A definite downgrade on this visit - only one Shepherd Neame brew on so went for the keg Yardsman Stout which was kind of ok but disappointing . Not the quality ale venue it was.

Authentic Belfast pub with lovely old tiling and classic furnishings, very busy on my visit and a lively atmosphere i might add. A couple of cask ales were on, sadly they were from Shepherd Neame, so your humble narrator opted for the Guinness and it was well worth it.

Belfast is certainly a city worth visiting, the ale scene does require significant improvement though.

Only Hilden No.4 on draught but in excellent condition. Still the best pub in Ireland for proper ale.

Easily the best option in Belfast for ale drinkers although the range is by no means extensive.

Great pub with an impressive selection of beers.

A great music pub with a good range of eclectic european draught beers, Bitburger, Erdinger, Hoegaarden, and Grolsch plus a couple of very well kept ales usually from Hilden. A few more mainstream kegs from Carlsberg, Harp, Guinness and Caffreys, there are also a few interesting bottles in the well stocked fridge. Traditional victorian styled interior with dark wood, tiles, bareboards, a splendid marble topped bar counter with a proper brass foot rail. Art work from local artists and a range of pump clips complete the picture. Obviously it gets very busy when there's live music, that's six nights a week. I concur with most reveiwers the best pub I visited in Belfast.

Just returned from a weekend in Belfast. This is an excellent pub, a good blend of the Irish and English. Good atmosphere, efficient service and excellent Hilden's beer. What more could you want?

This is the best pub in Ireland for proper beer. The Hilden Ale and Stout were both excellent. It's clean tidy, well run and has the look of one of those old fashioned gin palaces inside. If you like real ale this place has to be a must.

If I had to choose the best Belfast pub we visited this weekend, I think I'd plump for this one. Although to be honest, it was the best of a bad bunch. On a Friday evening, getting in here was hard enough. Getting served was extremely difficult and finding a seat was nigh on impossible. The popularity was undoubtedly because they had a live jazz band on. They have 2 real ales on handpull - Hilden's Ale and Weavers Golden Blonde Ale. They also have Aspall's cider on tap. There's a strange mix of people in here - both young and old. We met somebody with similar interests to ours. They too were trying to get around as many pubs as possible in Britain! Very handy if you're staying overnight in the Cathedral Quarter as we were.

One of the best bars in Ireland. No bullshit. Good stout. Could meet anyone in here, quite an eclectic crowd.

An unremarkable exterior but I highly recommend a visit. During the day its a place that prompts quiet contemplation and I wrote about a dozen pub reviews here over a couple of pints. Check out the small room to the right and have a look at the literary displays, some by the eponymous Belfast poet. There was an art exhibition on when I was there and they also have music and poetry readings. I heard it is owned and staffed by the Belfast Unemployment Office next door, not sure how true that is but it would certainly fit with Hewitts socialist ideals.

Its also one of the few pubs in Belfast where I found real ale. There were two pumps, one with Hilden Ale and the other a nice Plain Stout from Dublins Maguire brewery. They also have an impressive bottled range and I spotted Sierra Nevada, St. Peters, Innis & Gunn and Fransiskaner. If I had to choose just one Belfast bar to spend an afternoon in it would be this one.

Very pleasant small bar, close to Catherdrals. Friendlier than some reviews elsewhere suggest. Beer local but average.

Very nice little bar, Two local real ales on hand pub, more in bottles. Menu looked good. Nice staff, nice atmosphere will be back when next in Belfast.

Definitely the best pub we found on my one and only visit to Belfast last Friday - a very nice pint, efficient service, punters friendly and excellent live jazz. Hard to fault really - I will definitely go back there next time I am in town.

Very popular city bar, live music most nights, excellent lunchtime food. One of the few real ale outlets in Belfast, always an interesting guest on and decent range of beers from around the world.

One of Belfast's best pubs, down to earth, pleasant, good original artwork on display. Highly recommended for lunchtime food, brilliant value and usually good local fayre on the menu. Great on Friday nights for the live jazz. My only (small) gripe is the smokly atmosphere when serving food...it's not segregated which makes lunchtime a smoky affair if you get the worng table.
Brilliant pub though.

A new pub, built buy the Unemployment resource centre. Plays live music at the weekends irish trad and jazz plus a venue for culture festivals sometimes. Also displays work by local artists PLUS they serve good beer and is in a cool part of the city (the Cathedral quarter). For a new pub it aint arf bad :-)
