user reviews of White Horse, Emmer Green

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I use this pub about once a month (combined with a viisit to The Black Horse across the road) and it is usually pretty good. Often very busy especially at weekends and "after work". Food is serves at most times - it is standard pub grub from the Greene King menu but is well-priced. They often have a guest beer (Titanic; Everards have been seen recently) as well as the GK range - which sometimes includes IPA Gold or Golden Speckled Hen. I'm not sure where a previous reviewer saw a snooker table as (a) there is no room for one and (b) he probably meant a pool table - which I can never remember one being there. Good outside drinkers/smokers patio; Tv for sport and good bar staff - you don't often have to wait long to get served. Although this is a major brewer's pub it is not a bad boozer and the addition of a guest ale will always encourage me to have a look in.

Really friendly manager and food was okay. However, I cannot drink Greene King rubbish beers, so pub really needs some decent guest beers or ciders.

This is at the cheap and cheerful end of the pub chain foodhouse spectrum. Very popular, and hard to get a seat in the evening. Lots of noise, two tvs, and a snooker table. Serves Greene King beer, which is kept okay. Big decking area outside for smokers/families.

Has a friendly manager who runs a good quality pub quiz on a Thursday.

Would agree with the first three sentences of Gristy's review below, sums the place up well.

Usually has three ales (GK IPA, Abbot and Ruddles since you ask), served fairly well.

A good bet for the footer but avoid on certain evenings when the karaoke is in full swing and wekends when the punters are younger, lairy and shouty.

Points for the book exchange and the fishtank.

Not a bad place, but not really worth a special trip.

Uninspring Greene King food-house, lots of small areas up and down steps, all very random. Loud shouty clientele, big screens everywhere. Huge outdoor decking area at the front of the pub - bet the locals love that late of a night. Complete contrast to the Black Horse across the road, but yet similar in a lot of ways.Just as unappealing.
I know the comment about being a bland gastro-pub was made two years ago, but it's more Hungry Horse than it could ever be described as a gastropub...

Popped in here the other week as I was visiting friends around the corner. Really friendly barman who was slowly getting his way around the till but explained that he was new and a little slow - but got the round of six drinks perfect every time. Decking outside looked inviting if it wasn't for the downpour. Inside was very pleasant and the landlady seems to be running the pub very well.

Typical Greene King ales and the odd promotion on spirits. A tad expensive but was more than happy to stay longer than I had originally planned. Food was very good and actually quite reasonable - we had planned to go to a restaurant but were enjoying the pub too much!

Only problem was that the gents toilet was a little in disrepair, a problem that the landlady and barman apologised for. I guess that it will be fixed up soon.

I was told that there is a quiz night and a poker night during the week. I will definitely visit my friends more often now that I know they have a decent little pub on the doorstep!

Cheers!

Tables Dirty, and a very smokey pub, even in the non-smoking area. Food is reasonable out of a packet stuff and is cheap, certainly not a Gastro pub as mentioned before. Can't hear yourself think sometimes as normally 4 TV's on each on a different channel and music playing as well. Not really recommended if you fancy a pint try the Blackhorse over the road

Lost a lot of character of the last 5 years or so. Now more of a family restaurant that a proper pub, nothing either going for it or against it. Another bland gastro pub.

Visited but didnt spend much time there as the bar was too smokey and loud. Couldnt hold a decent conversation and had to shout to be heard.
Nothing special about bar menu, so we didnt eat there.

Good busy local if you fancy a more quiet evening but does get hectic on a friday and saturday night. Bar staff from all round the world and very friendly. Nice fishtank in the corner and good to watch football on projector. Could do with lowering drinks prices a tad though.
