please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This is a great little local pub. I have used the Royal Oak several times this year mainly to watch the football but I took my wife up there last week for a meal and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and friendly service, especially at such low prices.

They always have really well kept ales on, and have the new IPA font, which the manager discussed with me in great detail one evening.

All in all cant fault the place.

Football team dropped in for our pre-xmas drink at 9.30 on 21st Dec and in spite of there being only 12 other people in the pub we managed to witness 3 brawls! Shame but needs a sort out again. Young bar man was pleasant

This pub was really good at one piont, after the re-furb about a year or two ago when the preasant landlord took over, things look up, new beers, new menu, decent ideas. but i have to say things have gone down hill! The Beer if on, taste like vinegar, food and service is poor! The Landlord is a very aggressive and rude man indeed! OMG, he needs some help and lessons in politeness and manners, the pub is owned by greene king and with the servce i received, i think will be writing an email to them about his and the staff manner!

Real shame - remember it being half decent at one point. Now I'd stay well clear. The management must be totally clueless and running the place into the ground. The food sucks and the service isn't great from a few of the ruder members of staff! (You probably all know the guy I'm referring to)

Re: The salad, I caught that conversation. The staff member said, and I quote "You can't expect us to check the lettuce is clean. It's normally ok" followed by "You're just being frivolous. You're not having the number."

I'd wait until environmental health have checked the place out - there's no way some of that food is fresh, and evidentally they don't care if it's clean either. On that note, it's likely you'll find rubbish on teh tables when you arrive. Seems they aren't too fussy about cleaning in a hurry either.

I have had the missfortune of visiting this pub today and i have to say i would never recommend it to anyone, Having ordered a salad thinking not too much could go wrong with a salad right? how wrong was I! Firstly i was undercharged for 2 childrens meals and the came out to ask for the the extra money, not sure why i should pay for thier mistakes but paid anyway. They dont put up a childrens price you have to ask so i didnt know they had made a mistake.

When my salad finally arrived on first glance it looked ok, one bite in however the croutons tasted like something dragged from the back of the store cupboard and mixed up with the cardboad box they came in, but carried on anyway, figuring i wouldnt make a issue of that. The chiken in the salad wasnt freshly cooked it had obviously been stored quite possibly all day or a couple of days. Sadly i had almost finished eating this when i noticed that there was mud on the lettuce, this time i thought it time to send it back......... I have never come accross such a rude and obnoxious man in my life, i was told i was complaining for the sake of it and did i actually wash all my salad leaves at home?! (erm yes!) I then asked for the pubs chain head office address and was told i couldnt have it as it was a stupid complaint!! This is one place i will not be visiting again and i will make sure i tell as many people as possible to avoid it at all costs!

I think all the posative comments must be his friends as theres no way it deserves the rating it has! gets a big fat 0 from me.

Not recommended, and I won't be going back. I had been before a year or so back and decent fresh food was served. I guess a lot has changed though - the food was awful. It was clearly pre-frozen and reheated, bland and flavourless, and quite frankly something I could make at home for under 1 with better results. Quite simply, look elsewhere. You won't find much worse.

There is no kid's entertainment either, and service isn't that fast, so be prepared for bored kids if you do get unlucky and wind up there

The service is a little mixed - If you wind up with one guy in particular, you'll notice he's in a foul mood and talks to the customers like something he scraped off his shoe. If you're not happy there, leave - no need to piss the customers off ya knob.

I would not recommend this pub to anyone. The location is good, the vilage of Yateley very picturesque and the beer and the other facilities good. My concern is the aggressive and unfriedly manner of the landlord, almost a caricature he is so extreme.

I visited with my son and was made to feel very unwelcome such that we walked to the White Lion which is just down the street, with better beer, more convivial surroundings a good selection of food and friendley staff,

Modernised one large bar pub frequented by a young crowd. Sky sports, Pool, no decent real ales. Get the picture?
steviec1211 - 14 Mar 2007 22:09
Good pub purely for the Sky Sports on a big screen. Nothing else really grabs my attention.
