Full on greek restaurant now. Didn't notice any real ales, although some reports of a single McMullens being on. Instead, I went for a £5.20 Peroni. It was lifeless.

Sure the food is lovely.

I want to like this pub but I just can't.

The service, now it is food lead, is just so slow. It would not really matter so much if the food was good, but it's average at best. It's in a lovely setting and the new team are nice enough; but insisting on bringing drinks out and then just not doing it, is not service; it's annoying.

Only McMullens on draft which is a shame, as to be fair it's a pretty average brewer.

No dogs in bar, in a pub in this location it's daft. Just let us come in, choose from a selection of beers, have a cheese sandwich and bring our dogs in (even to the little bar) and you'll find me nipping in for many a pint.

Great country pub, food is nice and beers are well kept. Staff are very friendly and the pub caters for children well. Always welcoming.

This pub is excellent now much better since the new owners took over . You have themed nights, bouncy castle for the kids and play area, food excellent although no to keen about the baguettes being swapped for sandwiches on the menu, (but they do still taste nice), Deserts are nice too youve got waffles, chocolate cake, cheescake all very yummy!

Always packed in the summer as the garden is lovely to sit out in with a cold jug of pimms surrounded by the country side.

Bar staff friendly and will have a chat with you whilst you wait for your drinks.

Deffinatley be returning !

Always had a decent experience here, but never great. Food and beer is average, staff can be a bit cavalier or really good - must depend on which way the wind blows.

Can't understand the negative remarks about this place. It is seemed the perfect country local on our visit. Meant to be the final stop off on a walk through nearby Broxbourne Woods before a taxi back to the station, we ended up staying there for hours, chatting with the locals and playing darts. Beautiful location in a verdant valley surrounded by woods, and a lovely old beamed C17 building (grade II-listed), too. I will be going back very soon.

Another absolutely horrendous experience, went for a quick drink with a couple of friends, was served by a very mireable woman, who then asked us to leave after knocking over an empty glass. Would never visit again.

We visited this pub for a meal on a summer's evening in June 2006, and had a pretty horrendous experience: over an hours wait for food; with the wrong meal order eventually being delivered, and general chaos when trying to order a round of drinks. On complaining to the Manager on the lousy service, we were told that thay were "staff training" (on a Saturday night??? - WTF!) and aforementioned manager was totally aloof and would not refund our money muppet!

A hasty letter to MacMullens Head office resulted in a promt reply, a VERY apologetic letter containing a full refund in the form of a voucher.

We went back in July, and what a result; the food was deliverd within a reasonable time and was very good - they had more staff, who were very fiendly (although the fact we handed over the refund voucher may have biased our service). I would now recommend this pub based on their efforts to reinstate customer confidence, and it's superb location and beers.

The best G & T for miles around! Not sure why it tastes so good there, but it just does! Nice location too. Better in the summer though. Sometimes unfriendly bar staff, but good the rest of the time.
