The most iconic of all suttons bars and a testament to the hard working staff that make this bar a pleasure to visit.

a bar i use now and again and like.in early in the week and sierra nevada pale ale was tip top,but at £5 a pint it has to be.miss the becks vier in here, but peroni is good .and as other post on here say clean and good service.a bit on the expensive side ,but on the plus side safe and away from the nutters.old bill use it a fair bit.

hoppyal - 26 Jun 2012 14:21
full of people who believe they are far superior to your average pub drinker. A rarity in Sutton - a hangout for snobs.
Wilson_MacDonald - 28 Apr 2012 15:14

was in monday night, had a nice couple of peroni, mate had the american wheat beer which is served with a slice of orange.3 drinks came to over 12 so a bit pricey, but found out if you had becks vier its 20p cheaper than cock and bull.very good service and nice clean place.
hoppyal - 22 Dec 2011 14:01
HAD A MEAL HERE LAST NIGHT AND IT WAS VERY ENJOYABLE BIT EXSPENSIVE BUT WELL WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY.
cockneypaul - 14 Dec 2011 16:20
A very pleasant venue
stealthy - 18 Oct 2011 06:40
A much better place to be and have fun looking at the peasantry directly opposite.
krobbo81 - 19 Jun 2011 19:40
Its a very relaxing place to go during the day of a weekend, I like going there with my wife and little boy. The food used to be very good but has been a bit hit and miss in our more recent visits.
SimonofCheam - 11 Jun 2011 20:15
this is a well run relaxing bar, have fallen in love with sierra nevada pale ale.has a great selection of foreign beers.
hoppyal - 22 Feb 2011 15:17
had a very nice pint of sharps doom bar in here, other beer on was london pride.polite barstaff .nice cool bar on hot day.
anonymous - 4 Jul 2010 13:30
Reasonable beers (but why ice chill London Pride?!) with plenty of space. Bar staff were arsey with the 21s policy though.
Fart - 29 Jun 2010 11:16
Good selection of german beers, it was like being back in Germany. Also sell some potent beer kept in the fridge Innes and Guns or some something like that, don't really remember but it was like 8.4%. That stuff blows ur mind and is sold in small bottles for the obvious reasons. Good music altho I had a long wait queuing for the bar.
Trifixion - 20 Oct 2008 23:07
nice barmaids.... nice beer...... nice hangover....
MrKennedy - 5 Jun 2008 11:11
This is not really a pub, especially on a Saturday night when it's a case of pile 'em in and whack up the music. However, I recall it was a fine place for meeting ladies so must be recommended in that respect. Now I am much older, would recommend Spoons over the road in pretty much every respect, especially beer prices.
stevosgloriosus - 10 Feb 2008 22:00
If I wanted to drink in a nightclub, I would - why oh why must they turn the music up to ear-bleeding levels just because it's 8pm? I'm no old fogey but this had me running for the door - which is a shame as it is way better than most of Sutton's crummy establishments.
BlondeAmbition - 23 Oct 2007 11:46
Agree the prices are high but it helps to keep the riff raff out which, in Sutton, is a full time job.
cfcmark - 19 Jul 2007 13:53

Described by friends as 'Like going for a drink in Ikea', I have to confess that this is one of the very few Slutton pubs worth going into.
harbourdrinker - 19 Jul 2007 13:42
Popped in last night for a pre-party beer and found the prices horrendous and the London Pride bitter very, very weak - popped over to Weatherspoons opposite and was much happier.
hseal43 - 28 Jun 2007 11:25
good dating bar... the soft lighting and abundance of wine can make anyone look good, and thats saying something for sutton!

