Beer OK, they had 3 ales on, of which I had a pint of Young's. Food wasOK but portions were a little on the small side. Service was OK.

Friendly staff and pretty well-kept ales. Found the whole 'sports pub' aspect a bit annoying - but then I don't "do" sport I suppose. All-in-all, not too bad a place if you're in town.

Blimey, what's happened?

Have been in a few times in recent years and would normally be my spot for taking someone out for a pub lunch. Got there today and something must have happened in the bar area because there's a big machine with a fan (?dehumidifier?) which was quite noisy. The bar area is looking quite tired now, after the excellent refurb of a few years ago.

There's a good set of veggie choices on the menu but with the exception of a pasta dish they were all off. We drunk up and went somewhere much better (though the BITE ratings wouldn't tell you this).

I didnt think this was going to be any good from afar but glad I made the effort to get there. It offers a bit of everything really, theres B&B accommodation (75/95 for single/double inc breakfast), a restaurant and a drinkers bar at the front with Sky Sports. The menu covers bar snacks to full meals. Ales are Eagle IPA, Bombardier and a changing guest which was Brains Merlins Oak on my visit - Idseen this in a few places locally. Service was excellent, the place seems well run and I got the impression they often try new ideas to improve their offering. Despite the small drinkers bar in relation to the restaurant area this is a pub that Id recommend.

Spent a very enjoyable Saturday evening here, the meal was wonderfully cooked and of superior quality to others in Harpenden, the restaurant intimate and the staff friendly and accomodating. I would recommend The Silver Cup to anyone looking for a 'proper' meal, not just a mass produced chain menu or an over priced 'locally sourced' cop out. A refreshing change!

I'd heard good things about this place but hadn't been until last night and I thought it was excellent. Sat in the bar which is a bit tight but clean and like a proper pub. The food was really good, there were four of us and we were all well pleased with dinner. The bill, with a couple of rounds of drinks, came to just over 70. You could get away cheaper elsewhere but given the quality it's more than reasonable.

Overpriced for what it is. The food, in particular, is very pricy for a basic menu. Staff are always friendly though

Now a beefeater clone with beers such as green king ipa. When my freinds suggest going there I suggest proper pubs.

Like a lot of pubs in Harpenden, this good quality local boozer has tried to turn itself into a gastro pub with mixed results.

Food very overpriced for what is basically pub grub. You're looking at 40 - 50 per head for a pub dinner.

Good selection of beers, but they don't wash the glasses very well, as the bitter often tastes of detergents ! Nice !!

The staff are always friendly and welcoming though.

We went for a walk around Harpenden and popped into the pub on the off chance, expecting a quick snack and a pint, but the landlord was so welcoming and friendly that we ended up staying for some proper food. the food was excellent, and the beer was really well kept.

It's a bit posher than your smoky smelly old-fashioned English pub, but it has a lovely atmosphere, and was full of friendly people. We would have stayed longer but had to get home. Looking forward to going back.

This pub used to be great with an eating bit one side and the pool table and a bar the other with a rather pissed up Landlord who was cool. Went in last weekend and it was awful. The pool table has gone and the pub has been tidied up beyond belief. No longer a proper boozer and no longer somewhere enjoyable to go - it was full of Aussies and Kiwis who thought they owned the place!

Used to be really rundown but, following a recent refit, is now quite pleasant - and sells good beer. Harpenden has been on the slide recently pubwise, so nice to rediscover the Cup.

Ate here recently and really enjoyed it. Not the cheapest of places but still relative value for money given the quality of the food. Has a decent range beer too, Pedigree was in top condition.

Didn't go into the separate bar area so can't comment on how it rates as an ordinary boozer but would definitely recommend it for dinner and beer.
