First visit here yesterday for lunch. A range of 6 cask ales were available, a Lancaster and a Beartown were sampled and found to be in good condition. Food was good, but as has been mentioned previously everything we ordered arrived on wooden boards, which does cause some degree of fall out onto the table.

Nice decor, recently refurb'd. Ferociously expensive bar, but a fine selection of wines nonetheless. A very average meal. A 'whole' Brie starter with Celery and dips etc 'to share' was disappointingly small for two people. Nonetheless, it was tasty for what it was. We had a simple burger, with chips etc. I'm afraid the meat was exceptionally dry. it was lean meat (steak) but far too lean to be used as a Burger base and fell to bits quite quickly. Main was served on a 'wooden' platter. Extremely messy, with bits of meal falling off all over the place (and I am not a messy eater and used to 'fine dining' establishments)! Proper plates a much more sensible idea. I can't unfairly criticise - it looked 'good on the wood' but wasn't practical in any way. We didn't have pudding but were not 'full' in any sense of the word! Overall, a generally expensive disappointment which appears overpriced given location and quality.. Make no mistake, this establishment is expensive, but does not live upto the promise.

The good news is that it has re-opened under the management of the same people that own the Pheasant at Higher Burwardsley. The emphasis is as a gastropub and place to stay. The good quality of the food is matched by the exemplary standard of service. This is a professional outfit, but not so sharp that you would feel out of place if you just came for a drink. Good range of cask ales.

Has a couple of real ales always available. Good food with a restauranty section.
Nice sitting outside during summer, although it's quite popular with wasps
