A brisk stroll through town from the train station & you reach this large multi level Wetherspoons. Apparently the building used to be a charity school and it became a 'spoons in 2001.

2 banks of 5 hand pumps with a total of 9 different ales on. I used my camra discount voucher and got a pint of Kelham Island Brewery Kelham Best @ 3.8% for £1.49. A good ale well kept and poured. My other pint was Elland Brewery Elland Bitter @ 3.8%, another good pint.

1pm when I arrive here and it's not that busy, a surprise considering how busy the half a dozen pubs I passed on my way here were & also with Rotherham United being at home.

Food popular as it normally is in 'spoons pubs. Plenty of staff serving behind the bar, with equally as many serving food and more importantly clearing tables.

A nice clean pub, quick and friendly service and a good choice of ales, worthy of a visit and a place in the GBG.

AT THIS TIME OF YEAR , ONE WOULD EXPECT THE HEATING TO BE ON IN ANY BAR, NOT THIS ONE!. COLD AIR
COME,S THROUGH THE circulation SYSTEM. WHEN YOU ASK THE STAFF ABOUT THIS, THEY SAY, WHY ? ARE YOU COLD ?. SOME OF THE STAFF WILL TELL YOU, THAT IT IS VERY WARM BEHIND THE BAR, AND FOR THIS REASON THEY PREFER THE HEATING OFF.

WHAT ABOUT THE CUSTOMER?

Having ventured into the Rhinoceros I moved on to here. Having visited before I knew that this is one of the better Wetherspoons where the staff seem to be fairly well clued up.

Surprise, surprise, the Real Ale was served at a more ambient temperature and in decent condition, therefore much more acceptable. The only disappointment was that I thought the beers on offer were not as interesting however this obviously depends on personal taste and the beer rota for the festival.

Otherwise a clean and safe feeling drinking establishment.

Nice-looking Spoons, adventurous beer policy but average quality, understaffed on my visit.

agree with everything thats been said already.
standard wetherspoon menu also available.

I also read in the wetherspoon magazine that the manager and staff spend time at local breweries, learning how to handle cask ales properly.
commendable practice indeed.
they have also had the opportunity to produce their own ale at one of the breweries, which was on sale in the bar.

Excellent watering hole with excellent range of beers. Beers are well looked after. Great Jazz club on Mondays. Furniture needs a makeover - getting tatty. One of the best Wetherspoons in the country.

Some wetherspoons pubs can be ropey at best, and the rhinpoceros (Rhinos) in Rotherham is one of them...but if you are after a reasonable pub, with a good choice of well priced ales, and have a liking for this chain, then give this pub a visit.
Beer well kept, Food is okay, and you do not feel like you have to continually watch your back.
God pub in a nice setting
