Ringwood Best and Doom Bar were on the handles when I visited, I had the latter which was excellent. Friendly service plus a low ceiling height and apparently genuine old beams all contributed to a good atmosphere. Was filling up with convivial diners as I was leaving.

Welcoming barmaid on a very quiet Saturday afternoon, even the three locals popping up the bar said a friendly hello, decent pint of Ringwood and a half of Stowford Press for a fiver. Interior dark and low-beamed - excellent! - but drank outside on decked area.

very unfriendly bar maid, left standing for ages. Priority given to diners and regulars. No welcome, no eye contact - treated like an intrusion rather than a potential new regular - never again will avoid like the plague.

A good, quiet country pub with some good beer too (Ringwood and Doom Bar) both well kept. Didn't eat, but prices seem keen and there seemed to be a good variety of food choices. 7/10

You could even buy the place (leasehold) for 65,000!

Beautiful old country pub, fantastic food, very welcoming staff, what more could you ask for when out for a meal with the family, except exeptional beer. Always clean and a lovely atmosphere. This is one of my favourite pubs to visit around salisbury, and never a let down, the staff have done a very good job, and i will continue to enjoy it in the future.

A regular visitor to this pub I have generally found the landlord to be grumpy. The 5. menu is invariably disappointing but serves its purpose to attract people to the pub for a 'cheap' meal. Having said that the portion size of some of the items on the menu are so small that you need to order chips as well just to make it look like a meal.
On my last I found a BIRTHDAY CAKE CANDLE IN MY COLESLAW!! Not impressed, although I didn't make a fuss, but could have easily choked on the plastic part. It came complete with chocolate cake on the bottom. The manager / landlord took it off me, went into the kitchen, came back to the til and then to me. Placing 5. on the table WITHOUT AN APOLOGY he said it must have come in the coleslaw from the manufacturer as they only have pink candles in the pub!! My theory (and it is only me speculating) is that it was perhaps brought in by someone celebrating a birthday, was left on a plate to be cleared away and then the kitchen staff scrape uneaten coleslaw back off plates to be re-used?? Gross if true, but how else would it got in there complete with cake?? NOT going there again.

Pleased to say the Yew Tree is open again and has just held a beer festival. Mrs A went in and said it looked OK but couldn't comment on the beer. I will review properly next time I pass that way.

Sadly after a wonderful but long walk from central Salisbury desiring a decent ale at the other end (it was about 2.30pm) which we had planned, we turned up at the Yew Tree only to be told it was closed!

I imagine quite a few people do this beautiful walk south from Harnham, crossing the Ebble and aiming for a refreshing pint at the other end and I imagine a few do this on Sundays. It was really disappointing to be turned away.

Why is it that so many pubs in and around Salisbury don't look after their Sunday afternoon punters?

Interior of the pub itself is alright but it's one of these places that has become almost a restaurant with a licence, you almost feel obliged to order some food. Also, they also suffer from the widespread - but no less annoying for it - habit of making sure that regulars are served first irrespective of how long you have been waiting. At least they look after the beer which is a redeeming factor.
