A good sized and pleasant pub, handily located for Clifton Down station, but suitably tucked away from the hordes on Whiteladies Road.
As others have said, the bar billiards is an interesting feature and there are a number of prints on the wall with old programmes from other local theatres which ties in with its own theatre upstairs. Dont expect something like youve got at the Tobacco Factory though this one is rather cosy, shall we say!
The pub itself is a good size with the bar being an oval shape in the centre of the pub so you can walk all round it, and theoretically get served from any point if theyve got enough staff on. Theres suitably old wooden flooring at the front, and a carpeted area at the rear.
Food seems popular, and although we didnt eat on this occasion, we did a year or so ago and it was pleasant enough as I recall.
Beers on this occasion were Doom Bar, Otter Ale and Courage Best. Ciders were Addlestones (although this was off) and Olde English (plus Gaymers Pear, if you count that as a cider).

A pub which is worth seeking out, even if only for the bar billiards table. I confess I can't fathom out what beers are actually on - there is a blackboard which bears a vague resemblance to what is visible at the bar - but having numerous clips on the same handle can't help, can it? Or am I missing something?

The menu does look good, but on each of the two occasions we have arrived hungry (during advertised times), it has been mysteriously unavailable.

It has a theatre upstairs - I like that.

Great character pub with upstairs theatre. Decent selection of real ale, but quality variable. Very good food and wine selection. Can get overrun by students.
