user reviews of the Navigation Inn, Stoke Prior

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Navigation has been refurbished and re-opened under new management (a seemingly enthusiastic young couple). We arrived at opening time yesterday. There are two rooms. We chose the public bar. But whilst it was fairly comfortable, I felt it lacked character. There are 4 handpulls and I think they're gradually building up the range. Two ales were on yesterday - Butty Bach & 6X. Ok. But could be better.

The nearby Country Girl is temporarily closed so we stumbled into the Navigation instead, not expecting much truth be told. Don't be put off by the car wash in the car park; this is a lovely little pub with great food and very friendly staff. It's so nice to find a proper country pub with saloon and lounge bars intact (& a restaurant at the back), rather than another clone gastropub.
Ales included Spitfire & Black Sheep. My parents didn't fancy the tarragon sauce with the monkfish, so the chef offered to cook them a lovely prawn & white wine sauce instead. I had the Tunisian chicken which was superb; we are going back next month for the Tunisian evening. Nice little beer garden with chickens pecking around, rabbits & guinea pigs to distract the kids. I got the impression the proprietors really care about their pub, their food and their customers.

Visited at the beginning and end of a week on a canal boat. Very friendly people run this pub who made us very welcome. One or two decent guest ales to complement a fairly standard range. Food was very good and good value as well.

Like walking into a fog with the smoke last Friday Lunch time. Didn't eat but prices looked reasonable. Quite a good guest ale on from York Brewery-Ebor.

a lovely pub, and the new restaurant is absoloutly gorgeous, prices are a bit steep until you try it, and you know you are getting your moneys worth. Good real ale, with plenty of CAMRA awards. Well worth a visit. xx