always enjoy drinking here, but not the prices
woodiesregular - 13 Apr 2007 17:03
I drank in here when it first opened but got tired of it once it started getting too busy and became a hall with large tables. Haven't really had any reason to go here since as other pubs appealed more. I went in for a quick pint the other day out of curiosity and have to say it's not a bad place to have a pint by yourself and watch the world go by. It's got a nice ambiance and a good choice of drinks with only Carlsberg being the standard commercial offering. You definitely get the feeling that this place isn't populated by the "lets get as drunk as possible and fight crowd as the clientele seems to be of the late twenties to late thirties age range. Perhaps they appeared later but there didnt seem to be any bouncers, which in my opinion is a good thing. Nothing against bouncers, but sometimes they act as magnets for wanna be hard men to prove themselves against.Perhaps the nicest thing about the place is that you can sit in there having a drink watching people(ish) go in the Weatherspoons opposite knowing that theyll never come in due to the drinks being well over their benefits budget. Ive only one criticism and thats about only half the bar being used to serve drinks. I wasnt in there late so I dont know whether they used the other end when it gets busy but it seemed a bit strange. I get the feeling this place could be the big winner when the smoking ban comes in as it has seating outside and seems set up for eating as much for drinking so there didnt seem to be that many people smoking when I was in there on Saturday night. Think I might be frequenting this place a bit more from now on.
anonymous - 12 Mar 2007 14:34
Great food, good beers nd superb selction of wine, I have never seen any trouble in here either

All in all, a great place to take a date to...
MrKennedy - 29 Nov 2006 09:02
Well, it's an All Bar One... the Wetherspoons for people who shop at the Pier. Unlike Wetherspoons, though, the All Bar One chain has none of the worthy principles and is simply another "leisure" enterprise.

The food is always good and there's a wide range of wine. The beer tends towards the lifestyle lagers rather than ale, that's not really what the place is all about. Ultimately, though, it's hugely expensive and, like all All Bar Ones, fitted out in the worst example of post-90s urban sophisticate decor... lots of rugged bare wood and exposed pipework. You can't fault the quality of the refreshments, but there's that niggling feeling that you're paying a premium for a corporate identity.
sfocata - 3 Aug 2006 08:50
Quite expensive & devoid of atmosphere. London Prode OK, but nothing special.
Wilson_MacDonald - 30 Jul 2006 16:23
All Bar One in itself has a very good ambience and is probably the best place in Sutton to meet friends.

However, the last time I was there, I found the beer tasteless and expensive (3.20 for one of the imported lagers).
BrianE - 8 Dec 2005 20:57
fair enough, people are entitled to give their opinion, however, if they are going to do that, getting the facts right before ranting would prevent them looking stupid...

All Bar One Sell Extra Cold Guinness.......

bierkellerman - 19 May 2005 11:48
anon:

Feel I have to come back after your comments. The reason we wanted to go in the empty pub was more because of the thunder and lightning, a safety issue, rather than to avoid a bit of drizzle.
As for the'under-21's policy' - we weren't really after a new local, just shelter from the storm. It is exactly that sort of unhelpful, 'computer-says-no' attitude that I was berating.

Some of the staff were being helpful, but then you could call things like offering shelter basic common decency- a given, rather than something special.

It is all by-the-by now, anyway, though I can't see how you can go a site such like this and criticise 'unfair comments' - the site is full of moaning about watery beer, dodgy clientele, rude service -it is a positive whinger's paradise.

But if you want impartial views I'm sure there are official guides to these places -personally I would rather hear about real people's experiences, whether I agreed with their views or not.
I myself think ' a fantastic selection of beer and wine' as you describe, would include a Guinness, which you seem to be able to get everywhere else in Sutton, but that is just my view, we'll have to agree to differ.

MATTYR - 4 May 2005 18:58
Ha Percypidgeon ever thought of moving to Dublin or New York?, I have lunch in All Bar One Sutton a couple of days a week, and half the place is non smoking all through lunch a whooping great sign says so(which I guess is when they serve most food, seeing as they are strictly speaking a bar, hance the name), granted this has only been the case for the last few months, and have visited the place many evenings when as a (sorry!) SMOKER (we do have rights), the ashtrays are changed usually before I have finished a cigarette.

I dont mean to be a mediator but as mentioned by anon. in the last message, some people's comments really are not fair with regards to the grading of this bar, I happened upon this site and decided to post a comment as i have been using this bar for going on three years now and have seen it go from strength to strength, it stocks fantastic beers, the food is always fresh and the staff could'nt do enough for you, plus it attracts the better class of women in Sutton, which is always a bonus.

Percy should sit in the park at lunchtime, as I am sure at least a couple of the people at his afternoon bash smoked...............

or wait till the weathers better and sit outside..... with the rest of the pigeons, keep an eye out for me when i light one up.........

