Two handpumps on the bar but neither seemed used, so we went elsewhere.

no wonder so many pubs are closing. Abysmal.

I used the Crown after work until a couple of years ago when it seemed to lose it's easy going atmosphere. Called in again in the run up to Christmas and was pleasantly surprised to find it better than ever. Although the drink menu is not extensive, what was on offer was fine. The biggest change is the return of of the laid back friendly atmosphere. Apparently re-opened under new management, the staff were welcoming and pleasant. My first visit back was a Friday tea-time. An older guy has been brought in to present afternoon/ early evening karaoke, he too had the cheerful bug and was quite funny at times and played decent music from years gone bye at a level conversation was not spoiled. The ceiling to floor windows give a continental feel to the place that really works. I and my wife have been in several times since. Here's hoping standards do not slip again.

We were looking for a post-gig pint after watching Franz Ferdinand at the Apollo.
Quite shocked at the number of pubs that had shut at the traditional 10.45

We ended up in the Crown and considering there was quite a gang of us we were made very welcome (especially given we'd already had a few drinks earlier on and were still in concert mode)

Not somewhere I'd go for a full night out and the beer selection was quite narrow but other than that it was fine and I can see the attraction of a couple of afternoon pints, particularly given its proximity to the tram stop

A good place for people-watching, as it's pretty busy, with a dancefloor, and a good mix of clientel. Loud but reasonable music, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

This pub has changed several times over the years, it was a piano bar for a while. It's now an open airy bar with huge windows rather than a proper pub. Has a couple of handpumps but only Deuchars was on. It was OK. The other half had a glass of wine that she enjoyed. She also liked the huge windows as we sat on the high stools very close to one. She can then pursue her favourite hobby of people watching. We usually call in on a Saturday afternoon/early evening so the loud music hasn't started then and it's quite peaceful.

Not a pub, more of a bar, with late licence, banging music and the works. There are real ales though, albeit nothing out of the ordinary.
