampled some of the best harvey's I've had for a little while.

Traditional public house serving traditional bitters and ales brewed in the town centre. Wide selection of wines, spirits and beers.

Great food at lunchtime and in the evening. HUGE portions of tasty food including homemade pies. Delicious Sunday roasts every Sunday.

Welcoming and comfy atmosphere. Blazing log fire on chilly nights. Friendly and efficient staff. Surprisingly large garden and patio area, perfect for lazy summer drinks. Large carpark at rear.

Enormous helpings of simple food. Even a ploughman's lunch is enough for him and his family. Great beer, pub inside a bit smokey but good courtyard and garden.