Marlboro Rocks with a nice Pint of Paulaner

In response to the man who complained about not being allowed in to the bar when it was raining maybe he should note the over 21's policy that All Bar One is clearly associated with. Not having a children's license means that a bar cannot take children, empty or not. Thw weather is not the fault of the bar staff. It sounds to me that the staff were trying their best to help you in the circumstances and perhaps next time he rates an All Bar One he should do so without his family in tow. I regularly drink in this bar and find the staff to be friendly and accomodating. The food is on the better side of average and it has a fantastic selection of beer and wine. It is no longer as overpriced as it used to be and I would recommend it both for a quiet week day drink and on a busier weekend evening.
anonymous - 10 Apr 2005 13:16
I went in lastFriday , 25thFeb, for an afternoon bash, only to discover that this has now become almosta smokers only place. There are four tables tucked in one corner. The kitcen staff had taken the best two still in their overalls, the other one is about 5feeet high with bar stools so you cant eat properly the next one is by the toilets!I don't know what has happened here but if you dont like dirty ashtrays all overthe place and dont like eating in a smog, dont go in there it is really disgusting place to eat
Percypidgeon - 28 Feb 2005 11:03
fantastic offer of free beer, I go here nearly every night after work and for the last few weeks at 6 o'clock they have given out free samples and food, shame as they have stopped now and are pushing there xmas offer.

Very friendly staff and a safe and comfortable bar in the battleground known as sutton.
peter langdon - 18 Nov 2004 00:55
this particular branch of all bar one has a nasty tendency to be full of lager louts (like much of sutton town centre)
anonymous - 31 Aug 2004 13:51
I recently got stuck outside this pub in a torrential downpour with my wife,mum-in-law and baby daughter,( who was in her pram, asleep). I asked if it was possible to come in to shelter, (maybe get a bite to eat..). Being a tuesday afternoon, bar a couple in the corner the place was empty. I was told no, it was against their policy. Fair enough. As the downpour turned to a thunderstorm, one of the staff came outside and asked if we wanted to be served at one of the tables outside. It was only possible to dine outside if you were some sort of amphibian. They then decided we could come in, only for a different member of staff to tell us,(after we had ordered, and paid for, drinks),we had to get out. Never drink in this craphole much anyway - the IKEA furnishings give it the atmosphere of a hotel lobby, the menu is pretentious dross and everything is ridiculously overpriced. After this experience, I'll have hot pins in my eyes before I ever go back to this soulless hell-hole.
MATTHEW - 10 Aug 2004 10:18
Very poor selection of beer and vinegary red wines. Food is overpriced and pretentious. No atmosphere!
Steve - 16 Jun 2004 10:24
Rubbish food; rubbish service; no atmosphere; no beer (all poncey lagers); smokers allowed to smoke anywhere, without management control
Rod - 25 Mar 2004 11:32
As long as you don't mind paying a bit of money, its a great place to go. Theres no groups of rowdy people, the musics cool and mellow and the refurbishments are comfy. Your missing out if you're just gonna 2 the usual places, like moon on the hill.
Ann - 23 Oct 2003 18:13
The re-furb has broken the school hall feel to it. But those sofas still seem to be a conversation stopper.
anonymous - 25 Sep 2003 10:40
ABO Sutton was one of the first launched from this now prolific chain. It was ground-breaking back then, it isn;t now. A recent re-furb has mellowed the place somewhat. Used to suffer from being too busy, now not as bad. Still not the sort of place you'd want to be a regular at though. Occasional visit only and it's okay.
Steve - 22 Aug 2003 16:17
Warning: Watch your bag/purse when you go in here its likely to get pinched and the Management couldn't five a flying ****. Haven't been back there since I had by purse stolen and the Management couldn't care less. Too clicky and full of groups of lads all on the pull - worse AB1 I have ever been in.
Anon - 4 Jul 2003 15:49
Why have they stopped doing guiness in all bar ones? I'll answer my own question - because all bar ones are pubs for birds
matt - 30 May 2003 16:18
I must pick up on that aswell actually, the bouncers are so genuinely nice unlike litten tree, legends and the like. Great place but because no music dont want to stay the whole night, great to start off in as so cheap and great bunch of people in here, plus there is always somewhere to sit down, small seating area outside too
Luke - 11 May 2003 11:09
By far the best place in Sutton. Comfy sofa's, good beer, excellent staff and none of the usual muppets that seem to populate sutton in the evenings.(unlike most other places in the area). Even the bouncers are polite.
